9,000 Pounds of Material Shredded 200 Community Members Served
An "Intergenerational Chat" was hosted on Saturday, March 19, 2022. The event was held both in person and virtually and sorors learned poems, songs and chants.
There were 12 sorors who attended in person and 19 participated online.
The Ivy Hill: HomeKoming Edition was presented by the Membership and Sisterly Relations Committees with a goal of engaging sorors from Sigma Tau Omega and neighboring chapters, as well as inactive sorors.
The event was attended by 120 STO members, 65 guest sorors and 10 inactive sorors. Of the inactive sorors, seven have reactiveated with STO.

Sigma Tau Omega provided $2,000 to The Hope Center at Pullen. The organization empowers emerging adults who are transitioning out of foster care in Wake County with the support and connections needed for a safe and stable adulthood.
The chapter provided $1,500 in the form of items and monetary donations to the Ronald McDonald House of Durham & Wake Inc.
Soror Andrea Owens-Byrd has leadership experience that spans three decades of uninterrupted service in Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated and a stellar professional career in Banking, Soror Owens-Byrd has been the model of poise under extreme pressure. She has led our chapter through the most challenging time in recent American history, all while helping us grow exponentially in membership and keeping the thread of sisterhood woven throughout our virtual and in-person encounters.
Since joining Sigma Tau Omega in 2010, her impact has been remarkable. She immediately began serving as Tamiouchos and has held office or chairmanships every year since. Soror Andrea works hard in Alpha Kappa Alpha and beyond, including holding previous Chapter and Regional leadership roles in other international organizations. She has built a 25+ year banking career and is currently a Vice President with Truist Bank.
Soror Ayana Simon was initiated in the Nu Rho Chapter at the University of North Carolina Greensboro in 2003. She joined Sigma Tau Omega in 2013 and hit the ground running earning her the recognition of New Soror of the Year in 2015. She has continued to show exemplary service and most importantly this year in her role as Anti-Basileus chairing the Program Committee and as a member of the Publicity and Fundraising Committees.
Soror Ayana has organized and elevated chapter program initiatives. She introduced new partnerships for new programming and even took a few of our favorites and enhanced them. She shares her creative and innovative mind in our branding and marketing with beautiful flyers and videos representative of our Alpha Kappa Alpha brand. Her end to end vision has elevated internal reporting with an effective use of digital tools capturing event highlights while reducing the amount of time in chapter meetings.
The chapters’ program success this year speaks to her leadership as well as her personality. She has a kind sisterly spirit and sense of humor that motivates sorors to participate. She is able to effectively communicate across generations within the chapter and community. The supporting documentation provided reflects her hard work for our community, chapter and sorors. Soror Ayana Simon has shown exemplary work and is a TRAILBLAZER who has contributed to elevating the Sigma Tau Omega Chapter.
