PRESIDENT’S LETTER

Dear AIP members,

I hope you all had a happy and productive holiday season. There are several updates for each of you: first of all, I regret to let you each know that Joy Haynes, the administrator responsible for our account at XMi, has left for a new position at an unrelated entity. We will continue to miss her cheerful demeanor. But good news frequently follows bad! Join me in welcoming Betsy Hilt to the AIP team. Betsy has been with XMi for decades, and has given me her personal assurance that she does not plan to leave any time soon! Betsy has great experience working with groups like ours, and has her CAE designation. Like Joy, she has been pleasant, helpful and efficient, and I know you will all enjoy working with her! Welcome, Betsy.

On a couple of other notes: Communications Director Larry Cisar and his team continue to make great strides on the website, which will give AIP a fresh new face for both our members and the public. If Larry has asked for your assistance, or for you to provide

some materials, please do so. If you would like to volunteer to produce brief educational content for the website, please contact Education Director Ruth Ryan.

Congratulations to Vice President Daniel Ivey-Soto, who was reelected to his Senate seat in New Mexico by a wide margin. Member Roger Hanshaw was also reelected as a delegate to the West Virginia legislature. It is happy news that these two chambers will have the wisdom and guidance of these AIP members.

Do not forget to sign up for the West Coast Practicum. Dollie McPartlin and Mary Remson have been busy planning a wonderful program for us. CPP exams are scheduled -- one of which is mine. The Board will meet on Sunday morning, February 5, at 8:00 a.m. Pacific time at the Azure Hotel in Ontario, California. Please let me know if you have questions or if you wish to submit a Request for Decision to the Board. See further information about this event in this newsletter.

On a different note, AIP and FFA have signed a Memorandum of Understanding which formalizes our relationship, and allows AIP to grant scholarships in the form of membership dues waivers to participants in national level youth parliamentary procedure contests. Contact Youth and Scholarship Activities Chair Al Gage for more information.

I am also pleased to report that Craig Henry is generally recovered and is back at work following his car accident in Albuquerque. What happy news!

Finally, some exceptionally good news to report: AIP’s educational materials, which are available through the Amazon bookstore and available on Amazon, have earned AIP over $2,000 so far this calendar year. Thanks to Educational Director Ruth Ryan, Printed Materials Division Chair Ann Rempel, and the other

authors and contributors for their hard work in making this a reality.

Put the 2017 Annual Session in Tampa on your calendar for July 20-22, 2017. And don’t forget the West Coast Practicum “Becoming a Master Presider” scheduled for February 2-4, 2017. CPP exams will be given – I will be one of the candidates, and I welcome you to come and cheer me on!

In the meantime, consider expanding your credentials, or looking for other ways to help advance the cause of AIP.

I look forward to seeing you soon!

Kay

AIP has two separate ways that we earn money from Amazon: through the Amazon Smile program and through items in the AIP bookstore at our website.

Items purchased through the bookstore pay us a higher rebate, but only if the item is actually listed in the bookstore. For that reason, some “gavel” items (jewelry, clothes, and um, gavels) are going into the AIP bookstore.

Put higher priced purchases and gifts into the AIP bookstore and purchase them through the bookstore for a higher donation to AIP. Anyone who would like to coordinate that type of activity need only contact President Kay Crews for help!

This is “free money” for AIP, and anyone who supports these programs is also supporting our professional organization!!!
