An advance Happy New Year to all our readers! AIFMP is gearing up for a smashing 2024, riding on the growth prospects of the Indian economy and the bullish trends in the print segment, largely insulated from the global recessionary trend by the huge population and consequent customer base.

The MSME sector has got tremendous potential to grow in this scenario, and with new non-traditional sources of credit emerging (news inside) this part of industry can leapfrog to occupying the major chunk of GDP in the near future.

PAMEX 2024 is set for February 6 to 9 at Mumbai, building and expanding on the theme “Convergence” to new realms of print. The exciting new field of Textile Printing will be showcased in this. The continuing story of environmental safety towards achieving net-zero will be on display at this edition, and care for the environment was never more important that now with global temperatures reaching record highs in 2023, making it the warmest year in the 174-year observational record, surpassing the previous joint warmest years, 2016 at 1.29 ( ± 0.12) °C above the 1850–1900 average and 2020 at 1.27 (±0.13) °C, as per data with the World Meteorological Organisation. th

As an adjunct, sustainable packaging will assume more importance in light of the extreme weather and climate hazards exacerbating challenges with food security, population displacements and impacts on vulnerable populations. Such developments in packaging solutions will be showcased at PAMEX 2024.

The 16 National Awards for Excellence in Printing (NAEP) and 2 Global Print Excellence Awards (GPEA) are scheduled to be presented on 8 February at Hotel Sahara Star, Mumbai. This year’s awards are backed by a newage empowered team of technocrats who have aided the AIFMP in creating a modern SOP and software-driven judging and awarding system, that promises to usher in the highest standards of objectivity in the selection of the winners. This promises to recognise true excellence, and will surely be a major confidence booster for participants. th

On the AIFMP home-front, the 263 Governing Council Meeting is scheduled at Madurai, a beautiful city with a history of over 2500 years, known for its magnificent temples, including the revered Meenakshi Amman Temple.

Hosted by the Sivakasi Master Printers Association, who are celebrating their Platinum Jubilee, this promises to be one of the most fruitful meetings of the AIFMP. A report will be forthcoming in the next issue. rd
