hat better way to commemorate the Danish Frømandskorpset (Frogman Corps) than with a unique rum whose nearly 200-year history is steeped in its connection with the Royal Danish Navy? It was in the Island’s capital of Charlotte Amelie that Albert Heinrich Riise first obtained a royal decree to operate a pharmacy, from which he produced both rum and bitter. These two were originally sold for medicinal purposes, before the production of rum saw it develop into the more recognisable drink it is today, when it began to be shipped back to Denmark. Not only were Danish naval ships responsible for protecting trading vessels sailing between the West Indies and Denmark that were carrying A.H. Riise’s rum

distilled on the island, but the sailors themselves also received a rum ration. On arrival in Denmark, A.H. Riise’s rum was subsequently aged in old oak barrels and stored securely under navy guard in Copenhagen. This remarkable rum is produced in very limited quantities, hand blended by our master distiller from a blend of up to 15 different cask rums aged anything from 7 up to 20 years. The Frogman Corps was established in 1957 and was inspired by the British Special Boat Service (SBS), America’s Underwater Demolition Teams (UDT and Navy SEALs), and the Norwegian Marine Hunters.
