Choosing Northwest Regional Heart & Vascular
Outstanding cardiovascular care requires more than just a visit and a procedure. That’s because your patients are more than just a symptom or condition. Each patient deserves whole-person care that brings compassion, expertise and experience to their body, mind and spirit.
Preventing and treating heart disease is the focus of all we do at the Northwest Regional Heart & Vascular Center in Portland. And we’re good at it. In fact, we’ve earned national recognition for the quality of our care. Our distinctions translate into the best-possible outcomes for our patients.
A regional network for more care

Our highly skilled team is passionate about the health and well-being of our patients and we have built a patientcentered culture focused on clinical quality and personalized care.

A relationship of trust
When you choose us, we recognize you’re placing your patient’s heart in our hands. To honor that sacred trust, we continually pursue the best evidence-based practice. This includes:
Today’s most advanced technology: From the latest in diagnostics, including echocardiography and nuclear cardiology, to an expanding heart program offering innovative catheter-based treatments like robot-assisted cardiovascular surgery, TAVR and WATCHMAN, our program emphasizes heart care customized for your patient’s specific needs and goals.
Customized care plans: Your patient’s lifestyle and goals matter, as well as their condition. That’s why our doctors work with them to craft a plan of care that meets them where they’re at — and where they want to be.

Exceptional surgery outcomes: From aneurysm repair and valve replacement to bypass surgery and surgical ablation to treat heart rhythm disorders, our surgical team uses today’s most advanced techniques — including minimally invasive, robotic cardiac surgery — with an exceptional track record of outstanding results.
Universal beds for your patient’s universal comfort: We were the first in the area to create a specialized cardiovascular unit in which patients stay in one place from admission through discharge. It’s an innovative design shown to improve clinical outcomes and reduce length of stay.
Certified cardiac rehab: Certified by the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACVPR), our 12-week cardiac rehab program of exercise, education, counseling and support will help you recover faster from a heart attack or surgery — and help prevent a future event.
Our services
When you refer to us, your patient becomes the center of a personalized treatment plan customized around their condition, goals and lifestyle. We evaluate their symptoms, diagnose their condition and find the most effective techniques for restoring their quality of life.
Our treatments are guided by a central goal: to get your patients back to the people and activities they love the most.
Diagnostic and preventive cardiology
Our cardiologists offer the best in diagnostic options and are committed to helping your patient adopt healthy lifestyles to prevent and improve heart conditions. The cardiology team offers:
• Cardiac rhythm monitoring
• Coronary angiograms
• CT imaging
• Echocardiogram and transesophageal echocardiogram (TEE)
• Exercise and pharmacologic stress testing
• Heart catheterization and right heart catheterization
• Nuclear imaging
Adventist Health and Northwest Regional Heart & Vascular recognized by U.S. News & World Report as a high performing hospital in 2022.

Interventional cardiology
With our state-of-the-art cardiac catheterization labs, we provide the latest in diagnostic testing and lifesaving interventional procedures to open blocked coronary arteries — in minutes. Our interventions include:
• Peripheral vascular percutaneous interventions
• Cardiogenic shock management
• Carotid endarterectomy and carotid stenting
• Coronary angioplasty and stenting
• Coronary Chronic Total Occlusions (CTO)
• Endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR)
• Mesenteric and renal artery stenting
• Transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR)

Electrophysiology
Northwest Regional Heart & Vascular offers extensive electrophysiology resources for diagnosing and treating heart rhythm disorders. While in our care, your patient will have access to some of the most experienced electrophysiologists in the state, whose specialties include:
• Atrial fibrillation (Afib)
• Atrial flutter
• Heart block
• Left bundle branch block (LBBB)
• Sinus node disease
• Supraventricular tachycardia (SVT)
• Ventricular tachycardia and PVCs
Our team provides a variety of services including:
• Cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT)
• Catheter ablation
• Electrophysiology study
• Implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD)
• Leadless pacemaker
• Left atrial appendage occlusion (“Watchman”)
• Permanent pacemaker implantation
Cardiac surgery
While more conservative options are always preferred, cardiac surgery is sometimes the best solution to your patient’s condition. Where possible and appropriate, we offer least-invasive, catheter-based procedures and minimally invasive, robotic-assisted surgery to lower your patient’s risk of infection and speed up their recovery.
Our surgeons have extensive experience and expertise in:

• Aortic surgeries
• Beating-heart surgery
• Coronary artery bypass graft (CABG)
• Maze procedure
• Minimally invasive cardiac surgery
• Robot-assisted cardiac surgery
• Septal resection
• Tumor excision
• Valve repair and replacement
Emergency heart and stroke care
Staffed by OHSU Health board-certified emergency medicine physicians, our ER is located at the crossroads of two interstates.
Due to our location, we receive about a third of heart attack cases in the metro area. We make worldclass STEMI care accessible to east Multnomah County, east Portland, much of Clackamas County and the greater metro area. Our state-of-the-art catheterization lab is located adjacent to the ER to speed door-to-device times.
Vascular surgery and endovascular services
Our vascular surgeons work with blood vessels all over the body, except the brain and heart. When possible, we work with your patients to manage their vascular disease with nonsurgical options like lifestyle changes and medication.
When more severe conditions require vascular surgery, our interventions and procedures include:
• Aortic aneurysm repair, including minimally invasive endovascular repair (EVAR)
• Carotid endarterectomy and carotid stenting
• Mesenteric and renal artery stenting
• Bypass surgery
• Peripheral vascular percutaneous interventions (PAD, PVD)
Cardiac rehab
Research shows patients who complete cardiac rehab dramatically reduce their risk of death and heart attack.
You and your patient will be glad to know that Northwest Regional Heart & Vascular offers a comprehensive, nationally certified cardiac rehabilitation program.

Our 12-week cardiac rehab program is open to patients who have had or have:
• Congestive heart failure
• Coronary artery disease (CAD)
• Heart valve disease
• Peripheral arterial disease (PAD)
• Recent angioplasty or stent placement
• Recent heart attack
• Recent heart surgery
• Stable angina (chest pain)

Choosing experience
As a professor emeritus of public health at Oregon State University, Dr. Raymond Tricker is well-experienced in research. He turned that passion to learning about his need for heart valve surgery and how best to treat it. His research led him to Northwest Regional Heart & Vascular’s Dr. Thomas Molloy, MD, who has performed thousands of heart valve surgeries. His experience impressed Ray, who scheduled a visit with Dr. Molloy. Dr. Molloy was happy to work through all of Ray’s questions. “Never did I ever feel I was wasting anyone’s time,” Ray says. Ray’s surgery with Dr. Molloy was a success. In just three days, he left the hospital and headed home. Today, Ray wants other heart patients to know they have the same choice. “They have options,” he says. “By virtue of my training in public health, I’m a strong advocate of that.”
