Architecture + Interior Design

Firm Profile & Qualifications

Tampa, Florida USA

Ai Collaborative, Inc. (AiC Architecture) is an award winning, multi-disciplinary architectural firm originally incorporated in 1990 offering a full range of design services including commercial interior design. Centrally located in the historic Ybor City section of Tampa, AiC is capable of managing projects throughout the State of Florida and the Southeast due to our proximity to I-75, I-4 and the Tampa International Airport. AiC consistently ranks at the top of architectural and corporate interior design firms in the Tampa Bay Area. We have built our business by providing an unparalleled level of service to our clients, which is why 90 percent of our work is procured through repeat business or referrals.

Philosophy

Our core philosophy at AiC Architecture is to combine the disciplines of Architecture and Interior Design in a collaborative environment resulting in a superior product in terms of functionality, aesthetics and cost effectiveness. We have found that in projects produced by traditional architectural firms, often times the relationships and quality of the interior spaces is of secondary importance to the study of exterior architectural forms and massing. AiC places equal importance on the design of interior spaces and how their relationships affect the overall architectural design and experience. Our process of transdisciplinary problem solving utilizes architects, interior designers, engineers and input from the end user to shape the ideal projects for our clients. The principals of AiC Architecture maintain a personal, “hands on” style of management from project inception through completion thereby assuring a level of design consistency, control, and accountability.

Services

Architecture, Interior Design, Programming, Master Planning, Feasibility Studies, Space Planning, Interior Test-Fits, Construction Documentation, and Construction Administration. All drawings and work is produced using state-of-the-art architectural and design software capable of detailed 3D modeling studies, photo-realistic presentation renderings and 3D printing.

This “office of the future” was designed with Kforce’s hybrid business model in mind. At 25,000 SF, this new corporate headquarters is five times smaller than their previous space in Ybor. Employees are encouraged to use the office for team building, training, and collaborative projects, but day-to-day work is done remotely. Rather than a sea of cubicles with half-empty workstations, the space features group gathering zones as well as focus areas for individual work.

Their goal with this new space is to create the best environment for their people so they can “shape the leaders transforming tomorrow.”

The design features a rhythmic mix of enclosed conference rooms, private offices & open/ collaborative spaces organized along the main circulation path. Generous amounts of glass walls & horizontal sliding glass doors were utilized in the build-out. Description:

This healthcare software and services company recently relocated and opened their new headquarters & Client Experience Center (CXC) in the Arbor Shoreline office development. This project consisted of a complete ‘gut’ and interior remodel of an existing one-story office building constructed in the mid-1970’s featuring upgrades to the entire electro-mechanical systems, roof and construction new restrooms in all common areas.

The client desired a contemporary, quasiindustrial aesthetic with finishes and furniture selections that complement the mid-century modernist style of the exterior. It takes advantage of the large expanses of perimeter storefront glazing that brings natural light into the building’s interior and maximizes views of numerous grand oaks on three sides of the building.

The relatively low existing acoustical lay-in ceiling was removed to afford additional vertical height and volume. The exposed roof structure, new ductwork and conduit were painted white which further adds to the light and airy feel throughout. The intentionally cool, neutral color palette is augmented with custom wood paneling and veneers to add warm and welcoming counterpoints. Other office areas feature vibrant accent paint, carpet tiles and furnishings inspired by DeliverHealth Solutions’ logo and corporate colors.

This new office and headquarters further supports the client’s mission with a mix of private and collaborative workspaces, interactive training rooms, and market development offices, providing an immersive experience for their visiting customers. Also important is the ability to engage with clients virtually with their state-of-the-art audiovisual system that was integrated into the Client Experience Center to ensure their meetings run smoothly whether remote, in-person, or hybrid. The Client Experience Center features a curved, 24-foot-wide video wall, specialty lighting, and video cameras for support of teleconferencing and podcast productions.

DeliverHealth Solutions and their 2,600 employees worldwide strive to simplify healthcare management through innovative technology and services. This new facility promotes a more ‘hands-on’ marketing and product education experience for their clients and industry partners, offering them greater support and engagement as they collectively aim to solve healthcare industry and market challenges.

This project was planned, designed and constructed by local commercial real estate brokers, architect and interior designer, engineers, A/V and furniture vendors and contractor all working collaboratively with the client to produce an exceptional project.

The complete interior renovation and re-organization for this corporate headquarters project encompassed 140,000 SF spread throughout four floors of a Class A office building that the client occupied throughout the phased construction process. Our primary design goal was to integrate their stated “Key Values of Success” into the major elements of the interior renovation. Each component of the design was reviewed by Bloomin’ Brands internal design group and presented to the steering committee, which included the ownership group.

Advantec is a PEO that provides human resources and payroll services for small to medium sized companies throughout the Southeast region. Their new headquarters occupies the entire fifth floor of a Class A office building located in the Westshore area of Tampa. The overall design concept for the 31,000 square foot, full floor renovation was based on redefining Advantec’s corporate identity whereby the company’s “story” is conveyed by combining both literal and figurative architectural metaphors with a sophisticated palette of colors, textures, and carefully selected furnishings. The rollout of a new corporate logo and colors coincided with the design of the new facility and was incorporated into several areas included etched logos in the floor materials and graphics on the traning room wall.

Their new corporate offices are in the historic two-story El Pasaje building. The history of this former hotel includes housing immigrant cigar workers & Teddy Roosevelt’s “Rough Riders” during the Spanish-American War. Preserving many of the historic interior elements was of utmost importance. Areas of exposed brick, hardwood floors & wall paneling along with restored original stained glass window transoms were used to establish the main design aesthetic.

Renovation of the ground floor exterior entrance and the mezzanine exterior patio. The design takes inspiration from Tampa’s aviation history. The following summarizes our process that we followed to arrive at this end result.

Tampa Commons Exterior Entry & Patio Renovation Tampa Commons Building Exterior

Tampa is steeped in aviation history. Dale Mabry Highway was built to connect MacDill Air Force Base to Drew Army Airfield (current day Tampa International Airport). The first scheduled commercial flight was from St. Petersburg to Tampa on the St. Petersburg - Tampa Airboat Line. Piloted by Tony Jannus, the Flying Boat Biplane, Benoist XIV was constructed of wood & cables.

Most early aircraft flown by MacDill were of wood and fabric construction, for reasons of availability, low weight, and prior manufacturing experience. At the lower speeds then obtainable, streamlining was not a primary consideration, and many wires, struts, braces, and other devices were used to provide the necessary structural strength. Preferred woods were relatively light and strong (e.g., spruce), and fabrics were normally linen or something similarly close-weaved, not canvas as often stated.

Tampa Commons Exterior Entry & Patio Renovation Engaged Team Zone Communal Seating Area

Proposed Exterior Entrance

To activate the entrance at ground level, we propose creating an outdoor seating area near the cafe. By adding planters with colorful plants, building occupants can sit outdoors while feeling a sense of privacy. We would take inspiration from the aircrafts materials that our pilots flew & suspend a wood canopy by cables over the seating area with decorative lights. We would continue the aesthic & create a grand, cable suspended wood canopy over the main entrance, drawing people into the buillding.

Tampa Commons Exterior Entry & Patio Renovation

To activate the patio at the mezzanine level, we propose creating various outdoor seating configurations on the existing grass area. We would take inspiration from the materials of the aircrafts our pilots flew & stretch colorful canvas sails by cables over the seating area.

Constructed in 1908, the German American Club was once a symbol of Tampa’s discrimination; today it is a symbol of inclusion. The renovation and 15,000 SF addition to the historic 16,400 SF building in Ybor City now serves as the Tampa headquarters for Metro Inclusive Health and CAN Community Health. These nonprofits provide full-service healthcare with a focus on HIV, the LGBTQ community, the underinsured, and the uninsured.

The ground floor that once housed the building’s fitness center and indoor pool now services the community with offices, therapy rooms, and meeting spaces. A double-glazed clerestory system maintains the open feeling while providing both sound and visual privacy. The two-story grand theater space is now a multipurpose hall that acts as a training and conference center as well as a venue that can be rented for community fundraisers.

A new addition preserves the original building’s form, envelope, and massing while differentiating itself from the historic structure with the use of compatible materials, lines, details, scale, and proportion. This section sits further back on the site, allowing the original building to remain the dominant structure along Nebraska Avenue.

A glass connector provides a clear differentiation between the old and new and minimizes the physical impact to the historic building caused by the construction. It also provides the occupants with a new perspective of the historic façade. Details that were once diminished by the height of the building are now at eye level.

The original structure utilized precast concrete module block that, at the time of the building’s completion, was an uncommon construction method for the Ybor City Historic District. For the new addition, the exterior cladding utilizes a brick veneer mixed with white cast stone banding and water table that complements the original building and the neighborhood.

Description: The program for this project was simple: design a banquet hall that can hold 800+ people. The site constraints made the project challenging. The site already had an existing 14,000 SF building that the owner wanted to remodel and the building required storm water retention on all of the site. The solution to the water retention provided us with the opportunity to create a grand entry sequence for the banquet hall. We chose the lowest part of the site to build an underground storm water retention system. A structured parking deck over the storm water vault provided the foundation to build the banquet hall.
