AFFTON SCHOOL DISTRICT SETS TAX RATE; INCLUDES $0.35 ROLLBACK On Tues., Sept. 26, the Affton Board of Education unanimously approved the 2017 blended tax rate of $5.4788. This includes a voluntary tax rollback of 35 -cents. “Due to an unexpected increase in assessed valuation of properties in our community, Affton School District is opting to forego funds that would be made possible by Proposition I, an operating tax levy increase approved by voters in November 2016,” said Tom Bellavia, Affton Board of Education President. “It is vitally important that our Board of Education remain fiscally responsible, and that includes easing the tax burden on our community whenever possible.” Adds Dr. Steve Brotherton, superintendent: “We have made a pledge to uphold transparency, and want to honor what we told the Affton community last fall when explaining why Props I and N were necessary. Affton School District needed to add $3 million to our operating revenue to provide financial stability for the future, and we’re now finding the increase in property values this year leads to an increase in district revenue. Taking just 3-cents of Prop I along with Prop N will meet this goal, and we, together with our Board of Education, feel strongly that the district should continue to live within our means. We are committed to helping our community stay strong.” Visit afftonschools.net for updates on Affton School District and Props I and N.

FAQ’s - Certified Work Ready Communities St. Louis County, MO Why is St. Louis County trying to become a Certified Work Ready Community? Becoming a Certified Work Ready Community sets St. Louis County’s commitment to economic and workforce development above other counties in attracting qualified candidates and new businesses to the region. Missouri is a leader in the country in implementing the National Career Readiness certificate and St. Louis County wants to be a part of that campaign towards a better workforce statewide. What does my business have to do if we sign the Employer Partnership Letter? Signing up does not legally bind your company, require you to hire certified applicants, or cost anything to you, and you can utilize the National Career Readiness certificate as much as what works for your business. How does St. Louis County become a Certified Work Ready Community? In order to become a Certified Work Ready Community, there must be a certain number of individuals within the County who have taken the WorkKeys Assessment test and achieved a National Career Readiness certificate and a certain number of employers to recognize the certificate through signing the Employer Partnership Letter. The County has reached its goal of individuals with a National Career Readiness certificate, but is still working towards its goal of 317 businesses supporting the program. Why should my business sign the Employer Partnership Letter? Through recognizing the National Career Readiness certificate, your company’s support will help promote job seekers having documented skills. A highly skilled workforce reduces your cost of hiring, speeds training, lowers turnover, and improves the quality of your new hires, thus more quickly becoming productive for you. Promoting a quality, quantified workforce brings more attractive employees to the region and to your business. What businesses can sign the Employer Partnership Letter? Any business can sign up to recognize the National Career Readiness certificate. What is the WorkKeys Assessment test and who takes it? The WorkKeys Assessment test is given to those who are seeking employment and want to assess their skills in Applied Mathematics, Reading for Information, and Locating Information. The assessment results can be applied to any type of job and can help distinguish an individual from other candidates.

For more information on MO Work Ready Communities, please visit: https://ded.mo.gov/getcertified/employers
