UNDERSTAND, KNOW, VALORIZE Palazzo Cattoli Montiano (FC), Italy University 2014/2015 Restoration’s Master Thesis Autocad, Revit, Rhinoceros, Photoshop

The project concerns a historic building in the Cesena’s hills. Built at the beginning of the XVII century it underwent enlargements and modifications in the XVIII and XIX century to become a real example of a noble palace inserted in a rural context. The project is based on the understanding, respect and valorisation of the Palace, with the ultimate goal of guaranteeing a future use that is compatible with historical-artistic interests and, at the same time, linked to current situation. The analysis of the material consistency is at the base of the building knowledge; understanding the materials used, the methods of installation and the construction techniques will help the conservative analysis and then propose appropriate solutions that do not go to erase the historical identity of the building. What distinguishes and gives value to the artifact is the presence of wall paintings, which cover the rooms of the noble floors.The interventions on the artifact are aimed at preserving the existing and increasing, within the limits imposed by it, its performance capabilities. The starting point in this perspective is therefore the artifact itself, its characteristics and not a specific intended use the balance between the “costs”, in terms of economic and material sacrifice, and the attractiveness, understood as the presence of an active market, was assessed. Lastly the project idea was compared with the possibility of providing the building with more functions in order to make it fully usable.

Cracking Framework |

SHORT INTERMEDIATE VERTICAL TRANSLATION The lesions aren’t passing through, they are split in different cracking branches in correspondence with the streets of least resistance (weaker wall areas) due to the excessive load transmitted by the covering to the masonry wall.

PRINCIPLE OF VERTICAL TRANSLATION TERMINAL Several continuous cracking branches passing through a bottom subsidence which led to a rotational movement and a horizontal translation.

INSTABILITY OF THE ANGLE AND FLEXURE Vertical cracking with a single branch along the walls corner caused by a failure due to the slippage of the ground and cracking not passing through a single branch along the entire façade in proximity of a connection between walls, due to the thrust of one on the other.

In this project the study took place on a large scale, the indexes and the urban planning standards of the pertinent area were examined and a residential and commercial area was conceived in order to be easily accessed through driveways and pedestrian paths, both available at any time thanks to the connections with the surrounding area.

The project concerns the redevelopment of a former sugar refinery in the town of Forlipopoli into a purely residential area. The study has involved a system of housing of various kinds that communicate with each other and with the context, trying to keep all the spaces accessible and well connected both pedestrian and vehicular. The comparison was divided between terraced houses, stair-step buildings and internal balconies, studying the internal layout of the rooms and their best location in relation to the surroundings.

AUDITORIUM & URBAN REGENERATION Auditorium Bologna (BO), Italy University 2013/2014 Design Autocad, Revit, Photoshop

The topic of study includes the redevelopment of a former barracks in Bologna and the design and the study of an auditorium. The structure of the designed area is the result of an overlap of different layers, such as the main routes, the urban fabric, the existing green, which are a reinterpretation of the Koolhaas study. We have increase the theme of the layers with the study of the actual state of the area, analyzing: the preexistences, specifically their architectural quality, functional transformability and conservation status. We have identified the built, memory and green areas that characterize the area, identifying a Boulevard and a Promenade that cut them but at the same time they connect them; The study of the Auditorium, on the other hand, starts from the Basque sculptor thought, Jorge Oteiza and his subsequent realization in the cuboid Malevich. Indeed, the actual auditorium can only be reached by a different access, and it is not visible from the outside; it is a sculpture in which art lives protected by a semi-transparent envelope.

SAN POSSIDONIO VILLA Restoration and reconstruction of the buildings after the 2012 earthquake in Emilia. Office Work 2016/2018 collaboration with Studio De Gregori Architetto Autocad, Revit, Rhinoceros, Photoshop

This project concerns the survey and reconstruction of a rural building used for housing and storage, affected by significant and evident injuries following the earthquake of Emilia in 2012, classifying with an operating level E3. The project took into account the regulations and Regional Ordinances, as it was under concession of the Govern and through the study of the existing, a new project was developed that respected the requisites. For the planning application, appropriate written and planning documentation was drafted.

The project consists in the survey, demolition and new construction of a rural building used as a dwelling and storage area, damaged by the seismic events of 2012. In addition to the initial project, the site management was followed and the application was presented to the municipality concerned. The outdoor area with its own fencing, garage and private greenery has also been designed.

The project concerns an extraordinary maintenance intervention for the local repair and strengthening of the damage sustained by the building following the earthquake in Emilia in 2012, and the construction of a garage after the demolition of the existing building also affected by injuries following the earthquake. At first the survey of the entire building was made both for the actual state, and for recognizing and mapping the injuries and fragility, afterwards the appropriate interventions were deferred until the completion of the works.

SUSTAINABLE DESIGN PROJECT Production establishment Development of the project proposal Italy Office Work 2017/2018 collaboration with Studio De Gregori Architetto Autocad, Revit, Rhinoceros, Photoshop

The project involves the construction of an ice cream production plant and a conference hall with a low environmental impact. We have considered the orientation and structure of the building, with an inclined and south-facing solar panel covering; the green that gives a visual comfort, improves the healthiness of the air and, becoming the enclosure of the domed hall, it has characteristics of thermal-acoustic insulation, protection from sunlight preserving a low temperature range. Furthermore, the presence of an artificial lake allows an always constant and pleasant internal temperature.

Giudizio sull’attività svolta dalla studentessa Agnese BOLDRINI matr. 0000604835 Vista l’attività svolta in questi mesi presso lo studio SANZIO CASTAGNOLI a Cesena si rileva che la studentessa ha potuto confrontarsi con alcune delle problematiche proprie della professione di architetto: dalla redazione del progetto di architettura, alla ricerca finalizzata al progetto, alla sua gestione compreso il difficile rapporto con la clientela, sia essa pubblica che privata. Durante questo periodo di tirocinio la Boldrini ha lavorato alla redazione di un progetto di adeguamento di riqualificazione di una ex fabbrica di tabacco nel comune di Gambettola (FC) ed in particolare all’ampliamento di un parcheggio già esistente nel complesso oggetto di intervento. Questo ha consentito all’allieva di confrontarsi con metodologie progettuali diverse da quelle adottate in questa scuola consentendole così di rafforzare il senso critico sulle dinamiche di progetto e di gestione dello stesso. Alla luce di quanto esposto, all’indomani di un recente confronto con la studentessa ed il suo referente presso lo studio di tirocinio ritengo doveroso esprimere parere pienamente positivo sull’attività svolta rilevando, per altro, una maturazione della tirocinante in relazione ai modi di affrontare il progetto di architettura.
