Established in 1938, Alliance Française de Bombay (AF Bombay) has evolved in sync with the geographical and cultural expansion of the city. AF Bombay, through its 5 centres, caters to more than 5,000 students each year. Its headquarters has remained in South Mumbai (the historical and administrative heart of the city) while its French language classes have spread to many different locations across the ‘Maximum City’.

ALLIANCE FRANÇAISE TEACHING METHOD The action-oriented approach is the conceptual basis of the proposal by the Council of Europe’s CEFR, which “is an action-oriented one in so far as it views users and learners of a language primarily as ‘social

agents’, for example members of society who have tasks (not exclusively language-related) to accomplish in a given set of circumstances, in a

specific environment and within a particular field of action”. Regarding the performance of these tasks, the action-oriented approach takes into account the person’s cognitive, emotional, and volitional resources, as well as all the set of specific abilities the person applies as a social agent. An action-oriented approach attaches great importance to formulating the learning goals in terms of competences.

The reflective action-oriented approach is a development of the actionoriented approach intended to foster not only the learner’s ability to communicate in the new additional language, but also their ability to analyse communicative situations and to react accordingly, extracting with agency those linguistic elements that fit them best from the input or the texts dealt with, as well as to manipulate those elements to formulate their own messages. Therefore, in order to be successful in learning, the learner must understand thoroughly the linguistic resources offered by each language to formulate these messages.

DIPLOMAS

DELF (Diplôme d’Etudes en Langue Française) and DALF (Diplôme Approfondi de Langue Française) are French language proficiency diplomas issued by the French Ministry of Education. They are valid for life and are recognised worldwide. They allow you to officially validate your French learning and therefore, to justify your level in the language if you decide to study, work or immigrate in a Frenchspeaking country.

DELF and DALF Tout public are meant for candidates aged 18 and above.

There are two versions of the DELF available for younger students: DELF Junior and DELF Prim. DELF junior is intended for teenagers aged between 12 and 18 years old (middle school and high-school).

DELF Junior is divided into 4 levels: A1, A2, B1 and B2.

DELF Prim is intended for the children aged from 7 to 11 years old (elementary school). DELF Prim is divided into 3 levels: A1.1, A1 and A2 and is based on a positive and non-sanctioning evaluation.

Both DELF PRIM and DELF Junior are based on the same level of competency required to validate the DELF tout public, only the themes change slightly in order to fit children’s / teenagers’ interests. They, hence, have the same value and recognition in institutions worldwide. Similar to the DELF tout public, they are valid for life.

ALLIANCE FRANÇAISE SERVICES TEACHERS TRAINING The Alliance Française in India network, in partnership with Le Mans University and the cultural services of the French Embassy in India, offers a quality training program every year to develop the teaching skills of new teachers and prepare them for the University Diploma for ALLIANCE FRANÇAISE INDIA

teaching French as a Foreign Language. This diploma course is available at two centres in India:

Alliance française de Delhi and

Alliance Française de Bombay. Designed primarily for beginners or experienced French teachers (who do not possess the FLE Masters degree), the program allows candidates from India, Nepal and Sri Lanka, to learn without leaving their current duties.

The DU FLE is an internationally recognised diploma that expands opportunities in the field of education by improving teaching techniques through various comprehensive modules. It allows you to validate skills acquired in the field of pedagogy, access Masters FLE, and ensure a future as a French teacher not only in the network of Alliances Françaises but also in schools, institutes or universities. With a total duration of 200 hours, spread over 9 months, this training covers all the theoretical, methodological and practical knowledge essential for foreign language teachers.
