Albania of the XX century, in the back light of the complex political history of a country that, like few others, was crossing point of strife and conflict. The main focus of this dissertation is to try and situate the develop-ment of the city of Tirana within the political context of the country during the period of time between 1929-1945. In order to reach a thorough understanding of the relevance of the political instability in the architectur-al history of the country, it is necessary to have a fair knowledge of the political history of the country. Albania has been through dramatic political changes in a relatively short period of time, which have had strong effects on the social, cultural and architectural development of the country.
