Participated in weekly cultural immersions with interns, scheduled and led intern meetings, and submitted weekly intern reports covering discussed topics, concerns, questions, and worksite evaluations.

Visitor Engagement Associate, Lower Manhattan Cultural Council — Governors Island, NY

Participated in daily opening and closure procedures for public hours, oversight of assigned exhibition spaces, welcoming visitors and promoting thoughtful enjoyment and engagement with artwork displayed, set-up of spaces for public workshops, open studios, and other events. Responded to inquiries beyond LMCC and its mission, including Governors Island and its history and current events, and other arts and culture programming and organizations on the island. Stepped in as supporting manager during unexpected absences; positioned associates in zones and performed technical troubleshooting for digital sculpture/installation, replenished exhibition literature, recorded synopsis of the day in gallery reports.

Site Overview / Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn

While considering existing land use, and continuing local indepedent efforts to greenify and create public gardens, the Bed-Stuy Water Shed is an opportunity to reimagine an underutilized, inaccessible lot as an expanded plumbing institution, and reveal a unique “throughblock” park with the capacity to host residents and visitors alike.

The current lot is used by a plumbing company as pipe storage and parking. By repurposing the space but thematically retaining plumbing - the Water Shed houses a plumbing vocation school.

Underground cisterns hold water captured from the surface of the roof, storing greywater for use in irrigation. An elevated easement carries the water down the block and provides access to growing lots, including the existing ‘Herban Farm’.

The garden opens to Van Buren Street via two gates, a standard gate and a large gate.

The partial or complete opening of the large gate will indicate a special event or public engagement in the garden.

The semester began by investigating various sites near roadways that may soon feature protected bike lanes, according to the RPA’s Five Borough Bikeway proposal.

We explored responses to its implementation, which would include 167th Street in the Bronx.

At the intersection of 167th St and Teller Ave is a parking lot that belongs to Findlay Assisted Living.

As an alternative, the Concourse Wellness Center would exist in place of the lot volumetrically, and function as a nest for physical education with an indoor bike ramp, a kitchen + seating that can facilitate community, with classrooms and other services.

CONDITIONS

For this studio, we were asked to develop and design a home for a fictional persona, while using passive house standards as a framework.

Given the option between Calgary and Phoenix, the class explored designs in vastly differing climates.

This thermal machine is created with specific consideration to an archaelogist and university professor who prefers colder temperatures and lives with a cat and dog. They live outside of the city proper and drive to work.

This archeologists office space overlooks a double height home library, cataloguing the decades of the archeologist’s research, alongside literary essentials, past and present. The shell of the building has only two openings on the eastern side, primed for sunrise

views and morning heat gain. The living room is sunken to patio level to connect seamlessly in the summer, when patio doors can be folded for open air flow. Adjacent open kitchen also opens to additional upper level patio.

Community Music Works

CMW employs a studio based approach to teaching music.

Based in Rhode Island, CMW has been a stepping stone for children and families whose lives revolve around the performance of music.

A new campus in Fort Greene, Brooklyn aims to replicate the programmatic success in Providence - while considering the need to address a different, much larger city.

The lower level auditorium serves as performance and gathering for students and parents, as well as an intermediary space between access to the shared schoolyard with P.S. 67.

The fourth and fifth levels are home to dining - which would host daily lunch and breakfast as well as the traditional, yearly CWM potluck. An auxiliary outdoor space allows for the extension of indoor activities.

Level three houses additional classrooms and a computer lab.

The second level contains group and solo practice spaces. Rooms facing the center are less acoustically restricted, allowing sound to travel through a lightwell during rehearsals.
