FXB is currently seeking to recruit a Program Officer for Livelihood
The Association François-Xavier Bagnoud (FXB) International FXB in Uganda is a NonGovernmental Organization (NGO) that has been operating in Uganda since 1990 FXB’s mission is to fight poverty and HIV/AIDS through its integrated community development model FXBVillage and other interventions benefiting populations living in extreme poverty.
Job description
FXB is looking for socio-economic animators as part of the implementation of its FXBVillage program in the communities of Namayumba sub-county, Wakiso District. The program Officer will be responsible for supporting the livelihood aspects (social-economic and food security) of the program among the target households. He/she will work under the supervision of the Program Manager and will collaborate with the other staff and stakeholders assigned to the program.

Duties and responsibilities:
✓ Assess the social-economic and Food Security (FS) status of families participating in the program
✓ Facilitate the development, with full participation of the supported households, of an appropriate individual household IGA/business & FS plan to meet the economic & nutritional needs of vulnerable households
✓ Training for program volunteers and beneficiaries about entrepreneurship, selection, and implementation of profitable Income Generating activities;
✓ Leading the process of providing economic support to the beneficiaries especially aiming at empowering their Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLAs) as well as Income Generating Activities (IGA;
✓ Empower most vulnerable families with needed resources through training, provision of investing capital in Income generating activities, and support them to be involved in Village Saving and Loans Associations;
✓ Assess and provide seed capital to critically vulnerable caregivers to start or boost their Income Generating Activities
✓ Build capacity of beneficiaries in IGA management i.e. Enterprise Selection Planning and Management (SPM), Financial Literacy (FL)
✓ Facilitate and support linkages of youths and caregivers to acquire practical or skills vocational skills.
✓ Train caregivers in improved farming methods and/or small-stock production
✓ Train caregivers in urban horticulture and backyard gardening and support them set up these gardens.
✓ Facilitate training for households in improved nutrition methods, child growth, and development
✓ Undertake regular monitoring visits to IGA & FS supported households to assess the IGA & FS performance and progress towards household economic & nutritional self-reliance;
✓ Create and regularly update the records and database of IGA & FS supported households;
Desired Skills and Qualifications:
✓ At least a University degree or equivalent in Development Studies, Agriculture, Agribusiness, Economics, Social sciences, entrepreneurship, or any other relevant field that provides an understanding of economic and Food security development among vulnerable families
✓ A good knowledge of working with and through local existing structures i.e. community leaders, cultural leaders, youth/ women’s associations, etc.
✓ At least two years of experience implementing banking, microfinance, cooperatives, income generation, and/ or business projects with a reputable organization.
✓ Proficient in MS office(Ms word, Ms Excel, Ms Power point,)
✓ Familiar with VSLA methodology and their monitoring tool.
✓ Familiar with different Agricultural practices such as backyard gardening, Farmer field school, Agroecology, etc.
✓ Experience in participatory methods of engaging the community.
✓ Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English, and Luganda
✓ Management skills and Team working qualities;
✓ Ugandan by Nationality and ready to live in the working area;
