Taking a Photograph CCDN 231

By Adrienne Otto

Britt Britt has a cell phone which she keeps with her at all times like any teenage girl. She uses her cell phone to take pictures. Britts sound observations- there is a definite click when she press any of the buttons - as her phone is on silent there was no shutter sound, but if sound was on there would be. - there is a click when she zoom in or out. Britt's touch observations -phone is light - plastic feeling. - a few scratches

Arionne Arionne has an I phone, he uses it regularly to take photos, he captures moments easily. Arionnes sound observations -as it is a touch screen you get a light tap when pressing the button to take picture. -Arionnes phone has a shutter sound though it is very quiet. Arionnes observations touch-his phone has a cover, of plastic. -the screen is cold -but the phone is familiar. - and light

Hannah Hannah also has an I phone, she uses it regularly, mainly for face book and games and communicating with her friends. Hannah's observations sound - as the I phone was on silent there was just the light tap of the screen, no other sounds Hannah's observations touch - her i phone has a plastic case so it feels like plastic. - her screen is also cold, and scratch free. -light -familiar

Joy Joy also when taking pictures uses her cell phone on the go, though she also has a digital camera, she sometimes doesn't take it with her so she on this day had her cell phone Joys sound observations- this mobile has buttons, when taking pictures etc, the bottoms have a clicking sound. Joys observations touch her cell phone has a softer plastic feel, not as cold and plastic like. also because it is also light it is easier for her to keep it at hand throughout the day

Kurt Kurt has invested in an I pad 2. he always has his I pad with him, he has used it to capture all his memories, he has filled it with pictures of his new family (wife and baby son) Kurt's observations sound-again there was no sound as his i pad is a touch screen you do however her a tapping sound as your finger taps against the screen. kurt's observations feelhis i pad has a case but when he wants to take pictures he takes it out of the case, it has a metal back, which makes the back cold, his screen is also cold. he is familiar with the large i pad but he is used to it making it a lot less awkward than what it seems.

Anonymous this lady didn't want to be named, she also wanted her face to be blurred out. her observations soundshe has a cheaper phone which she takes pictures with, though the camera isn't good it's better than nothing. there are loud button presses no shutter sound observations feel- her phones light small and plastic. there is a large amount of resistance with buttons

My Observations A lot more people use cell phones than I had previously expected, this is more because it is easier to have it with them, the people with the more expensive phones use it more than others, this may be down to the fact that taking good quality pictures. though Kurt used an I Pad, he found this was easier, he used it for everything from emails to taking pictures, since he now has a young baby son this machine works very well for documenting his son growing up. With today's world a lot of the cell phones and technology have touch screens this means there are even fewer sounds when it comes to taking a picture. though unfortunately all the people I interviewed had their shutters sound off. this meant I was unable to record that sound. All the people photographed take pictures fairly regularly on their separate devices. Because of the direction where technology has been going we have less buttons and more touch screens making less sounds. but because people are getting more accessible technologies most people don't carry an individual camera around but actually just use their cell phone. Because I observed people with their own photo taking devices they were a lot more open to be interviewed and viewed, I had issues previously finding people who were fine being viewed taking photos with my camera. though When my previous images became corrupt I had to do a big re think to get this in by the due date. This I believe is because they were still left in their comfort zones. If i was to redo this project and had more time without all the delays I have been overwhelmed with this semester I would have been able to go out and interview more people. I would have liked to get someone who used a DSLR camera but unfortunately everyone I asked with one said no to be interviewed. I believe this is because people who take pictures sometimes don't want to be in pictures. I have put together a few props which produce the sounds that were present when I was interviewing and observing.
