The Calvin and Tina Tyler Ballroom in the Morgan State University Student Center was lively and packed with alumni who gathered for the 73rd Alumni Awards and Class Reunion Luncheon celebration. Competition was stiff as each class representative came to the podium to announce their fundraising efforts for the University. The 50th anniversary class of 1963 made a major presentation of $85,000 to the Foundation, while other classes Beulah Wallace ‘53 presents a ending in 3’s and 8’s followed suit with their contributions. check for her class to President Three awards were presented to: 3rd place Class of 1960 David Wilson and Cheryl Hitchcock, (Dean’s Award); 2nd place, Class of 1957 (President’s Award); Institutional Advancement 1st place, Class of 1952 (Chairman’s Award). In his University address, Dr. David Wilson boasted of Morgan’s ranking as #1 in the United States in awarding electrical engineering bachelor’s degrees to African Americans. Morgan ranked #3 in awarding doctorates to African Americans. As part of their ongoing leadership luncheons for women, the Baltimore Links featured a conversation with Baltimore’s own, April Ryan, White House Correspondent which was held at the Sheraton Hotel in Towson, Md. Lisa Robinson, WBAL-TV, served as emcee. Ms. Ryan is a 27-year journalism veteran who has spent more than a decade serving as a White House correspondent for American Urban Radio Networks (AURN).
She hosts the daily feature, The White House Report, which is broadcasted to nearly 475 of AURN’s affiliated stations. Over the past 15 years, Ms. Ryan has conducted one-onone interviews with President Bush, First Lady Laura Bush, President Bill Clinton and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. The Baltimore Links continue to sponsor 4-8 students on scholarships at colleges throughout the nation from proceeds of this program and other special events.
