What is bis registration ?

 Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS):- The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) Registration ensures the quality, safety, and reliability of products in the Indian market.

Purpose:-

1. Ensures product quality and consumer safety.

2. Mandatory for certain products under Indian law.

 Applicability: Required for both domestic manufacturers and importers for certain categories of products.

1. Covers diverse industries like electronics, construction materials, toys, chemicals, and more.

Step 1 – Identify Product Category

 Research Requirements: Identify whether your product is on the list of mandatory BIS registration categories.

 Examples of Products:-

1. Electronics: Mobile phones, power banks, LED lights, etc.

2. Household Items: Pressure cookers, electric irons.

3. Industrial Goods: Steel products, cement.

4. Toys: Toys for children under 14 years must comply with BIS safety standards.

Step 2 – Prepare Required Documents

1. Office Documents:

 Proof of office name and address

 Certificate from the Registrar of Firms or Directorate of Industries, or Industries Centre, or Memorandum of Articles

2. Factory Documents:

 Proof of factory name and address

 Certificate from the Registrar of Firms, Directorate of Industries, or Industries Centre, or Memorandum of Articles

 Valid lease deed showing firm’s occupancy over the premises (if applicable)

 Valid MSME certificate (if applicable

3. Authorized Representative:

 A letter from the authorized representative (if signed by someone other than the CEO)

4. Manufacturing Details:

 Manufacturing process flow chart

 List of manufacturing machinery  Information on any outsourced manufacturing operations

5. Testing & Equipment

 List of Testing Equipment

 Third-party Laboratory Test Reports (as per Indian Standards, if applicable)

 Calibration Certificates (NABL approved, if available)

 In-house Testing Reports

6. Factory Layout

 Layout Plan indicating the office, lab, storage, production, and finished goods areas.

7. Raw Materials

 Test Certificates for each raw material.

Step 3 – Product Testing

1. Testing Requirements: Compliance with Indian Standards (IS) for quality, safety, and performance.

2. Laboratory Selection: Choose a BIS-recognized laboratory for testing.

3. Testing Process:

 Submit product samples.

 Lab evaluates against relevant Indian Standards (IS).

Obtain Test Report: Ensure the report complies with BIS requirements.
