AdZU Junior High Welcomes New Faces, Facilities Amid Challenges

The Ateneo de Zamboanga University Junior HighSchoolisexperiencingsignificantchanges this academic year with new faculty members including Jesuit regents, and facility upgrades markingaperiodofgrowthandtransition

Principal Fr Roberto Boholst, SJ, confirmed in an interview that at least ten teachers left the school recently to pursue better opportunities abroad To ensure that workloads remained manageable,theadministrationpromptlyhired additionalinstructors

"Teachers leave for greener pastures and while it is difficult, we understand and support their personalandprofessionalgrowth,"FrBertsaid

Grade 7 students and transferees were officially welcomed into the Junior High School (JHS) community during the Orientation Seminar (OrSem) 2025 held on June21,2025.

With the theme “Acompañamos: Walking with Others Growing in Faith and Mission the Orientation Seminar, inspired by the animated film Lilo & Stitch and its concept of Ohana meaning family, aimed to foster a sense of belonging, purpose, and community among thenewbatch

Council of Leaders (COL) President Iven Javier gave his opening remarks saying “This orientationismorethanjustaboutlearningthe new school rules and schedules, it is about havingyoufeellikeyoubelonghere

Furthermore Fr Roberto M Boholst SJ introduced the 9 class sections while briefly explainingtheclasssaintsinhisspeech

After the introduction of moderators and teacher-partners Ms Janelle Jindam CañeteAsjali, Assistant Prefect of Discipline, gave differentrulesforthemorningassembly

"In the Ateneo you are not alone" said Ms Janelle, reminding the students that they are together for the rest of their high school journey

Different activities were introduced including theenergizers,YellandBannerMaking,andthe Amazing Race Tour letting the competitions take place simultaneously to accommodate bothbatches

Following the end of the activities the winners announced were Loyola, Briant, and Ogilvie receiving 1st 2nd and 3rd place respectively in theYellMaking:BatchA

In the Yell Making: Batch B Borgia won 1st Pignatelli with 2nd place, then Xavier gaining 3rd

For the Banner Making: Batch A Realino secured 1st place, followed by Goupil and Loyola while Batch B has Transferees Borgia andLewisastheir1stto3rdplacers

Facility improvements are progressing incrementally A new robotics laboratory, which isestablishedinpartnershipwithEduLearn has opened to support 21st-century learning and competitions

The administration also added new classrooms and is exploring long-term plans for a bigger library auditorium and more air-conditioned rooms, though budget limitations remain a challenge

Enrollmentfiguresreacheditsprojectedtargets this year with Grade 9 registering the highest number
