POD DESIGN

SERENE

POD DESIGN

A pod designed to relax and de-stress under a dome of calm and soothing environment that provides a break

Concept

Brief

To choose an object of choice and incorporate the abstract idea into a pod design for the students within the campus. To be used by two students at a time to experience something out of the usual circumstances.

Object

The object chosen was a pen and the multiple layers within the was taken as an inspiration to create a design for the pod.

Concentric circles symbolize wholeness, timelesness and most importantle peace and scerinity which was the main intent of this design

It is the core of attention, with its unique form compared to the other buildings and entitiees around.

The concentric circles takes the users on a journey, disconnecting them from the stress in the outside world.

A dome makes people feel secure and comfortable and is said to have a positive effect on mental health.

Circle gives us a sight that it is present everywhere in the natural world unlike the usual geometric shaps.

MALL DESIGN

AURORA MALL

MALL

A mall is an interplay of formal and informal spaces which encourages various possible activities to satisfy both the needs and wants of its visitors. Malls have been developed from the ancient local “Sandhai” which was merely a market. This local market was then taken into a building, which then had other amenities added to it and over time, mall has now evrything that we could imagine of. In the recent years, malls have had quite similar properties without any major differences. Also, with the growing concern of global environmental conditions, this design questions the basic perception of mall being a closed air conditioned box. With the climatic conditions of this city, air conditioner is a must in a long run, but it can be used only in necessary spaces to reduce its negative impact.

PLOT COVERAGE

Offset layer of floor for easy view into the attrium and clear view of other floors

Open in alternate floors in the rear side

Transition from centre to parts. Thid design also provides a life-world connection betwwen the built environment and the open environment

APARTMENT DESIGN

ELANTRA HEIGHTS

APARTMENT

Keeping in mind the scenario of work from home, especially in the IT sector even after COVID and to evoke the sense of social interaction between the neighbours, this apartment is designed with more open spaces that also breakes the stereotype that private balcony is a luxury and highlights that it is more of a need. it is also designed keeping in mind that the site is located in a low lying area in Porur.

More open spaces and environmental connection.

Private terrace for each house wihich also encourages green spaces- growing plants

Study rooms are located these terraces and some units even open to them directly

The site is a low lying area and is clos to Porur lake, so a part of the site is raised to 3 meters and first basement is provided on the ground to reduce the impact of flooding during monsoon

Alternate balconies to have a connect with the neighbours and also a 180 degree view around the house.

Including the work from home situation in the design and creating a life-world connection to escape from claustrophobic four walls.

Allows more light to pass through and allows natural light from three sides of a unit

psychological connection between the neighbours

A gallery in the lowest point of the site that also acts as a step well during monsoon

Natural and cross ventilation allowing wind to pass through on three sides

No wall sharing between each housing units to allow more breathable spaces that caters natural light and ventilation.

Site Area: 2.9 Acres (11735.88 sq m)
