Future Prep 101: How to Prepare Teens for Design Careers™ is a half-day seminar which exposes teens and their parents to multiple disciplines, including: architecture, interiors, graphic and environmental design, landscape architecture, fashion and sneaker design, automotive design, and industrial design. The goal is to encourage and assist in the development of the next generation of leaders and collaborative creative problem solvers. The seminar explains the design process, what tools designers use, and exactly what designers do for their communities.

Students learn how to select a design program at the college/university level, and discover preparatory steps they can take while in high school.

Future Prep 101 ™ creates an environment of participation by meeting students (and parents) where they are in terms of design knowledge, while posing questions about how they plan to use their ingenuity in the future. To attend, a student also must engage their parent(s), teacher(s), and/or guidance counselor. Teens who complete the workshop depart with an understanding that design impacts every moment of our lives, from signage and way finding, to architecture, the landscape of parks, everyday products we need and use, such as smart phones, etc.

Future Prep 101 ™ travels to various communities, currently covering cities and towns in Connecticut and Massachusetts. Enclosed in this booklet you will see the success of our first two seasons. Future Prep 101 ™ engages students with critcial thinking exercises and encourages collaboration. The program meets them where they are in terms of design knowledge, but also poses questions about how they will use their ingenuity in the future.

about aisha densmore-bey Future Prep 101™ was founded, and is administered, by Aisha Densmore-Bey, Designer. Aisha Densmore-Bey is trained as an architect and is an alumna of the Design and Architecture Senior High School in Miami, Florida. From these experiences, she has firsthand knowledge of what is required to prepare teens desiring to enter the design field.

Aisha has been a Master Teacher with Learning By Design Massachusetts since 2011, taught about public art and public space with the Mayors Summer Youth Employment program of the City of Cambridge, MA and the Cambridge Arts Council, and served as an instructor at the Boston Architectural College, specifically responsible for first year students.

Aisha Densmore-Bey, Designer is a participant in Design Ignites Change, an organization whose mantra is “Creativity holds enormous power to spark positive social change.” In 2012 the American Institute of Architects (AIA) recognized Aisha for her ‘highest qualities of leadership’, noting her excellence at outreach and her contribution to the profession of architecture with their 2012 AIA Associates award.

Aisha Densmore-Bey is owner and principal of a multi-disciplinary design practice that encompasses architecture, interiors, lighting design, graphic design, film, and art. Aisha wrote, produced, and directed an architectural film short titled The Built Perception: Boston. Aisha has been featured in Architect Magazine, ArchDaily, Design Bureau, Apartment Therapy, and the Lifework Blog of iconic furniture company, Herman Miller.
