The Dinosaur museum was awesome. We had so much fun! We could dig for fossils and make imprint fossils. We also saw a real meteorite (a small one). It was amazing to see the huge Iguanodon Skeletons in the glass cages.

During Dino Activity Day we had to get the chocolate chips out of the cookies like a real paleontologist and we could eat them.

building bridges

The bridge project was a lot of fun, because we were working with our friends and the teachers were helping us.

The sleepover was amazing, because we watched a very good movie before going to bed. And Mrs Kovach read us a bedtime story: Worst Babies Belly Button.

We built bridges with popsicle sticks and glue. The glue sticking to your hands was not so nice.

Everytime we see a bridge now, we realise it is more than just a plank with a support and we think about the type of bridge it is? Is it an arch bridge, a pigtail or a suspended bridge?

We could write our own weather forecast and present it in front of a blue screen. John ended up bodyless, because he was wearing blue. ;-)

We had to solve a mystery. Somebody stole a painting from a museum and we had to find out who did it and how it happened.

Biking on a tightrope is pretty scary, especially when we had to bike backwards.

Technopolis was fun because we were allowed to explore by ourselves.

We may have our occasional disputes at home and I may seem like an annoying big brother, but I see it more as tough love. To My Friends: Walker: Do you like to walk? Haha, it’s been an amazing 10 years with you. You are the reason that I play basketball and without you I don’t think that I (we) would be the players that we are today. The first few ski trips we had were the best one, but they started to become boring when we began to bring Noah along… ;) (only kidding Noah). But yeah… there are just too many memories and too little space.

Patrick: Son, we’ve been homies since 4th grade. Remember back in the day when soccer was our favorite sport? Yeah, me neither… I think that playing basketball together has made our friendship even better to the extent that we spent Christmas in Brazil together, which was one of the best trips of my life. Our endless XBOX and Skype sessions will never be forgotten…

But Man, I Am Hungry As S*!t Right Now… Roos: Roosje, you are the true definition of a best friend. No matter what, I know that I can trust you in any situation and your advice, although harsh at times, always ends up helping me out. Yes, we’ve had our fair share of arguments, but we always find a way to sort things out. I will cherish all of the memories we’ve had at NECIS, in Kenya, Italy, Poland, at parties etc… and hopefully there are many more memories to come. Your stupid comments in Chemistry and your inability to speak English properly really tones down your tough guy attitude :) Your basketball skills have improved slightly over the past few years but your free styling hasn’t. Just kidding! Keep in touch so we can start our business together ASAP! Shail&Bhavik&Aadesh: WASSSUP CHODU’s!!! Y’all three are my main Indians. You have taught me the ways of your people.

Russell Peters, Kevin Hart, basketball, eating, all nighters watching NBA at Big B’s house, movies etc… it has all been absolutely fantabulous and the tepla…THE TEPLA (btw recipe please). Some of the jokes that have been told over the years have sparked some controversy for being borderline racist but s’all good. The intense arguing between the three of you has been the source of my splendid Indian accent and I thank you for that. I will cherish all of the other memories that we have had and I really hope that we keep in touch, because my Indian accent isn’t going to maintain itself.

Karolis: Honey…It’s been a great couple of years with all the parties and the basketball. We have grown as friends at an exponential rate. Your sometimes strange humor and funny accent both contribute to the funny guy you are. You better keep in touch when you go to university babe!

Noah: I don’t even know where to start. So I won’t.

Shveni: So…We’ve been at AIS since first grade, pretty cool huh? It’s been an amazing many years and even though we didn’t talk much in elementary and middle school, we still share some cool/weird memories such as the fact that our writing folders were the same color for five straight years. Anyway, I’ll keep this short and say that I have enjoyed our times in history and wish you all the best in the future.

Appa, you’ve been a strong influence both psychologically and emotionally. You’ve taught me to remain strong and patient when everything is falling apart. I will always look up to you and you will always been my biggest inspiration to do better in life.

Atulya, my dearest brother, you little cutie pie! I’m really going to miss our little fights and races to finish the last cookies in the box. Pierce: We only became good friends end of 10th grade, but still we have many memories. One of them being you saving me at lof that one night, I can’t thank you enough bro. I think the only thing I can say about my family is that it is impossible to overestimate the amount of support and love I receive from them on a daily basis. I am so lucky to have Parents who care so much about me and about my ambitions.

Kirsten you’re by far my favourite sister, no question. Not to mention you have a very nearly flawless musical taste and you watch all the right shows. Daniel, you are one of the coolest people I know. I’ve been influenced so heavily by your musical and cultural preferences, so I owe you more than I can express.

I’ll just start off by saying that I am forever going to be grateful to the class of 2014 for being the most kind, amazing, friendly, lovely group of people I have had the fortune to meet. I’ve been a student at 6 schools over my life, and there’s no class I’d rather be finishing this journey with than you guys. Not to mention the teachers, staff members, as well as students above and below my year level who have all made my time at AIS so unforgettable.

William: You’ve been as good of a friend over the past 3 years as anyone could ask for. You have a gift for creativity in both art and music, and I hope you always are able to do what you deserve. Honestly, your friendship has meant so much to me, and I know it will last for a long time from now.

Eddy: You keep me sane in half of my classes, and I don’t know how you will survive without me next year. From high school plays, to Cabaret, the Musical, and even extra curricular lampoonery, we’ve had some great times. Never forget London 2013.

Aashin: Our unlikely friendship has been one of the only constants over the past 3 years, and despite musical differences we always find something we can agree on. Along with Micaela the Dream Team bond will last forever.

Rowan: What can I say. Nasser. Pound it. I love you so hard forever. We’ve shared some great times over the past 3 years that will stay with me for a long time. You managed to transform the senior lounge into a club every break time with your beautiful voice and stunning dance moves. London 2013. Have a kipsaté for me mate.

Thomas: Your musical ability makes me want to be better, so thank you. Your piano playing and guitar improvisation is more beautiful than half of the music in the world today, but you must know that I will always steal your harmony. I hope you don’t forget me when you’re a famous musician, maybe we can do a proper collaborate then yeah?

Avkash: Even though you criticise my beautiful accent almost daily, we managed to survive IB physics together. It is pronounced ‘Data’, maybe a few years of university will help you to understand that.

Walker: You’re one of my oldest friends from AIS, and since 4th grade we’ve run this school. I think your good musical taste is refreshing compared to what the rest of our classmates consider to be music, so keep that up.

Pierce: Another one of my oldest friends, you will always have a place in my memory, a space in my heart, and a spare bed in my house when I get one.

Roos: We’ve come so far since mad minutes in 4th grade to getting caught looking out the window by Mr. Lech. Honestly you are the most motivated and just happy person I have met to this day. Stay awesome.

Emily: My math buddy. I’m going to miss the classes we get to spend together every week. You’ve been a great friend for as long as I’ve known you, so we definitely need to stay friends after we graduate.

Cedric: Since 4th grade you and I have shared some great times in Boys choir, in History class, and these usually involve a Fawlty Towers reference. Just don’t mention the War. To all the other people I haven’t mentioned, you are all great friends and AIS wouldn’t be the same without each one of you.

After ten wonderful years at AIS with great souvenirs and seeing a hundred faces come and go, it’s time for something new!

I just would like to thank all of my teachers. However, a massive thanks goes to Mrs. McKemy, my 3rd Grade teacher who is probably never going to read this, Mr. Neighbour, who has truly inspired me in history, and Mrs. Helness, who has always helped me and pushed me to my greatest potential. Last but not least, I would like to thank Mr.Todd and Ms. Chapman, for “their” sense of humour which is unique.

LA FAMILIA: Mama & Papa, waar moet ik nu hemelsnaam beginnen? Ik heb echt, maar echt alles aan jullie te danken. Als ik ooit problemen had of iets nodig had, waren jullie er altijd om mij te steunen door dik en dun.

Mama, ik weet dat ik niet altijd makkelijk voor je was en misschien soms koud en “onderbeleefd”, mais tu dois savoir que je t’aime beaucoup. Qu’aurais-je été sans toi? Sans toi je ne serais rien et je me rends compte chaque jour que je suis si fier d’avoir une maman pareille ! Al die keren dat we samen naar Klina of naar de dokter gingen toen ik klein was, al die nachten dat je naast me sliep toen ik ziek was (het waren echt hectische tijden als ik er nu aan terug denk) of het watermeloenincident in Salamanca waarvan ik beter de details niet vermeld. A part être la meilleure maman que l’on puisse imaginer, j’adorais toujours ton sens d’humour. Je n’oublierai jamais tes déclarations philosophiques, telles que “dat is” en “varken is varken”. Même pendant les moments difficiles, tu réussissais à me faire rire (de fameuze koffiekoe !..) Tu vas me manquer énormément!

Papa, waar moet ik met u beginnen! Ten eerste kan ik zeggen dat je het perfecte rolmodel voor me bent geweest en dat ik alles aan u heb te danken. Ik ben echt zeer dankbaar voor de manier hoe jij en mama ons hebben opgevoed en dat je ons het belang van talen en reizen hebt ingehamerd . Behalve om je papa te noemen, heb ik de eer om u mijn beste vriend te noemen omdat ik met u gewoon over alles over kan spreken (of dat het over voetbal gaat of over politiek) . Terwijl ik letterlijk een heel boek kan schrijven over al onze escapades en avonturen zoals de vijf trips naar Brazilië moet ik zeker al de verplaatsingen van onze teergeliefde club LIERSE hier vermelden. Eupen, Mons (tv debuut !), Brugge, Dour, Kortrijk, SintTruiden , Tubize, allemaal samen met u bezocht. En dan vergeet ik al de thuismatchen en die leuke avonden dat we Sherlock samen bekeken, of Coldplay live @ Stade de France.…… Zoals ik al gezegd heb, ik kan hier gewoon een heel boek over schrijven!

When I first heard that I was going to have to move in the middle of my IB, I was very reluctant to do so especially as this meant that I would have to live in another country than my parents and sister for a couple of months. But I am so happy that I came here! From the first day when I was shown around the school, it immediately felt like home and I could not have wished for a warmer welcome from all the people in my grade! Iâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;ve only been at AIS for a short time, but it feels like Iâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;ve been here longer and I know I will miss it dearly next year!

My mum and dad have always been there for me, no matter how far away they were. I have stressed them out a little bit by being so relaxed about deadlines and mock exams but they believed in me and knew that I would do well in the end. I want to thank you, mum and dad, for always being supportive, for motivating me whenever I was demotivated and for teaching me to always make the best out of everything. I love you and I could not have done this without you!

Frederique, you are such a sweet and lovely sister! I love all the crazy stuff we do and the fact that nothing can stop us from doing it, not even being a couple thousand kilometers apart! I never really know what to say for these things so I’m just going to describe the moments throughout the year that are marked in my mind and that are now fond memories.

I remember listening to Geneva’s stories on the bus every morning, when normally I would have done anything to sleep at that moment.

I remember being new to the school with Thomas and the embarrassment I had because I had forgotten his name.

I remember going to the elderly home with Karolis and Cedric and us talking about girls we liked.

I remember trying to break the ice with Leonie G for the first time by telling her a bad joke and her walking away silently.

I remember our TOK class commenting on a cheesy comment I made “your mind is like a calculator, it’s only useful if you know how to use it”.

To conclude, these memories may not all sound very pleasant, but they are nice to me, and even though I left a lot of funny ones out, these still give me a pleasant feeling. It’s not about how you feel now, but how you’re going to feel later that counts.

To my family: Mom and Dad: You have had all the struggles with me that you would expect from a teenager and believe it or not, but we have finally reached this milestone: I’m done with high school! Both of you have struggled through arguments and fights with me, for this I am truly grateful, I do not know many other parents who would go to the same lengths as you did. All the talks whilst walking the dog really did help, dad, although I’m sure you believe that they went in one ear and out the other.

I’m sure not everyone would agree with me, but having you work at school, mom, just made everything so much easier, because if anything were wrong at school, you would always jump in straight away. Without both of you at my side I am sure I would have never made it through the IB and I am truly grateful for everything you have done.

Caitlin, my little sis, you have been a total pain, but you were my pain and I would not have wanted it any other way.

Although we got in a lot of fights these last few years, you did often brighten my spirits when needed and we often laughed together. No matter where we went we would find a way to laugh and I love you for it. You still have a lot of school years ahead of you, but if I could do it then I am more than sure that you will be able to conquer the IB. To my friends: Geneva, man what is there to say? When I am asked to describe the friendships I have, ours always makes me laugh, I mean, who wouldn’t when on the first day at a new school you walk into homeroom and you see this little brunette going: ‘NAAATAAALIEIEIE!’ Honestly, there is no better way of being introduced to everyone in a way such as that one. As we go further down the line of our friendship, we have had awkward moments (which I’m not going to name) and I think it is safe to say that the phone companies should be paying us instead of the other way around, because damn those phone bills in the beginning … Luckily we discovered this magnificent program called Skype. Having all this said, I want to thank you for helping me around at AIS in the beginning and then sticking around and dealing with my weirdness. Our friendship is one that I cherish the most and honestly I do not know what I’m going to do without you in Uni. Maureen, when you arrived at school everything just got so much funnier, I am extremely happy that I met someone just as weird and sarcastic as me with whom I can prance (yes I said prance) through the school and nobody really cares. These last two years have been a blast and all the laughs we had together were priceless. So I wanted to thank you for being so awesome (do not let this go to your head) and I hope that we will end up at Universities not too far from each other!

Emma, I remember the day we met and how nervous you were about going to our school. I also remember telling you that you would be fine and guess who was right? We have had some crazy times together and I hope that we will be able to continue those. I had a blast hanging out with you and I hope that the second year of the IB will pass fast and smooth!

Maxim, omg what in the world am I supposed to say to you? I mean as soon as I show up one of us starts ranting about one thing, which leads to another, which eventually leads to us being loud and completely random. But guess what I love it so keep it up!

Phoebe & Esther, I was going to do you two separate, but then I realized that I would be typing exactly the same thing twice. You two are the funniest people and totally kept me going through our rehearsals in JCS, especially during the dance rehearsals. Surprisingly you two also did not question my ‘I lost my friends so I’m hanging out with you guys’ statement at numerous lunches and just went along with it! You two are still in for a hell of a ride, but I’m sure you’ll have fun!

Ellie, no matter what you have said in the past I’m confident that you will do just fine. You’ll see that school is not as bad as it seems. You’ll have a crazy amount of fun, so enjoy it to the most!

Parents: I have never had as much support from anyone, but no matter how many tears, struggles or smiles I have had, you two always had the right thing to say.

As your last child graduating, this must very difficult. A difficult journey it will be, new location, new people and hopefully all that investment will be worth it.

You always said ‘education is the most important investment you can make’ and I realize now how fortunate I am to have had this opportunity. Because of you I was able to visit more than 10 countries in one year, not many people can say the same.

Siblings: From London, Paris, Washington, San Francisco… wherever you were, you managed to help me survive the I.B. Regardless of you three not being there to graduate with me, you have been the most supportive.

Caroline: Little did we know of each other, but so quickly we clicked. It even came to the point where I took you on vacation. Definitely unforgettable, so many memories (not all to be shared), but it can still make me laugh, even in the most serious of times. I will certainly miss being on a team with you or even playing against you ;). Good luck my ‘little sister’. You can wear the number 4, for me now.

Emily: As of 9th grade, your little dimples and humor made us get along.

Countless sleepovers, interesting nights, vacations and several DMC’s sums up of why we have become more like family than just friends. You have stood there through everything, every up and every down; you’re the one I want to share it with. Even when we will be apart after we graduate, promise me one thing, let us continue our little dinner ‘dates’ in town, laughing till we literally fall off our seats.

Ann-Sophie: Although we are not always available, in fact we have the most controversial schedules, you always have made me laugh or cheered me up without any effort. I still find it incredible how I could get along with a girl, who can talk about an orange for 15 minutes straight when she is tired. Oh, by the way, expect me to ask you to sing/play some music for me when at university, since I won’t have the advantage to hear you in person as much anymore.

Girls of Grade 12: I will just have to put you all in a little group, because we were that small of a crowd. A huge advantage because we could get along so well.

Parents: What is there to say about you? As time passes by, answering this question becomes trickier than it ever used to. One of the reasons why is probably because my vocabulary does not grow as fast as your significance in my heart. However, you know how my planning goes – leaving everything aside until the last minute – and you know how much harder it becomes for me to achieve my tasks. Well, here I am answering that question, which you long deserved the answer to.

Never would I ever dare imagine a life without your presence. You are the reason I have a life. You are the reason I am able to overcome the challenges of life. You are the reason I enjoy my life. You are the reason why I want and will succeed through life. Again, I want you to understand that neither words, nor tears will be able to make you visualize how big my love is for the both of you. The day I leave, I want you to know that nothing will make me happier than you being proud of the effort you have put in bringing me up to model the man you made of me, despite my many flaws.

Sisters: How does it feel to finally see your little brother ending school?! Yessss sisters I’m done… for a while at least! Aren’t you so sad that you aren’t going to see me no more on Sundays? It’s all okay, we still have to go on that world trip together, make it up for good.

Now, even though I’ll probably be far away from you for most of my time, it doesn’t mean that YOU will be from me. Dad and Mom: I can’t believe I’m graduating already. Dad, It seems like yesterday that our under 12-basketball team won NECIS. Having you as a basketball coach has made school that much more fun and also increased my basketball skill exponentially; you taught me the importance of defense and that “it is not the size of the dog in the fight, but the size of the fight in the dog”. I will never forget our ski trips to Austria, and I can’t wait until the next time we go. Mom, I know that I am not always the easiest kid, and I want to thank you for your guidance, encouragement and always offering your help when I needed it. Without it, I would not be the person I am today. I love you both.

Sander: I know we don’t always get along, but the truth is that you are the best brother in the world. I am really going to miss you and I will be sure to visit as often as I can. Make sure you keep practicing your Halo skills and maybe you will be able to beat me someday. I love you.

Dorset was an amazing experience and I enjoyed it to the fullest! It was a true PAGM* for me to be able to see all the wonderful sights. *Personal Awesome Geographical Moment

We learned a lot during the Dorset trip, while simultaneously having so much fun. We got to know each other better, and most of all had an awesome experience, with some breathtaking geographical moments!

I loved speeding down hills and feeling the cool breeze blow against my face; mountain biking was one of my favorite memories.

I mostly liked the game place and playground, it was so fun; best exercise was high rope.

The disco was so fun; everyone was sweating and dancing until they could not feel their feet.

It was good weather, so we had a lot of fun kayaking and we got to swim in the sea.

Staying on the boat was really nice. I learnt a lot of new things and the kayaking was a lot of fun.

It was really nice, because it was beautiful to sleep in a place surrounded by nature and be with your friends. I enjoyed all the fun activities.

A number of the students showed great resilience and team work and really rose to the challenge.

I had so much fun, the aerial obstacle course was amazing!

It was really fun. I really liked the mountain climbing.

Wonderful experience. The ships were like a piece of history and you could clear your mind with no modern technology available.

It was an adventure. It got the class closer together as a group.

It was quite nice to socialize with the new students. It was a great experience, because we got to know the different parts of a sailing boat.

Grade 10 - Belgian Coast

Despite staying in a public bus, it was an enjoyable fieldtrip with many great activities throughout the day, such as rafting, kayaking, surfing and many more.

Learning to surf was great, except for the fact that we spent more time falling in the water than on our surfboards.

It was great with all the field activities; the weather was beautiful and the bike ride to Bruges was athletic. Hidden 10th grade talent: making smores!

When I first heard we were doing Jesus Christ Superstar I was surprised. It seemed impossible to successfully accomplish such a big production in such a short amount of time and with such a small cast, but through hard work, long rehearsal hours, and great dedication from every single one of the cast members, we managed to put on a great musical, which I was extremely proud to be a part of. - Claudia V.

Welcome to the near future, where there is a desire to total adherence to the notion of a duty to be beautiful. How do we define what is beautiful?

What does society value in terms of the aesthetic? As Silas says “Ugly is just a word”. It’s what’s inside that counts, right? Are we sure that we make this clear to the next generation though? What message do we send them?

‘The Beauty Manifesto’ explores the idea of what happens when these lines become blurred and we’re forced to look at ourselves in the mirror.

Honour Choir is a select group of students who come together to form an incredible choir for a long weekend.

They do a blind audition for a place in the choir. It is certainly an honour to be a participant at these festivals as it only takes the best music students from international schools all around the world. Only 20 from each voice category gain a place, so we are very proud of Esther Van Hoeve and Cameron Buckmaster from AIS! The conductor for the festival, Dr. Edith Copely, and the Founder of the AMIS Festivals, Mr. Richard Bassett, awarded Cameron with the â&#x20AC;&#x153;Veteran AMIS Awardâ&#x20AC;? for being in so many of the festivals. Only a few of the students there received this honour, and Cameron was among them!

This year AIS made the decision to focus on one all school charity. The Best of Both supports schools in North East Ghana in the areas of water, nutrition and education.

The Best of Both is student led by a CAS group comprised of HS students. Funds have been raised through the sales of Best of Both bracelets, bake sales, the Student Council Fashion Show and most recently, the Donate a Desk Campaign. A total of 7,000 euros has been raised and will be used by Pelungu School to repair and lock their well, start a market garden and provide desks and chairs for 250 students and eight teachers.

In connection with our school charity, The Best of Both, the Grade 4 class and their teacher, Mrs. Howcroft, organized a campaign to raise the money to provide 125 double desks for our partner school, Pelungu Primary. At the school the 250 students in Grades 1-3 have no desks and do all their classes sitting on the floor.

Students in ES, MS and HS were asked to donate euros to build model desks. Each euro ‘bought’ one block and 18 blocks built a desk. The campaign ran for one week and raised 2,500 euros – more than enough for 125 desks. During the week, the ES students had an awareness raising day when they too worked on the floor. Sore bottoms for all!

schools for Salone

23 Cars Washed and 325 euros raised for Schools for Salone The Andersen and VandeBovenkamp families held a car wash to raise money for Schools for Salone. There was a steady stream of cars from 11- 3pm, which made it nice and easy to keep up, as well as stop to chat about Schools for Salone and about how small fundraisers make a big difference. The goal was to raise 300 euros and create awareness for Schools for Salone, which the event did in its own small way.

Schools for Salone is a non-profit organization that helps rebuild schools, devastated in the 10 year civil war in Sierra Leone.

In just 8 years, they have built 15 schools (most with wells) and 2 libraries. The cost to build a school is only 55,000 USD and once the money is raised for approved schools, it takes just 60 - 90 days to build. Terry Fox run

The Terry Fox Run for Cancer Research On Sunday, Oct 6, AIS held the Terry Fox Run for Cancer Research. This used to be an annual event and the organizers were glad to do this again. Thanks to all who came out on a cool and drizzly Sunday to support the Terry Fox Run for Cancer Research at Hof de Bist. We raised 850 Euros for a great cause! In total 80 people of all ages with some of their four-legged friends came for some exercise, but a special thanks to the PTO for sending out the flyers, Stephenie Nagle and her cross-country team, the Trauger family for donating bananas, and all the CAS students for set-up, clean-up, and MCâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;ing. Looking forward to next year!

Each year, the entire 11th grade class devotes a great deal of time and effort to one of the major events on the AIS calendar, the International Gourmet Dinner (IGD). The dinner brings together the year group in a different context than that in which they typically interact at school. Furthermore, the IGD enables the High School Counsellor, Dr. Cameron, to learn more about each student in the first important step toward showing their well roundedness for university study. Three students were selected through a competitive process to lead the year group - Aadit Gandhi, Urmi Mody, Jay Sanghvi - in the various tasks that are required to enable the dinner to succeed, from marketing, personnel and finance through to the design of the hall and planning the live entertainment. The highlight of the event is always the international cuisines, generously prepared by 11th grade families. This year’s IGD was one of the most successful in the event’s history, with over €5000 being raised for this year’s chosen charity, Oxfam.
