Baltimore residents of all ages gathered, July 7, to commemorate the 1963 integration of Gwynn Oak Amusement Park in Maryland. In fact, it was the same day that Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was giving the notable “I Have a Dream” speech in Washington, D.C. Some of those in attendance had been participants in the protests that demanded equal access. Some were too young to remember, but elders told the story to all who wanted to hear.

So many words were offered to describe the life and times of Dr. Homer Favor at the June 20 Memorial Service for him at Union Baptist Church. With time constraints, not enough words could be said to properly detail the man with a love for a city, the professor with a method to make it better, the ‘Goon Squad’ member with a heart and the courage to see it through along with a number of clandestine fellows.
