Posters are a form of printed media used to communicate a message or advertise something. They are usually large in size and feature bright colors, eye-catching designs, and striking images to attract attention. They are a great way to communicate a message, advertise an event, or promote a product. They can be used to grab the attention of passers-by and draw them in, making them great tools to spread awareness and encourage action.

• Name of the product or the purpose

• A catchy tagline

• A call to action.

• Some visuals, ranging from photos, illustrations, or a combination of both.

• Some text like a description of the product, service, or message that you are trying to convey

• You may also want to include the name or logo of the issuing authority, contact information, pricing information, or other important details if necessary.

All of us have seen big red ‘STOP’ board or the board that says ‘School Zone Go Slow’ Signboards on roads. These are all examples of signboards. Signboards are a great way of communicating information or instructions through the use of visual cues such as signs, symbols, and text. It is often used to give directions, provide information, or display warnings or notices in public areas. Signboards can also be used to advertise products, services, and businesses. They can be found in many places, including streets, buildings, parks, shops, and airports.

• Rectangular signs are used to display general information.

• Circular signs are often instructions that must be followed

• Triangular signs are typically warning signs, used to indicate a potential hazard.

A flipbook is not only a fun and interactive way to tell a story, it is also a great tool to learn about the principles of animation and and explore illustration.

Walt Disney Animation Studios is known for iconic characters like Mickey Mouse and films like Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. The studio begins all of its recent films with a logo that invokes a flipbook! Scan the QR code to watch the animation.

Photo captions are important because they help to tell the story behind the photo. They give people more information about what they are seeing and help to explain why the photo is special or important. Captions can also help people remember where the photo was taken, who was in it, and what they were doing at the time. So, when you write a caption for a photo, you are helping to make sure that people understand and appreciate the photo even more!

Captions should be short and easy to read. A good rule of thumb is to keep it to one or two sentences maximum.

Don't be afraid to use your imagination to come up with a creative and unique caption. You can use puns, wordplay, or even create a story around the image.

A caption does not just describe the photo. Think about the mood or feeling that the photo conveys and try to capture that in your caption.

The best captions are ones that come from the heart. Feel free to express your true feelings and thoughts about the photo.

Captions are meant to be fun and playful, so don't take them too seriously. Let your creativity flow and have fun with it!

Thanks to smartphones, cameras have become an intrinsic part of our lives, allowing us to capture memories and or tell stories we want to remember for a lifetime. Today’s cameras employ a simple point-and-shoot mechanism, making it easy for anyone to capture photos or videos.

All we need to follow are simple framing rules, which can make your images instantly more aesthetic and add greater depth to the meaning behind the image. Let us find out what they are.

The size of a shot determines how much of the subject is in the frame. By choosing a certain shot size, you can show people exactly what you want them to see be it the setting, people in the setting, or finer details of faces and objects. Take a look at the image below to understand how the same object can be framed using various shot sizes:

Extreme long shot Long shot
Mid shot Close up Extreme close up

Like shot sizes, camera angles are really important when it comes to taking pictures or making videos. They help tell stories and make us feel certain emotions. For example, when the camera is low and pointing up, it can make someone look strong and powerful. When it's high and pointing down, it can make them seem small or scared. Di erent angles enable us to see the world from unique perspectives and engage with stories on a deeper level. Let's learn about some of these angles.

A static camera shot is when the camera stays still and doesn't move while filming, providing a steady and unchanging view of a scene or action.

Pan is when a camera moves from side to side while filming as if scanning the scene from left to right or right to left, giving the viewer a sense of the space and movement within the scene.

Tilt is when a camera moves up or down while filming as if moving its head up and down, changing the angle of view and showing di erent parts of the scene or object from above or below.

Zoom-in is when the camera makes the subject appear closer and bigger, while zoom-out is when the subject appears farther away and smaller, without physically moving the camera.

Camera roll is when a camera tilts to the side while staying in the same position, which can create a unique and sometimes dizzying e ect in a scene.

A tracking shot is when the camera moves alongside the action, following the subject and providing a dynamic perspective of the scene.

Grab your cameras and iPads. It’s time to take a long walk. As you walk around, make sure to observe your surroundings. If you notice any of the things in the list below, capture it on your camera!

The sound of waves crashing against the shore, the chirping of birds in the trees, the laughter of children playing in the park - all of these sounds can transport us to a di erent place and time. As humans, we are inherently drawn to sound; it can evoke emotions, memories, and experiences like no other sense.

This is why audio is such an important tool, particularly in storytelling. With the rise of new technologies and platforms, audio has become more accessible than ever before, making it a valuable tool for communication, learning, and creativity.

We have all heard them; we have all created them. Stories. They are a fundamental part of human culture and communication. They are a way to connect with each other, share experiences, and make sense of the world around us.

Storytelling is at the heart of media and communication. Creating and sharing stories is a powerful way to express ourselves. Whether we are telling a story to entertain, educate, or inspire, we have the opportunity to engage with our audience in a meaningful way.

So how do we write a story? While every story is unique, some universal rules direct its structure. Let’s learn about one of them:

The 3-act structure tells a story in three parts: beginning, middle, and end.

The

The conflict plays out, and characters are faced with several obstacles that drive the story. conflict is

A character in a story is a fictional individual, be it a person, animal or thing, that plays a role in the plot or narrative

Every character has a set of qualities or features that define them. These character traits can be both physical and psychological. The best part about writing a story is that you can create your own characters and assign them characteristics of your choosing! Let’s try it!

Just like when you talk to your friends or family, the characters in a story talk to each other to share their thoughts, feelings, and ideas.

Now, why is dialogue important? Well, dialogue helps us understand the characters better. It's like getting to know them as if they were real people. When they talk, we learn about their personalities, what they want, and how they feel.

Dialogue also helps move the story forward. Instead of just reading about what happens, we get to hear the characters talk about their plans, their problems, or how they're going to solve something. It makes the story more exciting and helps us stay interested.

Storyboarding is a crucial step in the creative process, enabling us to organize ideas, ensure coherence, and create engaging movies, cartoons, or books.

Imagine you want to make a movie about a superhero. Before you start filming, you need to decide what the superhero looks like, what powers they have, and what adventures they will go on. Storyboarding helps you do that.

First, you draw pictures that show di erent scenes or moments in the story. You can draw the superhero flying through the sky, fighting a bad guy, or saving people in trouble. These pictures help you see what the movie will look like and how the story will unfold.

But storyboarding is not just about drawing pictures. It's also about planning what will happen in each scene. You can write down what the characters will say and do, and how they will move around. This way, you can make sure the story makes sense and that everything happens in the right order.

There are three important parts of making a piece of media: pre-production, production, and post-production.

Pre-production is like getting ready for a big adventure. It's when we plan everything before we start creating. We write the story, make a schedule, and figure out all the things we need like costumes and props.

Production is the exciting part where we actually create the project - be it using a camera, a microphone or a simple pen and paper.

Post-production is when we put all the pieces together to make the project. It's like a puzzle. We edit the video or audio clips, write the captions, create a book cover, add special e ects or music and give the final touches.

You need not look further than your own home, school, community or village. There are hundreds of stories in everyday life that are just waiting to be told!
