The reviewing officer was Air Commodore Barbara Cooper CBE FCIPD FRAeS RAF, Commandant of the Air Cadet Organisation. Air Commodore Cooper remarked “I am delighted to see our third Corps Banner laid up in the magnificent surroundings of St Johns Kirk in scotlands newest city. The Air Cadet Organisation has over 120 units throughout Scotland and Northern Ireland and offers a wide range of opportunities for todays youth, and I have seen those here today do themselves proud.“

Commandant Air Cadets, Air Commodore Barbara Cooper arrives for the service and is met by Squadron Leader Eddie Carr (ARC SNI Region).

The sermon was given by the Rev Tom Tait who was the Corps Chaplain from 2002 till 2010. Tom was the first Scot and the first non-Anglican to hold the most senior chaplaincy post in the Air Training Corps since the formation of the Corps in 1941. As Corps Chaplain he was responsible to the Commandant Air Cadets for the day to day running of the chaplaincy service. He worked closely with six Regional Chaplains and had a responsibility for some 700 other clergy who serve their units throughout the country. Padre Tait, until lately was the minister of Rattray Parish Church, was appointed to 2519 (Blairgowrie) Squadron as their padre in 1974 and was later commissioned in the RAF

Volunteer Reserve from which he retired in 1988 retaining the rank of Flight Lieutenant. He was appointed Chaplain for Dundee and Central Scotland Wing in 1978 and served until 1977 when he was appointed as Regional Chaplain for Scotland and Northern Ireland. The Air Cadet Management Board decided that, in recognition of Padre Tait’s service as Corps Chaplain, he should have the privilege of deciding where the third Corps Banner should be laid up. This marks the first occasion when a Corps banner has been laid up in Scotland. The service was conducted by the Rev James K. Wallace who is the Minister of St John’s Kirk of Perth and the Rev Alistair K Ridland, who is the Scotland & N Ireland Regional Chaplain.
