Message from the President

60 Years of Youth Leadership

However, in spite of the fact that we have some similarities with the past, our organization has been going through a dramatic change these past few years. Our membership has risen towards 80+ active members with an ever-growing base of alumni as result. Our operations, both in sales as in projects and exchanges have also expanded.

This expansion led to our stakeholder-oriented strategy of AIESEC UA 15-16. First, by pivoting every track towards the goal of providing leadership experiences by going on an AIESEC exchanges, we recommitted this organization towards our core product. This has led to better cooperation, especially between our Outgoing Exchange & Communications department, resulting in a renewed marketing strategy both towards students and companies. Secondly, we laid out the first steps towards a more longterm financially stable Local Committee by looking at ways to diversify our income. We signed on new partners and at the same time, we gained the trust of existing ones, such as Flow Pilots and Nokia (formerly Alcatel-Lucent), putting AIESEC UA on the path of multiple long-term partnerships. And lastly, by putting education first and looking at how we can both improve our learning-by-doing methods but also by allowing companies to talk about their experiences, we invested in the most important part of AIESEC UA: our members.

This year, as it has done in the previous 3 years of my memberships, AIESEC UA has provided me with lifechanging experiences which challenged me and allowed me to gain new insights and skills. I would like to thank AIESEC UA for giving me these experiences and for giving other people in the last 60 years the opportunity to develop themselves.

I would like to wish the next team, AIESEC UA 16-17, the best of luck. Not only for having a successful year, but also for their self-development in this organization, since every AIESEC-experience should be a win-win situation for both parties. The future for this organization looks brighter than ever.

Annual Report

60 years ago from today, AIESEC UA was founded. Then, as certain alumni can still recall today, our Local Committee consisted of just a single representative who had a passion for changing the world through youth leadership. By giving people the chance to discover and develop themselves. Although today AIESEC UA has grown exponentially, 2015-2016 shared the same passion that started this organization so many years ago.

Why, how and what

Since then, the world has been changing faster than ever before. We believe that young people hold the key to a better future and they must learn to adapt quickly to solve problems. This is why AIESEC strives to peace and fulfillment of humankind’s potential.

Annual Report

AIESEC was founded after the second world war by students from Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, the Netherlands, Norway and Sweden. Our fundamentals were shaped by the social, economic and political climate of the time.

In today’s context, ‘Peace’ does not exclusively mean avoiding war. Peace can symbolize a world that does not have conflicts that arise from cultural, religious, or other aspects of differences in humanity. Peace can also symbolize being in harmony with yourself. AIESEC strives to build a world where people can work towards their own understanding of peace, while respecting and understanding the views of others.

Through “Fulfillment of Humankind’s Potential, AIESEC strives for a world where people can be the best version of themselves.

ING Excellence in Leadership Award

The Excellence in Leadership Award is given to people who have developed and demonstrated outstanding overall leadership qualities throughout the year.

Be on the lookout for the 2016 AIESEC UA Awards during the Stakeholders Night on Friday, April 22nd.

AIESEC and ING share the same commitment towards leadership development, because in a world advancing at an unprecedented pace, we need leadership more than ever in order to tackle the arising challenges. That is why ING aims to build positive, inspiring leadership from the inside out.

AIESEC History

This brought individuals together in Liège, August 1946 and later in Stockholm during the last months of 1948, finally resulting in the first International Congress (IC) in March 1949; culminating into what we all now know today; AIESEC.

The presiding table at the third International Congress in Paris, 1951.

Prospects for Expansion Growth in exchange doubled almost every year along with the expansion of AIESEC to three new continents by late 1950’s; from Western Europe to the rest of Europe and moving on to Africa and America. As AIESEC felt more established in exchange, seminars became new means for us to conduct systematic and formal study of issues that were locally relevant in society.

This meant we were moving beyond merely promoting close and friendly relations. The beginning is marked by the first AIESEC sponsored seminar in Hald, Denmark from September 11 to 19, 1955.

Annual Report

A dream called AIESEC Devastation, turmoil, anger and despair. The world in which it all began in was not a pleasant one. Despite this, there was a burning need to bridge the gap across people and cultures as well as pressure for business schools to produce capable individuals to rebuild the economy.

The AIESEC Culture

Customs and Traditions Conferences The strength of the network So what is an AIESEC Conference? AIESEC seeks to provide leadership and development opportunities to its members and one of the most effective ways it achieves this is through conferences. Typically a jam packed two or three day session with everything ranging from workshops, development, socials, and reflection. Everything is well organized by an “OC” – team, an organizing committee behind the scenes dedicated to making the conference the best possible, and facilitated by a “FACI” – team, a group of AIESEC’ers trained specifically to facilitate sessions for events such as these.

Over the past year, four conferences were held in Belgium: • National Training and Motivational Seminar (NTMS) De Panne, November 2015 • Connect - Bredene, March 2015 • International Train the Trainers (ITtT) - Antwerp, April 2015 • National Conference (NatCo) - Brussels, April 2015

Annual Report

AIESEC hosts over 500 conferences every year that range in length and demographic scope. The purpose of

conferences are to bring the (inter)national community of AIESEC members together to enhance their professional skills, provide networking opportunities, socialize and work on organizational strategy. There are AIESEC conferences at a global, regional and national level.

15

Global Village A taste of the world in one place At a Global Village, groups of AIESEC’ers each represent a country or culture, typically through food, costumes and music. It is an event where the whole world comes together to discover new horizons.

Global Villages can be held at conferences or are often organized as a stand-alone event to showcase AIESEC Exchanges towards students.

1965 UFSIA: Founding of the UFSIA university, which included the SaintIgnatius School. Thus, AIESEC Sint-Ignatius became AIESEC UFSIA.

Roll Calls Spread across 126+ countries in a few years AIESEC roll calls are the calling of the names or groups of people from a list to determine the presence or absence of the listed people. Roll calls have been a long held tradition in AIESEC that often happen are conferences. Whether you’re a global partner of AIESEC, or a new member, they enable you to connect with our community. Roll calls represent the vibrancy, dynamism and culture around AIESEC and the spirit of bringing people together across different cultures.

If you’ve ever attended an AIESEC conference or internal event, they will always start with roll calls to bring energy and signal the attendance of specific groups of people. They are custom dances that are often done with a group of people to represent and showcase your country or territory’s personality, culture and spirit. They are typically done in alignment with a song from popular culture (AIESEC UA’s roll call during ‘15-’16 was Five More Hours by Deorro, preceded by Taylor Swift’s Shake It Off), or even more traditional songs.

How did it all begin? AIESEC legend has it ... the old way was the simple announcement of countries or territories and they would say “present,” but one time at an AIESEC International Congress, one African delegation started dancing instead of simply saying “present”. This started the tradition.

Announcement at UA Elections

Elections Leadership through democracy AIESEC believes in democracy. At AIESEC UA, all members of the Executive Board (EB) - consisting of seven Vice Presidents and one President - are elected democratically by the members of AIESEC UA. After submitting an application, candidates deliver a speech on election day, followed by a Q&A session. Members and alumni then hold a general discussion and proceed to vote. At the end of the day, all candidates stand in line. The winners of the election are announced by receiving water over their head.

AIESEC has been nominated World’s Most Democratic Workplace by WorldBlu for nine consecutive years. At all levels in all countries, the AIESEC leadership bodies are elected through a democratic process.

Nicolas Van Spilbeeck - Management, Philippines Between 2011 and 2014 I was an active AIESEC’er in Antwerp, with my term as Local Committee President in ’13-’14 being the most memorable year. Shortly after my activities on a local level, I decided to take my AIESEC experience to the next level and go on an exchange.

I went on a Global Citizen Project in Southeast Asia; more specifically in Manila, the capital of the Philippines. There I was a marketing intern for social start-up business called ‘The Carrier Pigeon Project’. It is a growing online fashion social enterprise with the mission of promoting education as the key enabler in helping underprivileged children build a brighter future for them and their families. As such, TCPP is actively involved in organizing orphan outreach events, distributing school supplies and funding scholarship programs that keep underprivileged children out of the workforce and in the classroom instead.

In the organization I was responsible for several matters. I worked on their marketing strategy, more specifically on how they could convey the social aspect of their business in the marketing message. Furthermore I assisted with the new marketing campaign and photo shoot for the new collection. Then I also designed the first part of a financial literacy education program for school children. And finally, we saw the impact of what we were doing in the

organization by visiting several scholars and orphans that are supported by TCPP.

My Global Citizen experience helped me to understand that there I gained practical experience in are an insane of another country and had a direct amount d i f f e r e n c e s positive impact with what I was in this world: doing. p e o p l e , cultures, nature, cities, food, poverty, etc. You can really put in perspective the life you have in Belgium and the society we currently live in. Because of all these differences it’s easier to understand who you actually are and what you want to do in life. The most amazing moment was our field trip with the team from my project. The owners of the startup were so thankful after my internship that they invited my colleagues and me for a 2 day holiday trip to one of the beautiful beaches in the Philippines!

"

Going on this adventure to the Philippines was a perfect addition to my studies in Belgium and my AIESEC experience in Antwerp because it allowed me to have a practical experience in another country and have direct positive impact with what I was doing. Furthermore I discovered parts of the world I never saw before and also enriched myself as a person!

Abdul Hamid Achik Lopez - IT, Belgium I came to Antwerp from Torreon, Coahuila in Mexico. I now work at UXPROBE through the AIESEC Global Talent program. Not only has this experience helped me become a better software developer, I also learned that enjoying life is much more important than making a lot of money or anything else.

"

I have met amazing people from I have met so many amazing all over the world.

people! I have made friends for life from different countries - not only from Belgium! For me AIESEC means the answer to the question I had before:“how to improve my life and career direction?” If you want to improve your life, your skills as a professional and make friends for life from different cultures around the world, then an AIESEC internship is perfect for you! Stephen Fenwick - CEO, DHL Express Americas Our interns have demonstrated commitment and enthusiasm and are enriching the culture of our organization, with this truly valuable DHL / AIESEC partnership, we aim to attract talented young people to our industry and company and walk the talk of becoming an employer of choice. Ben Rombouts - CEO, INTRIS As a medium sized organization, INTRIS is dealing with the challenge of internationalizing its products and services. The partnership with AIESEC helps us to see some of these challenges from another point of view and put things in perspective. Having young and motivated students participating in our projects will certainly lead to new and fresh ideas. This will definitely help us to create software for the people of tomorrow and make our application future-proof.

The required paperwork for taking an internee in our company was very limited. After the quick selection procedure AIESEC deals with the visa and housing aspects, so as a company you can stay focused on your daily job. For similar projects we will definitely stay in touch with AIESEC and see if we can work out new win-win situations, both for our company as for the AIESEC trainee

Jason Yung - Business Administration, Mexico The team of business developers at PwC Mexico is very international. I hear different languages every day, such as German, Japanese and Italian. We learn a lot from eachother - it is a huge support system. I have learned a lot about myself.

Although I was apprehensive about leaving home at first, after a period of learning I started to feel very comfortable. This has been a great experience for me, growing in a personal way, having more responsibilities and being aware about my life and professional paths.

David Marquis Orsetti - IT, Belgium I first learned about AIESEC in my home university UCAB (Venezuela), it seemed like an interesting opportunity so I decided to look into it.

Having been an AIESEC trainee in two different countries as well as a member of AIESEC in Venezuela I have to say that within AIESEC you really have the opportunities to develop yourself as a leader. From being able to assume leadership roles starting from small projects to nationwide coordination of events and partnerships, to being able to travel the world and work with people from other cultures. I would say that there is no doubt that being an AIESECer you quickly learn about what you are capable of achieving, and will also develop skills that will allow you to dream big.

During my time at Alcatel-Lucent I acquired the confidence to work in a professional environment with a very diverse group of colleagues who come from many different countries, the technical skills that allow me to understand the complex networks that allow us to communicate every day, the organizational skills required to manage different technical projects, and the flexibility to move from one project to another while being able to adapt to new complicated scenarios.

The Activating Leadership Award is given to AIESEC members who have been able to spark leadership in others, empowering people to become better leaders themselves.

We inspire our employees to act as en entrepreneur inside each business unit, for which strong leadership is essential. The Activating Leadership Award drives young people to discover and develop their own leadership qualities, which we are happy to support.

AIESEC History

This was an indication that awareness for support in a global setting is occurring. Following closely behind, the end of the decade is marked by one of the most successful and ambitious projects for AIESEC at that time – International Transfer of Management Skills (ITOMS); a synthesis of ideas generated in regional conferences held in Japan, Switzerland, the United States and Ghana. After three years of work, the world conference on ITOMS was held in the International Labour Organisation in Turin, Italy from November 17 to 21, 1969, bringing together over 200 delegates from 40 countries. ITOMS was intended to be AIESEC’s agent of international skills transfer as well as a bridge between academic and business communities.

STRES, a new frontier In 1967, work began on a program dubbed Student Traineeship Exchange System (STRES) for an effective and fair approach to facilitate flow and standardization of information. Exchange numbers have already reached the 4500 mark and matching that large group of students to the diverse array of traineeships was stretching the capacity of AIESEC.

AIESEC assembled input of experiences, problems, possible solutions and the possibilities of transferring management skills such as one on “Cultural Differences: How much a Problem?” which was presented and discussed during the conference. Through development programmes created afterwards, ITOMS also helped to maintain high activity of AIESEC member countries. International themes have from then on continued to provide a strong sense of direction for AIESEC.

undertook a great task of translating forms into something the computer could understand while enabling exchange controllers to familiarize with the codes and procedures involved.

The Paris International Congress in 1969 saw people for the first time, anxiously waiting until the wee hours of the morning for matching by the mainframe computer with punch cards in deciles.

To meet this need, an international committee of Electronic Data Processing (EDP) made up of AIESEC members was put together to create and imple- ment a new computer matching program. As a result from that, STRES was developed by students from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology with the help of IBM donated computers. They

Outgoing Exchange

Foundations for the future

Through an OGX-COMM collaboration, we worked out an enhanced system in which a clear follow-up and a handson-approach were guaranteed. Secondly, for OGX the entire flow starts with the sale of our exchange programs. Each member of OGX should be a true salesperson with a solid foundation of OGX-knowledge. Therefore, each OGX-member received a booklet of 36 pages with OGX-knowledge that was handled during meetings. Furthermore, we worked on a personal sales pitch for each member that was practised during fun simulations and that was put in practice on fairs in the second semester.

Last but no least, AIESEC is a professional youth-run organisation and this professionalism should be projected to all students on campus. The previous goals and actions have definitely supported us in the realisation of this objective with the main contribution coming from the members who became true AIESEC-representatives that were highly involved in the realisation of students’ dreams to go abroad.

to split up our events in the second semester and adjust the content to the specific programs that were in the spotlight that day. Furthermore, we decided to give students more specific examples by presenting them actual opportunities that can be found on the database. Together with a more personal review board, this sets expectations right from the very beginning.

AIESEC as an organisation, gets its powers from the strong, international network that has been maintained for decades now. This year, OGX decided to use this network and we worked out a collaboration with AIESEC Leuven in the Global Intern event, the event that focused on the Global Talent Program. TN Managers from five European countries came over to Antwerp to present their opportunities and countries.

The success of these events made AIESEC UA very ambitious and we hope in the future to see more of AIESEC UA exploring opportunities to ‘bring you the world’ in a very literal way.

Annual Report

I started this AIESEC-term with three ambitious goals in mind. First of all, OGX is a track that works along a routinely flow where each step adds value to the experience of students with the ambition and dream to go abroad. In order to deliver a sustainable and qualitative service to our clients, OGX was in need of standardisation with the main advantage of having a clear view on the current state of the operations and our clients.

One of the most fun experiences I had since I joined AIESEC was the Champagne Cantus. Next to that I had to do a lot of interesting interviews. I like to contribute to AIESEC by helping people in order to make their international dream come true. At the moment I am planning to do an international internship via AIESEC. My experiences with the Global Talent team surely contributed to that decision.

Nicolas Hendrieckx AIESEC made me realize that opening up to people comes with great reward, making lasting friendships. My best experiences were during team building and team meetings. One of the lessons I learned during AIESEC is that the best work is done within a great team. Everything starts with your team and team leader.

In my humble opinion, I was part of the best team in AIESEC this year, this is thanks to my awesome teammates and an excellent team leader. AIESEC showed me how a real team is composed of very different characters, but that is where synergies can be found. Morane showed me how you can get things done, without setting strict deadlines and always keeping a smile. People should join AIESEC to gain practical knowledge into how an organization works and really do teamwork, not team assignments.

What I like about AIESEC is that I can help people to go abroad to have an international internship. I am pretty proud of that. I joined AIESEC because I wanted to be part of a student organization in Antwerp. AIESEC seemed really interesting because it is international and it enables you to get in touch with people from all over the world. Since I joined AIESEC I learnt a lot of skills, like sales, professional communication and how to work in a team.

"

AIESEC is international and it enables you to get in touch with To me AIESEC is a great group people from all over the world. of people who try to improve themselves while doing fun activities with their team and their LC. People should join AEISEC because they can develop themselves whilst being part of a group of enthusiastic, young people. If I had to describe AIESEC in three words they would be: International, experience and teamwork!

Isabella Goossenaerts During my time at AIESEC I learned to be responsible. Especially in giving correct information about what exactly is Global Citizen, motivating others to join and following up your EP’s in their process towards going on their internship. My AIESEC experiences definitely influenced my life. Being a part of AIESEC has made me more confident in my social skills and in how I explain things. Whenever I am given something to present, it is more structured than before. Being a part of the OGX team has also influenced me in a way where I try to organize things better in my personal life. And through interactive track meetings, practice simulations and in the end real life situations, I feel like I’ve gained a lot of practical knowledge which hopefully have made me a better leader.

1988 New direction: start of a movement inside AIESEC to create a more prominent impact on society

Annual Report

I joined AIESEC because I was interested in AIESEC’s international character. I wanted to work together with people with the same international mindset. But I also joined because I am motivated to develop some soft skills.

We also increased the frequency and popularity of events organized for trainees - one event every month. By creating new booklets for our trainees and buddies, we helped them find their way around in Antwerp with ease.

The key to achieving these goals lies in good member education. We received workshops and training sessions on sales, account management, IT profiles, brainstorming and project management.

As a team effort, we were able to drive the Incoming Exchange track forward and create a strong base for the upcoming term!

Secondly, I wanted to unleash the full potential of our incoming trainees in order to increase the global mindset inside our LC. We improved the buddy system, which

1992 United Nations & AIESEC: From this year on, AIESEC is regularly invited to UN summits and seminars

I joined AIESEC to get more out of my college life and to learn some (professional) skills. My best AIESEC related experience has been CONNECT 2016. During this conference I got the chance to reflect on my life by sharing my story with AIESEC’ers from other LC’s in small groups. It made me realize that there are still many things in my life I need to figure out. I won’t say that this conference is a “life changer” , but it had certainly an impact on my life.

"

Being part of AIESEC makes you I have had chance realize that you’re capable of the to contribute more things than you think.

to AIESEC in several ways, for example by coming up with the idea to go the Christmas market with the trainees in December. Many trainees were present, had the chance to get to know some local AIESECers and had a lot of fun. Being part of AIESEC makes you realize that you’re capable of more things than you think and you learn a lot by having fun.

Leen Ceyssens, Team Leader I joined AIESEC UA because I wanted to gain some firsthand work experience and take my first steps in the business market. Ever since I went abroad on Erasmus, I dreamed of being part of an international organization. I’m grateful that AIESEC UA gave me that chance!

My best AIESEC experience was probably when I joined the AIESEC Buddy system. Although I love being part of the Account Management Team, it was great to actually meet the trainee in real-life instead of just looking at their CV. I was in charge of selecting trainees and setting up a shortlist for a rather difficult client. I’m proud of having that much responsibility and seeing it through.

Through AIESEC, I became more confident of my own professional capabilities. I also learned that you can’t do everything alone: you need to be able to work in a team. Because AIESEC is both like a huge international family and a professional workspace all in one, I would recommend anyone to be part of AIESEC!

Valérie De Bruyckere, Team Leader I joined AIESEC to meet new people in Antwerp and learn new skills. I wanted to be part of a community of young people who shared the same values and views and were as ambitious and engaged as I am. I am happy to say I found them here!

The best AIESEC-related experience for me was organising the trainee events. Being someone to rely on, meeting in a very diverse group of international people was absolutely amazing. All the trainees as superkind and we were able to learn from each others cultures in a fun way! I enjoyed being a Team Leader from the Buddy Reception Team more than I thought. My doubts and worries dissappeared when I got to know my team members and learned how valuable they were. They are all people I trust and can rely on. I think that we can be proud of our accomplishments together!

As a very new leader, I learned that proactivity is key. Always being aware of what situations might happen, and having the confidence to deal with situations you weren’t able to foresee. Also: trying to think about your members personally, how they feel and how my approach on things affects them.

External Relations

To the next level With our Next Step program we give our partners the possibility to attract and engage with young high potentials who are studying in Antwerp through our Job Fair, Job Alert, Speeddates,‌ The Global Talent program offers companies the chance to recruit young graduates through our global network which is present in 127 countries so they can expand their activities and their cultural scope within the company so they can grow internationally through their people.

Most partnerships start through cold calling and a first introduction meeting on site with corporate representatives to present AIESEC and to get to know the company’s needs. By working together with the company a proposal can be made and finally a contract is signed.

Our partners range from start-ups to multinationals. Every company has different needs and ER-members should derive those to create long-term sustainable partnerships.

This year we set 4 goals for the External Relations track. One of them was expanding the range of possible partnerships. The last couple of years there were only 2 possibilities for our partners to work with us, either Global Talent or Next Step. Since we are an organisation who is strongly value-based, we set out to create more comprehensive partnerships where the value overlap between two organisations is acknowledged and also converted into concrete actions where we include e.g. strategic advice, education, social media, ‌ to take our partnerships to the next level.

Secondly we aimed for an increase in efficiency and a more targeted approach towards possible partners. Since AIESEC is a volunteering organisation, our human capital should be optimally allocated to allow for a maximal impact. This led to a focus towards IT-companies and businesses who either have an international presence and have a strong value proposition.

Thirdly we started synergies with the Communications track to start with B2B marketing. This was brought to a higher level due to the strategical structure shift in Communications that created clear responsibles to brand ourselves effectively towards potential new partners.

Lastly, and this is in my opinion the most import one, ensuring cross term information flows that allow for an efficient follow-up process. Since we are creating a new team every year, the information that was brought into the network thanks to meetings and mails did not gettransmitted effectively to the new term. This led to misunderstandings with companies and a lot of leads that went to waste.

This year there was an opportunity to collaborate with the national level on a new CRM system and we took this opportunity to work towards a user-friendly system that invited the salesteam to implement the relevant data. The result is a modular CRM which allows each entity to adapt it to its own reality while ensuring a global database. This is a structure that is easily adaptable and thus will not be obsolete in a couple of years.

Joyce De Clerck I joined AIESEC because I wanted to meet new people, to develop my professional- and communication skills. For me, the first conference, NTMS has been a good experience to get to know the people and the vision of AIESEC better.

During my time at AIESEC I contributed through cold calling , participating in team- and company meetings and I even by signing a contract. The past year I learned where AIESEC stands for and how to tell business people about AIESEC and our Global Talent Program. AIESEC offers the opportunity to develop yourself in a professional way in a variety of tracks. Moreover, you will be participating in a motivated team with many great people.

Quirine Peeters I joined AIESEC because of my motivation to learn more besides my studies. AIESEC is an opportunity to see the knowledge obtained from my bachelor proven in practice! Due to my interest in sales and the organization of events the Skills training from Strand Associates has been the most enriching event for me the last semester.

My experience within the ER track learned me that sales isn’t just calling an organization and telling a story. There are specific skills and methods for so I’m learning every day to do it better the next time.I’m only for 3 months in AIESEC now, and I can say that I met already so many new people and learned new things that I can use now or in the future. Definitely a great experience! If you want to discover the business and develop your personal and social skills than is AIESEC the perfect opportunity for you!

The past year has been a rollercoaster, it is unbelievable what we did and learned in such a short period of time. It all started in october where we had the opportunity to participate in a couple of sales trainings. So when the actual cold calling began, we were prepared. Thanks to the sales trainings, cold calling wasn’t such a big deal. We quickly became comfortable calling companies, so it wasn’t for long until the first meetings were booked.

I joined AIESEC UA as a member of the ER-track in 2014 and I felt like it was a logical step to take on the next challenge in AIESEC and apply for team leader. Being Team Leader ER this past year, has given me several opportunities to further develop my soft skills.Next to gaining practical knowledge through sales trainings and conferences, also got the chance to improve my communication and leadership skills by goingon company meetings and by guiding, motivating and coaching the members of myteam.

On top of all that, you could go to an AIESEC-conference. We then received additional skill trainings and sessions about self-exploration.I can honestly say that the past year AIESEC has given me the best year of my life, it even changed me as a person!

All of this happens while working in an international environment, in a close team full of many other ambitious,open-minded and nice people. It has made my AIESEC experience not only a very interesting and

Communications

Building stronger brands

This year was built around a few main goals, the first of which being an increased effort towards Exchange marketing. AIESEC UA sends students abroad and brings trainees from all over the world to Antwerp as well, which means we have to attract both students and companies. Therefore, we increased our efforts in B2B Marketing and dedicated more resources to OGX Marketing.

The COMM track was also responsible for all internal communications. Our organisation has been growing significantly over the past years in terms of members, teams and synergies. This requires structured and efficient means of communication. We successfully implemented Google Apps and Podio to improve the way we collaborate within the LC.

Education was a key focus point throughout the entire year. Member education is key to empowerment and thus results in a more productive and satisfying experience for everyone. Members received a wide variety of functional trainings and workshops in graphic design, social media management, copywriting, e-mail marketing and so on.

This year, we wanted to unleash the potential of the entire pool of AIESEC’ers in our LC. 100 members combined have an tremendous reach, which was previously untouched. Part of enabling our members to be AIESEC promotors, was making social media marketing materials easily accessible to everyone as well as emphasizing the why, how and what of AIESEC at gatherings such as the Induction Day.

Another goal for this term was to further grown our online presence. This started by installing a brand-new website and capitalizing on its potential as an important element in our customer flow. Throughout the year, we have strongly grown our reach and engagement on social media. As part of the structural change in the second semester, we now use e-mail marketing, write blogs and use a content timeline for our elaborate range of social media channels.

The marketing track takes care of the very first steps in the customer journey, built around different target audiences through various brands. To better accomodate this principle, the COMM teams were re-structured for the second semester. These teams are each based one of our four brands (Global Citizen - Global Talent - Next Step - Future Leaders) and thus all cater to a different target audience.

Each team follows a funtional approach, in line with the Inbound Marketing Methodology. Designers, copywriters and social media managers are part of the ‘attraction’ stage, whilst website and e-mail marketeers cover ‘consideration’. This structure allows for a seamless transition from the Communications track to the Outgoing Exchange, External Relations, Project Management and Talent Management teams.

This year has been a significant step forward for marketing the AIESEC brands - and another strong stone in the foundation of the future of AIESEC UA.

Evelien Nauwelaerts, Team Leader I wanted to take the chance to develop my communication, leadership and public speaking skills further, applying for AIESEC has been the perfect opportunity to turn this goal into reality. AIESEC is not only a worldwide organization for exchange participants but it also provides international opportunities for it’s members. Last semester I have had the chance to work at the LC of AIESEC Montpellier during my academic exchange, which has been a very enriching experience.

What does AIESEC mean to me? First of all, AIESEC in an international organization for me providing the opportunity for both AIESEC members as well as EP’s to develop themselves in their local LC’s as well as internationally. Furthermore AIESEC represents a group of highly motivated, inspiring and hard working friends, striving together to achieve great results.

vvBeing an AIESECer challenges you to widen your view towards the world and develop plenty of skills according to the track you join. The last semester, I have had the luck working with an international team, together we strived to improve the marketing of our international exchanges. I have learned how to manage, motivate and encourage a team and I can proudly say that I have learned from my members in a bidirectional way.

SOCIAL MEDIA POSTS

Esther Schussler I joined AIESEC because I heard great things about this organization completely run by students. I wanted to gain more experience working as a content creator and explore the work field of communications. Luckily AIESEC gave me that chance!

For the Global Goals campaign, we had to contact famous Belgian people. We asked them to choose a goal they liked and if the could pose with it in a picture. I had to contact Herman van Rompuy, former president of Europe. He quickly responded that he would love to work with us. Two weeks later we visited him in Brussels for an interview and picture.

A great lesson I learned so far is to just go and do it. Join AIESEC and let it open new doors to new people and new learning experiences. AIESEC to me is a great organization with over 60 years of experience led by students. What I like about it, is that students get the chance to do something extra and be free to explore their interests and work together in a team. Working in a team, to me, is a great way to work and to learn from each other. Creating new ideas and joining forces to achieve new goals. People should join AIESEC because it will open doors and lead you to new possibilities. Next to that, it is a great way to meet new people, work together to achieve new goals and have

Future-proof

In the past, PM was known as the perfect track to quickly gain practical leadership experience since Organizing Committee Presidents - those leading the OC - were selected throughout the year. In order to keep on offering members opportunities to take up a leadership position, a third team was introduced for the second semester.

for improved synergies with other tracks such as COMM, ER and OGX.

2015 - 2016 has been a very productive year for PM. No less than 18 large-scale events were organized, leading to an average of 3,5 events per team over each semester. Aiming to better structure and utilize feedback from attendees, feedback forms were handed out at every event. Our average satisfaction rate from these forms is a very well-deserved 8/10.

This year’s strategy has fortified our foundation for the coming years. I am especially proud of the PM teams and their members, who were essential to making this a successful year!

Another goal for this year was to have a better trackfeeling, both in as well as between the teams. I can say that after this whole year, everyone knows each other very well and they truly enjoyed their time in this track and in their teams. Having a positive and engaging group atmosphere is the key to success.

The last point that needed some improvement this year was standardization. We worked with templates and shared platforms Google Drive and Podio so we were able to simplify the collaboration between Team Members, Team Leaders and the Vice President. Not only did this make operations inside PM more efficient, these tools also allow

Annual Report

This year, PM redefined itself by introducing a new structure with fixed team teams instead of several Organizing Committees (OC’s) with different leaders and different members every time. Charlotte Grootenboer I joined AIESEC because of its international character, its wonderful reputation and influence on young potentials. The best AIESEC experience I had so far is not easy to pick, since there are so many. I believe the excellent guidance of our coaches truly makes the difference. This year I will be graduating from my study Event- and Projectmanagement. I have been able to induct my knowledge thoroughly throughout the entire year and the different projects. Especially the organisation of the National Conference that is ongoing now really makes me push my boundaries.

Marnik Aerts

My best AIESEC experience was the conference NTMS 2k15, because the values of AIESEC were put into practice all weekend so I got to know them even better. Of course, it was also really fun to have some quality time with our LC! Also, I am most proud of organising the Job Fair in November because I felt it was really useful for both the students and the present companies to link up. I also learned something about some of the companies and was very satisfied after having organised this event.

What I learned as a part of AIESEC is that you shouldn’t underestimate your capabilities and knowledge. Everyone has something to contribute. At the events I have met interesting people and made some valuable connections. Apart from that, I have learned so much about myself and about turning theory into practice. This is a great help when starting my professional career next year.I am very grateful for the opportunities AIESEC gives to students. We enjoy ourselves, but we also realise that fun comes with hard work and goes along with a massive evolution in our professional lives. Our team is never scared to crack a few jokes, but when there is work to be done, everyone is in the zone. Our team leader and track leader both did an amazing job coaching us and helping us through the various tasks. AIESEC is the ideal way of making professional progress during your study in a fun way. Strong restructuring

The first one is comparable to the Human Resources department of an organization. Their job is to guarantee the ongoing inflow of talented people and to make sure everybody is allocated in the right team. Afterwards tracking their growth within our organisation and making sure they build a successful AIESEC career.

HR-related processes of 1 of the other 6 departments of AIESEC UA, they could follow and help the members of that department from beginning to end.

This year, the TM members got the opportunity to take on a little extra responsibility by becoming an OCP (Organising Committee President). This means that they could independently organise an internal event such as the X-Mas reception or the LC Teambuilding. By taking on this opportunity early on, they got to step out of their comfort zone and do something completely new. So far 3 members took this opportunity and all of their events were big successes!

The second one is responsible for the organisation of several events for our members during which they can develop their soft skills and enhance the AIESEC UA team spirit, some great examples are Students on Stage, a Christmas Party and workshops.

In the beginning of the term, I had 3 main goals for Talent Management: diversified tasks for my members, quicker delivery of our projects and standing closer to the other tracks. The main measure to accomplish those 3 goals was the complete restructuring of the track. I integrated the operations of 3 existing teams (recruitment, tracking and evaluation) into 1 team, thus giving the TM members several different responsibilities on a more constant level. Then, by making them each responsible for all the

2008 OGX in Antwerp: development of the OGX program in Antwerp - sending people abroad

I joined AIESEC when I started my career at the university because I am a very ambitious person. I was totally convinced that AIESEC was the perfect opportunity for me because I got the chance to develop my soft- and hard skills and I also would be a part of a great world- changing organization. Thanks to this experience as a team leader TM I could develop my leadership skills and I was able to grow as a person.

I have learned so much during this experience that thanks to this experience I even applied to become Vice President Talent Management. The achievement that I am most proud of is that I was capable to plan 93 interviews in 8 days. It was a hard job but after the work was done I was very satisfied. Everyone was also very helpful during this period so I would like to thank everyone for the support because I could not have done this without them!

Thanks to AIESEC I was able to grow as a person. AIESEC gave me the opportunities to develop my soft and hard skills and I am very thankfull for that. I started as a member TM in 2014 and one year later I became team leader TM and now I am the Vice President Talent Management for the upcoming year so thanks to AIESEC I was able to develop my leadership skills every year. This had a big influence

After being two years a part of the big AIESEC family I realised that everyone who is a part of AIESEC is always there for you so you never stand alone. I can not describe the atmosphere in AIESEC but if I could use just one word then I will use the word: FANTASTIC! Thanks to AIESEC I would not be the person that I am today, so thank you AIESEC. AIESEC is a global, independent, non - political, not - for - profit youth - run organization but the real reason why you should join AIESEC is to develop yourself and to make a change in the world. AIESEC offers you a lot of opportunities that you can’t even imagine. The thing that makes AIESEC so special is that you, as a student, will not only get theory but you will get the change to use your knowledge in practical experiences. AIESEC is life changing so don’t hesitate and join the AIESEC family.

Thanks to the team leader program of AIESEC I got the chance to develop my leadership skills. I learned how to manage my team but I also got the chance to work together with the EB. AIESEC made sure that every member and team leader got a good education and training so that they could use their knowledge in practical experiences. Lise Annaert I n the beginning of this school year I was thinking about how I could expand my professional knowledge during my studies. I noticed a lot of aula speeches were happening in this period of time and only one of them fully got to me. I went to the info session, which really surprised me. The international mindset, professionality and networking were things I was searching for and I was happy to find these in AIESEC.

My best AIESEC-related experience so far was NMTS, although I like our weekly meetings. At this conference I got to know a lot of great people from our LC. Not that the conference itself was my best experience because I thought the organization could be better but being together with AIESEC UA was really nice. I love that AIESEC makes the step between studies and a career smaller as I sometimes worry about this transition. People should be joining AIESEC because the feeling you’re helping others is probably the best there is. Although you’re a small part of a huge organization you feel appreciated and welcomed by everybody.

Finance

Sustainability through diversification

I can say that this year, through a lot of effort of the Account and Sales teams a more diverse number of partners are now in league with AIESEC UA. Both re-raising old partners and contact with new companies have led to a first step of financial independence from large partners. Towards the coming years I can only advise to continue the path that has been taken this year.

Not only in the raising of Incoming Exchange partners, but also in a few new projects there is a lot of potential that has been found. A few promising events have been organized in the term which can certainly be repeated in the future.

But more is still needed of course. This is something the Finance track will need to improve on, towards coming years. For the remainder of the term, this challenge will become a major focus of the track.

Diversification is one of the main objectives of this term, not only in the Finance track. There is still a lot of concentration. CRXP consists of 2 projects, where Projects consists of many events. ICX is also still dominated by a majority of one partner.

Budgeting is one of the most important tasks for Finance. If done well, the organization can predict future profits and losses in an acceptable range, and this is necessary to prevent possible threats. This year we see that for the first 9 months, the realized profit is about 11% higher than the budgeted. This equals a good estimation from in the beginning, which was also one of the main goals.

As part of a projects team, the Finance members were responsible to ensure success of projects while keeping the costs to a minimum. I am proud to say that every single project organized had a great ROI. Leander Baelus Of course, every track has its difficulties as well. Throughout the year it became clear that there often is a large gap between accruals and cash flow. After last year this was already known and a solution around conferences has already been made, which has shown its effect already. We’ve also started brainstorms about how to improve this issue, and some solutions have already presented itself.

At the beginning of the term, there were a few clear goals in the Finance Department. To ensure financial health and sustainability for AIESEC UA, one of the main goals was to diversify our revenue. Through Finance itself it is really difficult to have a direct impact on this. But through analysis of the current and past situation, you can advise towards goals that will propose a sustainable future.

2009 100: for the first time ever, AIESEC UA has over 100 members

Working with AIESEC

Grow your company by accessing our global youth network

That is in essence the story of AIESEC’s growth the last 60 years at the University of Antwerp. We develop people that proactively look for opportunities to grow together with an organization. People who are teamplayers and have the right values in mind.

With our Global talent programme we can bring people from 100+ countries into your organization to aid with your goals and pilot your company into an interconnected global world where an enormous potential for growth

lies. According to us bringing a different culture into an organization makes people rethink their previous decisions and put it in a larger, global context and thus prepare your enterprise for a bright, global future.

We assist start-ups, SME’s and multinationals in developing themselves by recruiting AIESEC’ers from all over the whole world and assisting them in the process. We strive to minimize any hassle, recruiting a young high potential from Indonesia or someone from Antwerp should not differ in a significant way when you are working with AIESEC.

This translates into our buddy reception team that takes care of housing, a phone number, a social network, …

We are looking for partners that share the same values as we do. Partners that we can actively support in growing their business alongside AIESEC. This way we can ensure

Flow Pilots Leading Innovation Award

The Leading Innovation Award is handed out to AIESEC members who have made an outstanding contribution to drive innovation in our LC.

Be on the lookout for the 2016 AIESEC UA Awards during the Stakeholders Night on Friday, April 22nd.

The world is evolving at a tremendous pace and we see that many jobs that people hold today, didn’t exist five or ten years ago. Flow Pilots is convinced that a student’s attitude towards the future is at least as important as the degree he or she holds. Skills and knowledge can be learned, in school or on the job, but a flexible, innovative and forward-looking attitute comes from within. Flow Pilots wants to recognise students who have shown the talent to think alongside with their employer or customer and truly change things for the better.
