AIESEC Tilburg – oneMen Cooperation For this summer we have some additional projects in Cameroon, Africa provided to us by oneMen. These projects are especially for students that are up for a real challenge, who want to make the world a better place by contributing to society. In this brochure you will find a description of these organizations and the job descriptions of the projects provided. Keep in mind that the deadline for application is the 15th of April!

oneMen oneMen is a non-profit organization that supports pioneers in the regions of Africa, Asia and Latin America. Through the support of oneMen these pioneers try to improve the circumstances of vulnerable people by striving for better human rights and freedom of the press, fighting AIDS, and caring for abused children. oneMen is supporting pioneers with concrete and transparent help in the form of transport and communication tools. With this practical help, aid can be provided on a larger scale.

United Action for Children

UAC is a non-profit organization that is active in the Southwest of Cameroon, mainly in the areas of Buea and Mamfe. The organization’s mission is to develop a caring and sustaining society for children and young people by means of innovative programmes. To achieve this mission UAC is aiming to stimulate the enrollment of rural- and urban-based childred into nursery and primary schools, help to improve the educational performance of these kids, introduce innovative pogrammes into the educational system of Cameroon, and facilitate the integration of young people into society through empowerment programmes. Examples of programmes where UAC is involved are: provision of elementary education, vocational training in computer skills, woodwork, electricity, sewing and painting, community sports for development, school on wheels and sponsorship 3


Manyu Palm Kernel Industry Self Help Organisation MAPKIN-SHO is an organization that is mainly operating in the central area of Mamfe, Akwaya, and the Kendem and Mbeme area. Its focus is only on the Southwest region of Cameroon. The goal of MAPKIN-SHO is the collective survival of the rural poor. MAPKIN-SHO wants to achieve this goal by implementing sustainable development projects to fight poverty and disease. The organization is especially active in the field of education and training, processing of palm nuts bi-products, and the mutilation of food. Tools that are used against selective selection of the fittest are: promoting public access of information, education and training of farmers; transformation and commercialization of Palm kernel and its byproducts; promoting of cash crop cultivation through nurseries; advocating for disadvantaged groups. Reach out REO is located in Great Soppo, Buea and operates within the Fako and Ndian areas, the Southwest of Cameroon. REO is an organization that supports underprivileged groups within communities on health issues, wealth creation, and the provision of capacity building and information through the use of participatory approaches and advocacy. Examples of supporting activities are: the capacities of the underprivileged people are strengthened by ensuring effective participation in development issues within their community, which gives them a perspective on a better livelihood; women and youth are more involved in decision-making processes; by establishing micro projects and micro credit operations the household incomes are improved. This gives the people within the community the opportunity to become self-reliant; stimulation of adaptation of positive behaviors within communities to create a healthy and happier life for the people. Orphans and vulnerable children are integrated into the community and enjoy the same rights and privileges as other children in the community have.

Job Descriptions United Action for Children Upon arrival at the organization, during the first week within the organization you are given a general orientation and introduction in to the organization. During this orientation, you will be given a general background of the organization, there is presentation of the different projects of the organization. Presently the organization runs the following programs which include, Elementary Education, Vocational Training and Sports. The two AIESEC interns from Tilburg will really be assets to our organizations and its programmes. During their stay at UAC, they will be expected to perform the following tasks: Marketing Sudent Responsibilities: 1) Gather seasonal media & demographic research 2) Help develop marketing plan UAC 3) Develop press releases 4) Design & Develop a Newsletter for the organisation 5) Assist with development of social network sites and website maintenance, develop new materials and update the UAC Website. 6) Assist with and perform any other duties as needed or assigned by UAC Management 7) Assist with development of fundraising and communications materials. 8) Assist with creation and distribution of newsletters and promotional items 9) Assist with UAC events and appeals e.g. UAC Week, Christmas and other Appeals. 10) Undertake specific research projects occasionally to help bring new supporters on board e.g. celebrities, corporates. 11) Assist with the tracking of income and issuing of thank you letters and receipts to effectively manage donors. Accounting Student Responsibilities 1) Help improve on the current UAC financial system 2) Assist with month-end financial reports 3) Post journal entries 4) Help with accounts receivable, payable and bank statement reconciliation 5) Assist with audits 6) Balance sheet reconciliation 7) Work with the finance team on yearly forecasting efforts 8) Manage the monthly tracking of our physical inventory 9) Support the payment processing team 10) Data entry 11) Credit checks

Reach Out Cameroon Preventable diseases cause high levels of mortality in many of the remote or rural communities (often left unsupported) where Reach Out Cameroon and its Health Department work. You could help strengthen primary care, improve referral, and help widen access to information. If you have an interest in working in HIV/AIDS, you could help by providing the right information to reach some of the poorest people of Tole through educational talks, the creation of social dramas, video projection etc. Teaching, training and developing HIV/AIDS services, such as free HIV testing and advising, you'll work to raise awareness on the pandemic and ensure more people access positive prevention methods, nutritional counseling to help them regain their dignity and quality of life. Title: HIV/AIDS Campaign Facilitator Time Commitment: 3 months (minimum). Job description/Responsibilities: Health Department – HIV/AIDs Unit: collaborate with the organization of an HIV/AIDS campaigns, plan the visits to the villages along with the department in charge, assist in all aspects of community work, preparation of materials, educative talks on HIV/AIDS, hygiene and sanitation, home visits and workshops. Based on individual’s experience, volunteers may help with outreach, or general office needs such organizing, reporting, and coordinating meetings Qualifications: Very reliable and organized, self starter and ability to work in difficult conditions under supervision. Good communication skills is required, basic skills on social work (preferable). Interest in fundraising.

The aim of Reach Out Cameroon and its Wealth Creation Department is to relief some of the economic problems suffered by the underprivileged communities in Buea by providing them with the right training and development of skills to make families selfsufficient and generate an income that would help them to have a better quality of life. If you have ideas of new small businesses or activities that could support a family and give them the chance to obtain money for their daily needs, then this is your place. Your creativity and willingness to extend a hand will be very appreciate it. Title: Wealth Creation Project Leader Time Commitment: 3 months (minimum). Job description/Responsibilities: the volunteer will lead a project on which the main idea would be to improve household incomes through establishment of micro-projects and micro-credit operations so that beneficiaries are self-reliant in the area of Buea. Based on individual’s experience, volunteers may help with outreach, or general office needs such organizing, reporting, and coordinating meetings Qualifications: Very reliable and organized, self starter and ability to work in difficult conditions under supervision. Good communication skills is required, basic skills on social work (preferable). Financial skills would be a plus. Interest in fundraising.

MAPKIN (Manyu Palm Kernel Industry) MAPKIN has the following projects available: 1. MARKETING OFFICER a) Oversees and advertises MAPKIN’s activities over the Internet (Webpage building,Facebook,Skype,LinkIn). b) To promote MAPKINS activities within the community and beyond c) Produce all promotional materials for MAPKIN d) Network MAPKIN with other similar organisations regionally, nationally and internationally e) Link and organize professional exchange visits between MAPKIN and other national and international organisations f) Webpage building g) Canvass for other volunteers h) Seek for an entry point for our organization into the corridors of (UNIDO VIENA,UNIDO ITALY, others) for upgrading of MAPKIN’S factory i) He has the responsibility to implement the marketing policy of the organization during his/her stay j) He shall work hand in glove with the Manager and other personnel of the project. 2. AN AGRICULTURAL SPECIALIST  Shall carryout research on Farmers needs/problems  Assist in seeking solutions to these problems by contacting foreign friends dealing in like fields  Ensure that farmers’ goods are conveyed to the market in good time  Act as a liaison with foreign organizations working in the field of agriculture  Promote agriculture activities during his/her period of internship with local farmers  Inject modern agricultural techniques to farmers through workshops, seminars and exchange visits  Emphasizes on the need to keep farm records/use of organic inputs
