KAMIL MULLASHEV

530 West 25th Street, New York, NY

Kamil Mullashev is an oil painter living and working in Kazakhstan. He earned a degree from the Russian Academy of Art, where he received rigorous academic training. Studying the work of the Old Masters in museums around the world and experimenting with a variety of styles, Mullashev developed extraordinary versatility, encompassing realism, surrealism, modernism, symbolism, and abstraction. The representation and perception of time is a central theme in the artist’s work, both as a personal investigation into the nature of the temporal dimension and as a reflection on the current events of his era. Listen to the Voice of Time, for example, is an ardent protest against the inhumane invasion of Ukraine by the Russians, while other works offer a more existential perspective. In Triptych Flight in Time the artist casts a critical eye on how the digital age has changed our perception of time and the challenges of preserving our human qualities. We have access to an infinite amount of information, where people seem to have lost their bearings, finding themselves in weightlessness. In his most recent series, Creator, Energy, and Absolute Darkness, he seeks to capture spatial and temporal infinity, as a progression from total emptiness to creation to energy. Gradually transitioning from realistic figuration, Mullashev wishes to further his exploration of philosophical reflections on the nature of life, time, and space through an increasingly abstract aesthetic.

Mullashev is a member of the Union of Artists of the USSR, the Union of Artists of Kazakhstan, the Academy of Art of Chinese National Painting of the XUAR of the People’s Republic of China, and an honorary member of the Academy of Arts of Russia. Prizes and accolades include a silver medal from the Academy of Arts of France, the title of Honorary Professor of the Kahn-Shan Pedagogical Institute of the city of ChaoZhao and the University of Shan-Tao, and the title of People’s Artist of the Republic of Tatarstan. He has exhibited extensively in Kazakhstan, Europe, and China.

My work stems from an initial idea. It can start with a simple drawing and immediately find its solution on the canvas, or through repeated searches in drawing and color. Sometimes an almost painted picture can be rewritten for expressiveness. I use different materials, but I prefer to start with acrylics and finish with oil paints to add further depth.

Throughout my creative life, I have tried to express the image of time, as experienced at a given period of my life. The world has become a unified space, where everyone knows what happens globally at any given moment. As a result, I am fascinated by global issues that spur philosophical questions and reflections on the future of mankind.
