ANNA POP

Project Engineer | T.B. Penick & Sons

This program has been a great platform to build my work processes and confidence off of. I came from a very limited construction background, and now I work for a company doing mainly grading so I have not been able to experience many aspects of our industry. This class has helped shed some light on things I would not have thought about previously, and has given me the frame of reference to ask better questions of my team and myself. I would recommend this course for anyone interested in project management or just needing to fresh perspective on our industry.

Building Information Modeling

(4 units; 32 hours):

Building Information Modeling (BIM) is changing the way projects are constructed. Whether you are a prime contractor using BIM across an entire project or a subcontractor impacted by a specific BIM implementation, this emerging practice requires new mindsets and technological know-how in order to achieve significant improvements in efficiency and cost control.

AGC’s BIM Education Program — developed in conjunction with leading BIM practitioners, technology firms, and educators — is designed to prepare construction professionals at all experience levels to successfully implement BIM on a construction project.

Lean Construction

(7 units; 35 hours):

Everyone related to the construction process has an incentive to get the project done faster and at a lower cost — from the project owners who want to see results for their investment to the contractors and designers who want to do their job well and move on to the next project. Lean Construction is based on the holistic pursuit of continuous improvements aimed at minimizing costs and maximizing value on a construction project: planning, design, construction, activation, operations, maintenance, salvaging, and recycling.

To help contractors develop the knowledge needed to build Lean, the Associated General Contractors of America developed the Lean Construction Education Program (LCEP). Construction professionals at all experience levels will learn the building blocks necessary Training with AGC to transform their projects and companies into a Lean Operating System.

Project Management Development (5

units; 80 hours): The Project Manager Development Program (PMDP) is for early-career project managers or those looking to move into such a role. It is a five-course program that covers the essentials of project management and provides a solid foundation for long-term career development. Each unit is around 16 hours of content, making the 5-course program around 80 hours of instruction. The curriculum is offered at many of AGC’s chapters nationwide or can be brought in-house to construction firms and educational institutions in order to teach a new generation of project managers the essential skills to ensure project success.

PMDP participants are likely to have various titles depending on the kind of work they perform, the geographical location of their projects, and the size of their company. They may have titles such as assistant project manager, project manager, field engineer, project engineer, project administrator, etc. They may have experience as estimators, field personnel, project assistants, or office managers, and they may work in the heavy and highway sector, the commercial building sector, or in residential construction. They will most likely be early in their careers, have some posthigh-school education, and less than two years of projectrelated experience.

Construction Supervision Fundamentals (1

unit; 25 hours)

Introductory, on-boarding: The CSF course is designed for aspiring front line leaders who are looking to learn the entry-level management skills to lead construction activities. This course is the first step in the path to develop construction supervisors. This interactive course allows the building trades and craft workers to experience construction supervision techniques firsthand and create a professional development plan to achieve personal career goals.

CONSTRUCTION ENGINEER & SITE MANAGEMENT ACCELERATOR

Microsoft Project for Site Engineers | AutoCAD Civil 3D | SketchUp for Site Teams | Bluebeam for Construction Markups Class Format: On-Demand, you learn at your own pace

Content Hours: 12

Course Overview

Our Flagship Course Bundle provides an immersive learning experience focused on the essential, industry-standard tools used by Tier 1 contractors. Students can learn at their own pace while developing real-world competencies in site planning, project scheduling, and design collaboration.

Modules include:

1. Microsoft Project for Site Engineers – critical path mastery & real project scheduling

The methods, structures and templates we currently use on multi $Million projects. We will be teaching this from scratch how to build to programs as per current industry standard, proven and tested for head contractor programs as well as hints and tips. This isn’t taught anywhere else.

2. AutoCAD Civil 3D – plans, set-outs, and site design workflows

Now this isn’t a design course but there is some key and basic concepts we teach in here that help construction engineers leverage to help them streamline their project delivery. We teach them how to geo-reference & import maps into the AutoCAD model to use as a base map for their actual site layouts and planning. The map will be imported and be all to scale so you can use to accurately sketch on and dimension all to scale. We also teach some basic design files overlays and example of a Design Vs Existing services clash analyses and how to work through that and package up ready for a RFI to the client.

3. SketchUp for Site Teams – bring your site to life with 3D communication tools

Now this is where the software integration starts. We have selected the modules in this order because the AutoCAD model we build in Module 2 in a 2D environment we then import into SketchUp and create 3D models all to scale. This is great for visualisations to assist in site planning, critical high risk work fronts methodologies, presentations to the client and internally. Now not a lot of engineers are familiar with this and the way we teach it integrating the software packages for real life construction engineering projects is not done anywhere that we’ve found.

4. Bluebeam for Construction Markups – the modern digital skill every engineer needs

This is a very powerful PDF editor and great for the construction engineering field. We teach all the key tricks and tips on how to leverage this software and again integrate it with the AutoCAD & SketchUp 3D software. We have planned the modules this way for a reason. We provide the students some drawing templates they can use to import the 3D images and begin to mark-up and annotate to provide context and instructions to end user relating to the buildability of for example a High Risk work front. The course integrates these software packages that no-one else is doing and the students completing this course will 100% stand out from the rest of the crowd when they can deliver this type of quality work. Construction goes pear shaped when it’s not planned properly and these tools give the students

“Built by Engineers. For Engineers.” Students leave this course Field Ready — equipped with practical digital skills that give them a real edge in graduate roles.
