ABOUT HMCT DEPARTMENT

The Department of Hotel Management & Catering Technology is fully leveraged with the highly-equipped labs to impart the best of practical as well as theoretical knowledge among the students. These labs include Basic Training Kitchen Lab, Quantity Food Kitchen Lab, Advance Training Kitchen Lab, Computer Lab and a few more.

To provide the best of its practice, the college offers two degrees of 4 academic years comprising of 8 semesters in which the students who have passed 10+2 (in any stream) are eligible to take admission. For Master’s degree, which is of 2 academic years (or 4 semesters) one must have completed his/her graduation either in B. Sc. Hotel Management & Catering Technology or in B. Voc. (HMCT).

ACET SWAGATAM The Department of Hotel Management & Catering Technology, AGC has its own restaurant named as ACET Swagatam for the HMCT students for their practical knowledge to be captured herein the restaurant. Being inaugurated by Mrs. Ragini Sharma (Director- Finance, AGC) it has the motive to provide the practical exposure to the students and make them lucratively employable in Indian vicinity & abroad.

ACET BAKE STUDIO

ACET Bake Studio, La Maison is said to be a new feather in the ever glowing crown of Amritsar Group of Colleges. The Department of Hotel Management has set out this venture for furnishing greater exposure in the related field to the students of this department. The Bakery Shop was inaugurated by the Chief Guest of the ceremony i.e.

Mr. Rajesh Lamba, Chairman & Managing Director of a renowned brand of India i.e. Babaji Namkeen. Respected Madam Ragini Sharma (Director Finance, AGC) Dr. Rajneesh Arora (Managing Director, AGC) & Dr. Vijay Kumar Banga (Principal, ACET) along with other honorable dignitaries of AGC illuminated the inaugural ceremony with their presence.

EVENTS & CHEF DAY CELEBRATIONS

Incorporating the theme “Food for Growing Up”, AGC celebrated the International Chefs Day at AGC Campus with a great zeal and enthusiasm. The students of Hotel Management & Catering Technology, in the graceful looks of the chefs attended the Annual Chefs Parade in the campus. Afterwards they took an Oath for becoming a well and noble towards their profession in the upcoming days, also they vowed to uphold the professional dignity and will show their gratitude and responsibility towards the society.

The esteemed Chefs, Chef Arundeep Singh, Chef Drishti Nanda and

Chef Jyoti Arora embellished up the event with their presence and motivated the students towards having and making healthy diets that comprises of nutritional and nourishing properties.

NATIONAL MILLET FEST 2019

The Department of Hotel Management prefabricated the delicious cuisines in the First National Millet Fest 2019 that was organized at AGC, by the Organic Agro Farm. In this event, a healthy meal buffet was prepared by a renowned Chef Ram Babu from Hyderabad, who is popular for creating spectacular dishes using millets.

CAKE MIXING CEREMONY

Cake mixing is the event when all the ingredients of festive fruit cake are marinated together with wine and liquor one month before Christmas and then on the occasion, is distributed among all the friends, family & relatives. The history of this engrossing Ceremony of Cake Mixing dates back to the 17th century, and it also marked the arrival of the harvest season. Such a graceful event was organized at Amritsar Group of Colleges by the Department of Hotel Management under ACET naming it “Cake Mixing Ceremony”.

Number of dignitaries from various schools of Amritsar city marked their presence in the ceremony and participated in the event graciously. All were warmly welcomed with the traditional welcoming ceremony of AGC and after that, they assorted the ingredients of the fruit cake like Mixed Peels, Prunes, Brown Sugar and a lot more in which they also added wine and liquor up to some extent. The guests were honored with mementos by the college dignitaries in the end of the event.

ACTIVITIES ACETians from HMCT Department have made us all proud by winning 2 Gold Medals in a National Level Competition i.e. Chef Competition & Mehandi Competition, organized by Maharishi Markandeshwar University, Mullana (Ambala). o augment the students' characteristics, the Department of Hotel Management & Catering Technology organized a Mehandi Competition at AGC campus.

Such competitions, for students, give an inner pleasure and an ability to show case their extra ordinary skills, regardless of academics.

Rangoli Competition, under the “Orientation Programme” has been organized by the Department of Hotel Management and Catering Technology.

AGC organizes Orientation Programmes for the first-year students of all the courses, for their personality development and for inspiring them to show case their creativity and innovativeness through various interesting activities.

Our students of Hotel Management Department attended the CAFR (Chefs Association of Five Rivers) organized by 3rd Chefs Conclave & Food Awards 2018 under the aegis of Chitkara University, Chandigarh. In this annual event, over 700 chefs from across the country marked their presence.

ACET Amritsar organized a workshop for the students of Department of Hotel Management on Bakery CAKE AND BAKE TRIMMING in which renowned Chef Vinod Polka gave the students the needy tips and tricks for baking of cakes, breads and pastry with undisputed knowledge to the student of Icing and cake decorations .

MOUs & AGREEMENTS AGC has signed MOUs with various hotels & restaurants that will allow its students in working for them as interns or getting placed after completing their degrees at AGC. Here are some of the renowned restaurants with which AGC possesses the MOUs:

To impart the quality education among AGCians, the college makes consistent efforts and along with this, for the after graduation employment opportunities for HMCTians, the college has signed MOU with Lemon Tree that will be a turning point in a graduate’s life.

AGC announces that it has inked MOU with Golden Sarovar Portico, Amritsar for extending the chances of employability of the students of Hotel Management and Catering Technology after the successful completion of their degrees at AGC.

The college has signed an MoU with Humble Una, Amritsar to foster Industrial Training to the students of the Department of Hotel Management and Catering Technology.

INTERNATIONAL COLLABORATION The college has established tie-ups by signing agreements and sharing Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with various international universities to offer study programs that would help the students and faculty gain international perspectives in their chosen field of study. Such collaborations generate an opportunity for students and faculty exchange amongst universities.

Our office of International Affairs is headed by a team of dedicated staff and supported by the advisory council.

Moreover, having international collaborations with a few of the top universities in abroad, AGC lets its students of almost all streams, either it is engineering, medical, management or others, to complete their further years of study in the foreign countries after studying one or more years at AGC.

Mr. Ujjwalpreet Singh, the student of BHMCT, after completing 2 years at AGC, has been selected under 2+2 program by the Canadian University.

With the mission to provide the Hotel Management students, add-on value services and internationally recognized courses in Punjab, AGC’s ACET has now tied up with UK organization named as OTHM (Organization for Tourism and Hospitality Management). Thus, the aspiring students of ACET in the field of Hotel Management who want to go for higher studies in any part of the world specially UK, Canada they will get credit transfer /lateral entry into second year/third year of their course that makes AGC’s ACET one of the top Hotel Management Colleges in North India.

INTERNSHIPS The Department of Training & Placement is striving for the success of its students and AGC as well by its consistent efforts of organizing recruitment drives in which the students participate zealously and these students get an opportunity to get selected by these companies as interns, initially. Amritsar Group of Colleges’ “Bon Appétit” highlights several current students and how AGC has helped them find their paths to success. The 19-page magazine also highlights AGC’s diverse education and training offerings.

In “Bon Appétit”, we wanted to tell the stories of some of our students to emphasize the opportunities that AGC makes available to the students opting for Hotel Management.

The sensational story of AGC is about Hotel Management student b who inspires others by his phenomenal achievement of being an Entrepreneur in the Catering Business and originating his own “Chaat Creation”. With his utter hard work, Rohan is now earning a whopping package of 60 Lac per annum.

The publication also features the story of Siddharth Marwaha, who got placement in Qatar Airways and now

working as Flight Attendant with revenue of 16 Lac per annum.

Siddharth tells how AGC helped him adjust to a different country with his vast practical knowledge gained from this college.

That’s the simple logic behind Bhavik Rathod’s drive to automate the restaurant delivery business with UberEATS, the meal-ordering and delivery platform of cab aggregator Uber. “The UberEATS app stores information such as the cuisines and restaurants that you prefer as well as what your typical lunch and dinner order looks like. So it speeds up the ordering process," says Rathod, who heads India operations for the global business and has overseen the launch of UberEATS in Mumbai, Delhi and Bengaluru.

Stays struck him when he was 18. Realizing that no other service offered a room for a budget traveller, Ritesh took the idea from Oravel stays to OYO rooms and voila! Aggarwal started OYO with 11 only rooms in a Gurgaon hotel. Today, OYO has 65000 rooms in about 5500 properties across 170 cities in India. He launched his first start‐up “Oravel Stays Pvt. Ltd.” in the year 2012. Being an avid traveler, he soon realized that the budget hospitality sector lacked predictability. Therefore, he pivoted Oravel to OYO Rooms in 2013 with the key proposition of offering affordable and standardized accommodation.

Ritesh Aggarwal has been named among the top 50 entrepreneurs by the TATA first dot awards in 2013. He is the World’s youngest CEO at 17.

After a B. Sc. in economics from the London School of Economics and

Moving to Bengaluru in 2016, she co-founded Muddy Puddle Foods along with her IIM-C batchmate Siddharth Deb. Bhushan and Deb, along with a four-person production team, operate out of a workspace-cum-office where the smoothies are prepared in customized mixers and pasteurizing machines.

Are your choices in food right? But Along with considering the right food, we must learn good eating habits as well. As such there are no any guidelines to follow but yet these 10 pro tips will really add perks to your life.

1. Keep an eye on your food What do you eat more? Observe it. If you notice high calories in your meals and find lesser time to burn then eat something that is less fattening and easy for your body to digest.

3. Drink enough of water This helps in detoxifying the body and also, it gives you a glowing skin. However, you must learn a proper form of drinking water. This forms a strong base for good eating habits. Avoid drinking water during meals as it slows down the digestion process. It is advisable to have water 30 minutes before or after your meal.

4. Include proteins in your diet Broccoli, soybeans, lentils, asparagus, and spinach are some protein-rich foods. Low-fat dairy products are also a rich source of proteins. Ensure that your body receives the required amount of proteins daily. Almost 25% of your meal should consist of good proteins.

5. Chew! Chew! Chew!

Why chewing your food is must? It is one of the easiest and obvious ways to digest your food. We mostly eat our food in a hurry and skip chewing the food properly. But the more you chew your food, the easier it becomes for your stomach to digest and the more calories you burn moving your jaw.

6. Avoid fast food and soft drinks Fast food may appease your taste buds, but it usually harms a lot to the body. It can be unhygienic and also high on harmful fats like trans-fats. Also, carbonated soft drinks have a high sugar content which will lead to obesity, diabetes, and dental caries.

Instead of these harmful drinks, refresh yourself with a glass of buttermilk or lemonade.

7. Prefer homemade food Yeah!!! A homemade dish does not have any match. They are cooked with love and taste better than any ordered food. Cooking & eating at home lets you spend more time with your family and also, homemade dishes are way more hygienic and nutritious.

8. Focus!!!

Do you also read newspaper or use mobile phone while having breakfast or any meal?? You know this is a bad habit. Avoid it!!!

Because doing something else while eating, leads to overeating. So, the next time you sit down for your meal; keep the remote control and mobile phone away for some time and enjoy the food.

9. Stop skipping breakfast Having busy schedules we often are in a hurry and end up skipping our breakfast. And, who skips breakfast can often be heard saying that he feels weak and does not like to work for long hours. So make a habit of at least not omitting your brekker.

10. Uplift your digestion When you know what to eat and in what quantity, automatically your stomach or body starts working properly. Your digestion process also gets improved. Hence, be careful with your eating habits.

A FEW MINUTES IN KITCHEN !!!

Candy Craze Sandwiches

Orange Brownies

Ingredients: 1/2 cup butter; 1/4 cup baking cocoa; 2 large eggs; 1 cup sugar; 3/4 cup all-purpose flour; 1/2 cup chopped pecans; 2 tablespoons orange juice concentrate; 1 tablespoon grated orange zest; 1/8 teaspoon salt Frosting: 1-1/2 cups confectioners' sugar; 3 tbspn butter, softened; 2 tbspn orange juice concentrate; 1 tbspn grated orange zest (optional)

Method : In a small saucepan, melt butter. Stir in cocoa until it smooth. In a large bowl, beat eggs until frothy. Without stirring, add the sugar, flour, pecans, orange juice concentrate, zest and salt.

Pour cocoa mixture over the top; mix well.

Transfer to a greased 8-inch square baking pan. Bake at 350° for 28-32 minutes or until edges begin to pull away from sides of pan.

Cool completely on a wire rack.

For frosting, combine confectioners' sugar, butter and orange juice concentrate. Spread over the brownies. Cut into bars; garnish with orange zest if desired.

Ice

Cream

Ingredients 4 scoops cookies and cream ice cream 12 large chocolate chip cookies 4 scoops peanut butter cup ice cream 1/2 cup M&M's minis, frozen 1/2 cup Reese's mini peanut butter cups Method Place a scoop of cookies and cream ice cream on each of four cookies. Top each with another cookie and a scoop of peanut butter cup ice cream. Top with remaining cookies.

Press M&M's and peanut butter cups into sides. Wrap in plastic; freeze on a baking sheet at least 1 hour.

Your Candy Craze Ice Cream Sandwiches are ready to serve.

ICED CHOCOLATE INGREDIENTS 3/4 cup hot water 1/2 cup super fine sugar 1/4 cup good quality unsweetened Dutch processed cocoa 1 teaspoon chocolate extract 1 cup milk cups ice Club soda Chocolate Gelato, slightly softened Fresh mint INSTRUCTIONS TO FOLLOW Place the hot water, sugar, cocoa and extract in a blender and blend until smooth. Add in the milk and blend to combine. Set aside to cool completely.

Add the ice to the chocolate mixture. Blend until it is frothy and slush-like, adding more ice if needed.

Pour a splash of club soda into the bottom of each glass. Fill the glass with the chocolate mixture, leaving about 1 inch of space at the top. Place a small scoop of chocolate gelato on top. Garnish with fresh mint.

Relish this mouthwatering shake with your loved ones!!!

SPARKLING CUCUMBER LIMEADE INGREDIENTS 1 cup sugar 1 tablespoon lime zest 1 cup water 1/4 cup fresh mint leaves 1 cup lime juice 1 medium English cucumber, halved and thinly sliced 2 cups sparkling water, chilled INSTRUCTIONS Combine the sugar, lime zest and water in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Bring to a simmer, stirring constantly, until the sugar is dissolved.

Remove from the heat and stir in the mint leaves. Let sit for 30 minutes.

Strain the lime syrup through a fine mesh sieve. Combine the syrup with the lime juice and cucumber. Refrigerate for at least 1 hour. When ready to serve, add in the sparkling water. Serve over ice.
