A 2022 ANALYSIS

Since 2020, the world has faced a paradigm shift with the rise of sweeping epidemics, such as Covid-19. The consequences for the world are far reaching and the threat of being infected still is a danger to face every time someone goes out of their homes or meets people. Worse yet, the rise of monkeypox adds the danger of interacting with people. It is important to be aware of how such diseases spread, how you can prevent infection, and challenge misconceptions and misinformation about the disease. Your very life may depend on it in the long run. Monkeypox is a rare viral infection caused by the monkeypox virus, which belongs to the same family of smallpox. It typically occurs in central and western Africa. Sometimes, small clusters or isolated infections are diagnosed in other countries.Transmission of monkeypox virus usually occurs due to close contact with infected animals such as rodents and monkeys and is limited between people.

The main strategy to prevent the monkeypox virus depends on limiting human contact with infected animals and limiting person-to-person spread. You can prevent the monkeypox virus in the following ways:

• Avoid contact with infected animals (especially sick or dead animals). • Only eat foods that contain animal meat or parts after washing and cooking. • Use personal protective equipment (PPE)when caring for people infected with the virus. • Avoid contact with bedding and other materials contaminated by the person infected with the virus. • Wash your hands with soap and water after coming into contact with an infected animal. • Information about all recent travel and attendance of mass gathering events, festivals, and parties, and contact with any known cases should be informed to the health care professionals According to CDC, Covid-19 is spread through numerous factors when under exposure to someone that is infected. Factors that determine likelihood of exposure include: the length of time present, the amount of coughing or heavy breathing the infected frequently did, the presence of symptoms from the infected, the use of masks from both the infected and healthy individuals, the effectiveness of filtration systems within an indoor environment, and the distance from the infected from the healthy individual. For example, one is more likely to be infected in the presence of a coughing infected person with no mask, while being close to them for 15 minutes than someone who is wearing a mask, while maintaining a distance under 2 minutes. Symptoms include fever, cough, breathing difficulties, fatigue, body aches, headache, loss of taste and smell, sore throat, nausea, congestion, and diarrhea. Symptoms last for an average of 1 to 2 weeks. However, the real risk comes for people of young and old age as well as immunocompromised individuals, since they are the most vulnerable to severe symptoms on such individuals that can even amount to death. Social distancing, quarantining, masking, and healthy cleaning habits can mitigate the spread of Covid-19. Vaccines, such as those created by Pfizer and Moderna, can significantly protect one from the more dangerous effects of Covid. Antibiotic treatments also help to an extent.

In summation for Covid-19, here are the following facts to debunk misinformation about the virus:

• Fact: Started from an animal outbreak in Wuhan, China. • Fact: Covid-19 spreads through the degree of exposure in the presence of infected persons, such as distance of people, length of time, filtration systems, and exhibition of symptoms present. • Fact: Social Distancing, Masking, and Vaccination will help mitigate or prevent the effects of Covid. • Fact: Vaccination is not a 100% prevention from Covid-19, but it protects people from Covid’s full effects as opposed to people without vaccination. • Fact: Covid has affected more underprivileged communities due to improper housing, involvement in essential occupations, and lack of proper healthcare access.
