City of Edmonton: Monthly Building Permit Values

January 2015 Monthly Total Building Permit Construction Value Construction value (millions of dollars)

The total construction value of building permit applications in the City of Edmonton for the month of January 2015 is $362 million. This is down 4 per cent compared to January 2014 ($377 million) and up 57 per cent compared to the five-year monthly average ($231 million). It is down 40 per cent from the previous month, December 2014 ($602 million).

The total building permit construction value for 2014 was $4.63 billion. This is up 17% from the annual construction value of 2013 ($3.97 billion) and up 50 percent from 5 year average (2009-2013: $3.08 billion).

At the end of 2014, the total annual construction value of building permits for the Edmonton region was $6.4 billion. The value of construction within the City of Edmonton represented 72 per cent of the total amount. This is up from the five-year annual average of 69 per cent (2009-2013).

Residential permits represents the largest portion of the monthly construction value. New single detached houses accounts for 45 per cent of the total construction value and all residential permits accounts for 69 per cent of the total construction value. The construction value for residential permits is down 7 per cent from January 2014. Commercial and institiutional permits account for 22 per cent and 1 per cent of the total construction value , while industrial and miscellaneous permits account for the remainder. The total year-to-date construction value for each permit type is as follows: • Commercial: $81 million • Industrial: $27 million • Institutional: $3.5 million • Residential: $249 million • Miscellaneous: $1.6 million

City of Edmonton: Monthly Building Permit Values

Residential permits represent the largest portion of the monthly construction value. New single detached houses account for 41 per cent of the total construction value and all residential permits account for 87 per cent of the total construction value. The construction value for residential permits is up 44 per cent from February 2014. Commercial permits account for 11 per cent of the total construction value, while industrial, institutional and miscellaneous permits account for the remainder. The total year-to-date construction value for each permit type is as follows: • • • • •

Commercial: $117 million Industrial: $33 million Institutional: $5 million Residential: $537 million Miscellaneous: $3 million

At the end of January 2015, the total annual construction value of building permits for the Edmonton region was $551 million. The value of construction within the City of Edmonton represented 66 per cent of the total amount. This is down from the five-year annual average of 70 per cent (2010-2014).

The construction value for residential permits is down 10 per cent from March 2014. Commercial permits account for 19 per cent while Industrial, Institiutional and Miscellaneous accounts for the remaining 5 percent of the total construction value. At the end of February 2015, the total annual construction value of building permits for the Edmonton region was $1,118 million. City of Edmonton: Monthly Building Permit Values

The construction value of the commercial permits accounts for 27 per cent of the total, while industrial, institutional, and miscellaneous permits account for the remaining 5 per cent. The total year-to-date (to April 30, 2015) building permit construction value is $1,376 million. It is up 4 per cent compared to YTD of 2014 ($1326 million), and up 20 per cent compared to the five-year average (YTD 20102014: $1,143 million). The YTD construction value for each permit type is as follows: • • • • •

The total YTD (to March 31, 2015) building permit construction value for the Edmonton Region is $1,543 million. The construction value within the City of Edmonton represents 66 per cent of the total amount. This is down 4 per cent from the five-year average (2010-2014) of the percentage.

City of Edmonton: Monthly Building Permit Values

Commercial permits account for 23 per cent of the total construction value, while industrial, institiutional and miscellaneous permits account for the remaining 5 per cent. Year-to-date ending May 31, 2015, total building permit construction value is $1,836 million. The year-to-date values are up 10 per cent compared to 2014 ($1,667 million) and up 23 per cent compared to the five-year average (YTD 2010-2014: $1,492 million).The total year-to-date value for each permit type is as follows: • • • • •

Commercial: $380 million Industrial: $57 million Institutional: $29 million Residential: $1,359 million Miscellaneous: $11 million

At the end of April 2015, the total annual construction value of building permits for the Edmonton region was $2,054 million. The City of Edmonton represented 67 per cent of the total amount. This is down from the five-year annual average of 70 per cent (2010-2014).

The construction value of the residential permits for May 2015 is $331 million, and it accounts for 72 per cent of the total. This is also up 37 per cent from April 2015. New single detached houses account for 30 per cent of the total construction value.

Year-to-date ending July 31, 2015, total building permit construction value is $2,754 million. The year-to-date values are up 8 per cent compared to 2014 ($2,542 million) and up 33 per cent compared to the five-year average (YTD 2010-2014: $2,067 million).The total year-to-date value for each permit type is as follows: • • • • •

City of Edmonton: Monthly Building Permit Values

Residential permits represent the largest portion of the monthly construction value. New single detached houses account for 45 per cent and all residential permits account for 69 per cent of the total construction value. The year-to-date construction value for Industrial Permit is up 167 per cent, Residential is down 1 per cent, Commercial is down 1 per cent, and Institutional is down 4 per cent compared to 2014. The total yearto-date construction value for each permit type is as follows: • Commercial: $692 million • Industrial: $174 million • Institutional: $153 million • Residential: $1,979 million • Miscellaneous: $17 million At the end of July 2015, the total annual construction value of building permits for the Edmonton region was $3,776 million. The value of construction within the City of Edmonton represented 73 per cent of the total amount. This is up from the five-year annual average of 70 per cent (2010-2014).

Commercial permits account for 35 per cent of the total construction value, while industrial, institiutional and miscellaneous permits account for the remaining 10 per cent. Year-to-date ending September 30, 2015, total building permit construction value is $3,538 million. The year-to-date values are up 6 per cent compared to 2014 ($3,325 million) and up 34 per cent compared to the five-year average (YTD 2010-2014: $2,643 million). • • • • •

This is down 12 per cent compared to October 2014 ($418 million) and up 21 per cent compared to the five-year monthly average ($302 million). It is down 30 per cent from the previous month, September 2015 ($523 million).

City of Edmonton: Monthly Building Permit Values

Commercial permits account for 20 per cent of the total construction value, while industrial, institutional and miscellaneous permits account for the remaining 8 per cent. Year-to-date ending November 30, 2015, total building permit construction value is $4,197 million. The yearto-date values are up 4 per cent compared to 2014 ($4,023 million) and up 30 per cent compared to the five-year average (YTD 2010-2014: $3,218 million). The total year-to-date construction value for each permit type is as follows: • • • • •

Commercial: $999 million Industrial: $194 million Institutional: $259 million Residential: $2,722 million Miscellaneous: $23 million

At the end of November 2015, the total annual construction value of building permits for the Edmonton region was $5,242 million. The value of construction within the City of Edmonton represented 74 per cent of the total amount. This is up from the five-year annual average of 70 per cent (2010-2014).

The construction value of the residential permits for November 2015 is $211 million, and it accounts for 72 per cent of the total construction value. This is down 14 per cent from October 2015 ($244 million). The new single detached houses account for 29 per cent of the total construction value.

City of Edmonton: Monthly Building Permit Values

December 2015

The construction value of the commercial permits accounts for 16 per cent of the total, while industrial, institutional, and miscellaneous permits account for the remaining 37 per cent. The total year-to-date (to December 31, 2015) building permit construction value is $4,505 million. It is down 3 per cent compared to YTD of 2014 ($4,625 million), and up 28 per cent compared to the five-year average (YTD 2010-2014: $3,511 million). The YTD construction value for each permit type is as follows: • • • • •

Commercial: $1,047 million Industrial: $197 million Institutional: $371 million Residential: $2,867 million Miscellaneous: $23 million

The total YTD (to December 31, 2015) building permit construction value for the Edmonton Region is $5,655 million. The construction value within the City of Edmonton represents 74 per cent of the total amount. This is up 4 per cent from the five-year average (2010-2014) of the percentage.
