Finding New Hair Replacement Clients

By Sara Micallef & Rebekah Lakies, Project Hair Co, Novi, MI

Starting a new hair replacement salon without a full book of clients can be intimidating. It was for Project Hair Co! Back in 2022, Project Hair Co spread its wings and just three years later we are so busy that we are looking at adding in a third stylist. How did we go from zero to fully booked?

An Eye-catching Website

Our website, www.projecthairco. com, was self-created on GoDaddy. The website builder is easy to use and easily customizable.

Social Media Accounts

Before creating Project Hair Co, the founder didn’t even have an Instagram! We had to learn how to use all social media platforms, hashtags, keywords, and content creation. Video editing, consistent posts with local hashtags, and content ideas became a second job!

Website Optimization

This is a service GoDaddy, our website platform, did for us and it was worth every penny! They use back channels to connect your website to reputable websites so that you gain clout on the search engines. New clients started flooding in after doing this! The absolute most valuable action we have taken is making fun and informative videos for our social media. We get our ideas by watching other hairstylists’ videos and recreating them to fit hair replacement. Also, when we have challenges with clients, we turn those into opportunities to make a video on topics to help manage client expectations before they even get to our chair. We create content based around what our clients tell us is their favorite part of the service or how life-changing it has been for them.

In addition to videos, we post our Google reviews on social media. We have found those posts are just what some clients need to pull the trigger and get hair. They see the words of others that absolutely love the result.

We have no viral social media accounts, nor do we do any paid ads, but still, we are so busy. We get around five new consultations per week, and they just keep coming!

It has always been difficult to get clients to go on camera due to wanting to protect their privacy. We have gathered model clients by putting a section on our website for a Model Call. We provide the hair and do the first cut-in at no charge in exchange for video and photo content for our social media. We have been so surprised how many clients are more than willing to do footage! For one of our most comfortable clients that is great on camera, we continue to give discounts at each cut-in because the videos are so valuable in bringing in new clients.
