The new Morrow High School replaces an aging, overcrowded and outdated facility with new state-of-the-art instructional and athletic facilities intended to celebrate the Morrow community’s pride in their diverse, vibrant culture. The new building responds to site constraints by re-thinking the traditional educational “box” with modern, inspiring and site-specific spaces. This Birmingham headquarters will introduce a new paradigm in workplace design that maximizes employee well-being by celebrating and preserving nature. Conceived as a deeply green “un-office,” the building is designed to be one with its natural context, fully imbedded in the dramatic existing topography and using a local material palette throughout. Two building “hillforms” stretch to meet one another over a ravine below.

Le Bon Nosh is a European-influenced cafe and market meant to encourage and showcase community gathering. The aroma of the coffee bar at the entrance sets the tone for the space. Inside, an active teaching kitchen anchors the center, flanked on one side by a market cafe with communal tables, and a formal, more intimate dining room with a wine bar on the other. The private dining area of the mezzanine is accented by hand-painted wallpaper and features a quiet balcony overlooking a side street. The entire space is wrapped with warm and carefully detailed wood storefronts. The design of Le Bon Nosh was a true collaboration between the entire design team working to execute the vision of the owner.

The La Croix House is a lighthearted partial renovation of a 1930’s urban single-family home, inspired by our client’s favorite sparkling water brand, her love for entertaining, traveling, and her cat Oates. While the result is intentionally playful, serious functional, structural, and ecological problems were resolved through an interdisciplinary collaboration, which prioritized a sense of place, site health and connection between interior and exterior spaces.

Nestled in the heart of Atlanta’s Old Fourth Ward, this classic 1920’s craftsman bungalow received a modern-style addition providing the homeowners with some much-needed space in which to retreat, to entertain, and to enjoy. The addition’s modern lines respond to the existing in scale and massing. From the start, the bungalow addition and renovation was respectful of the existing structure and character of the house and surrounding neighborhood. Foreseeing the family’s current and future needs, the spaces were scaled and organized in a way that would accommodate their daily needs for decades, while also providing flexibility for change.

A nondescript industrial building was carefully renovated into a compelling creative office and fabrication space. With a limited budget and short schedule of less than a year, the project focused on the selective removal of unnecessary elements in order to simplify the overall design and make the space a more efficient and inviting place to work. The design plays within the constraints of a pre-engineered metal building to make a space that is bright and uplifting. Such a careful renovation ultimately results in a nearly recognizable building that exemplifies the personality of the company.

First Presbyterian Church of Atlanta Atlanta, GA

Three years after Marthasville was renamed Atlanta in 1845, a small group of Presbyterians founded a church. 175 years later, the story of First Presbyterian Church parallels the story of Atlanta. Today, First Presbyterian is entwined in the daily life of Midtown Atlanta. The campus is a spiritual and civic hub and delivers essential services to the city’s most neglected. This work will improve the church’s functional operations as they move into their 3rd century of ministries. A new contemporary worship center and central gathering space addition will reshape the church’s physical presence to better reflect the radically hospitable and welcoming spirit.

The Metaphysical Museum of Reality, materializes the internet and virtualizes the natural world to create a new dimension where we can all genuinely connect, no matter our physical location. The architecture itself takes advantage of the gap between perception and reality, transcending what is possible in the physical world. Ultimately serving as an instrument to reflect on what the semantics of reality entail.

The primary design concept is to adore the sense of place and promote flexibility in design. The heart of the project lies in the outline of the form that plays on the concept of interior-exterior and on the desire to immerse the user in a unique environment. The design is placed into an open patch around the creek, which limits the consumption and processing techniques of the surroundings, a gesture of integrity to respect the original morphology and the flora and fauna of the region.

Derived from the innate purity of New Zealand’s landscape, the design for the World Expo Pavilion reflects the concept of isolation in contrast with invitation. The sunken mountains feed into the ground, reflected in the spheres blending into the reflection pond and supporting the concept of integration into the landscape. A pathway carving through the site encourages a journey through the country, emphasizing the dignity of the silver fern, the need for natural isolation, and an ode to Māori culture.

Fibonacci Nook is an outdoor pop-up library that allows architects to interrogate innovative ways of responding to the construction of architectural elements to suit user needs. Inspired by the work of Rem Koolhaas in Elements of Architecture, this project aims to reconstitute the typology of Wall as a living surface as a multi-faceted assemblage to respond to the programmatic needs: a book nook with seating and collaborative spaces. Derived from the Fibonacci curve and its proportions, the design is a component-based modular system for custom arrangements.

Foster Atlanta proposes independent housing for those who need a place to begin. A community and career center spark life in Midtown, while a marketplace sits as the steadfast foundation below. Flush with an existing station, public transport is reimagined.Atlanta is a powerhouse of capitalism defined by its communities. This architectural intervention seeks to strengthen the community by empowering the individual. This relationship is intricate…and necessary. The structural system throughout consists of simple timber connections–each piece reliant on the other to stand.

The proposal of the new community model is neither intended to restore or revive local traditional village models highly nor completely deny and go against the actual development status quo, to overthrow the existing government resettlement community model to carry out another reconstruction. The new community model is another development option that is more suitable for local conditions, and it is also a reflection and questioning of the village development strategy that the government has chosen. It will be an inherited and authentic community model.
