Located in the heart of Chelsea’s vibrant art district, this building serves as a dynamic landmark, drawing visitors into its lively atmosphere. The glowing facade and operable panels, reflect the lively essence of a blackbox theater. The theater is designed to echo the five-act structure commonly found in plays, enhancing the pedestrian flow and creating a space that is both functional and symbolic.

The design takes full advantage of its proximity to the adjacent High Line. Visitors can step out of the third-story theater onto multiple balconies, blending the theatrical experience with the surrounding urban scenery.

Native American Museum 8 weeks

Native American culture is deeply rooted in a connection to nature and artistry, inspiring the building’s design. Abstract U-shaped forms, emphasizing unity and harmony with its surroundings, interlock along the riverbank, while the building’s mass pitches away from the river to create natural, embedded spaces.

The program progresses linearly toward the riverfront, with public galleries and a performance hall near the water, while private and educational spaces, such as classrooms and a library, are on lower levels. Sloped and flat floor planes replace partition walls, ensuring unobstructed views of the river from every space.

Residential Competition

Fall 2024

4 weeks

Core Living, designed for the Gateway Decathlon competition in St. Louis, aims to achieve net-zero energy goals through passive strategies and efficient floor plans. This segment of the competition focuses on envelope development and strategic window positioning to maximize energy efficiency. My detailed research focused on the deepset window on the southern facade, where overlapping wood panels, custom cabinetry, and exterior seating are implemented. These elements not only enhance functionality but also highlight the window’s critical role in the home’s overall performance.

The Douglas Wellness Center is designed to embody growth and self-discovery, promoting vertical progression through a gradient facade system and tiered floor plans. The lower levels feature a dense facade that ensures privacy and separation from the street, creating a calm, secure environment for private spaces. As the building ascends, the design transitions to open, light-filled layouts, encouraging activity and interaction. The upper floors offer expansive views of the nearby park and riverfront, fostering a connection to nature and a sense of openness. This thoughtful design reflects the center’s mission to guide clients toward holistic wellness and personal development.
