President, Sigma Tau Omega Chapter

Soror Andrea Owens-Byrd has leadership experience that spans three decades of uninterrupted service in Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated and a stellar professional career in Banking, Soror Owens-Byrd has been the model of poise under extreme pressure. She has led our chapter through the most challenging time in recent American history, all while helping us grow exponentially in membership and keeping the thread of sisterhood woven throughout our virtual and in-person encounters.

Since joining Sigma Tau Omega in 2010, her impact has been remarkable. She immediately began serving as Tamiouchos and has held office or chairmanships every year since. Soror Andrea works hard in Alpha Kappa Alpha and beyond, including holding previous Chapter and Regional leadership roles in other international organizations. She has built a 25+ year banking career and is currently a Vice President with Truist Bank.

Anti-Basileus, Sigma Tau ChapterOmega

Soror Ayana Simon was initiated in the Nu Rho Chapter at the University of North Carolina Greensboro in 2003. She joined Sigma Tau Omega in 2013 and hit the ground running earning her the recognition of New Soror of the Year in 2015. She has continued to show exemplary service and most importantly this year in her role as Anti-Basileus chairing the Program Committee and as a member of the Publicity and Fundraising Committees.

Soror Ayana has organized and elevated chapter program initiatives. She introduced new partnerships for new programming and even took a few of our favorites and enhanced them. She shares her creative and innovative mind in our branding and marketing with beautiful flyers and videos representative of our Alpha Kappa Alpha brand. Her end to end vision has elevated internal reporting with an effective use of digital tools capturing event highlights while reducing the amount of time in chapter meetings.

The chapters’ program success this year speaks to her leadership as well as her personality. She has a kind sisterly spirit and sense of humor that motivates sorors to participate. She is able to effectively communicate across generations within the chapter and community. The supporting documentation provided reflects her hard work for our community, chapter and sorors. Soror Ayana Simon has shown exemplary work and is a TRAILBLAZER who has contributed to elevating the Sigma Tau Omega Chapter.
