hey say that a dog is a man’s best friend. But in the case of The Happy Dog Walker, it may just be the other way around. Jesse Christen started this business just over a year ago, and found his true calling after deciding he was tired of “corporate life.” “I’m a lifelong dog enthusiast,” says Christen. “And when it comes to finding a job, people always say ‘do something you love,’ so I decided to try it.” While it was certainly a leap of faith to leave his job to start his own venture, he says he hasn’t regretted it once. “It is rewarding to be doing something that I’m really passionate about as well as something that is so good for the dogs.” Dogs need exercise on a regular basis to stay healthy, happy and well behaved, explains Christen. “Many behavior problems can be corrected with regular exercise,” he says. “Plus you can help avoid health issues, just the way exercise helps improve health in humans. Giving your pets exercise helps ensure a longer, happier life.” Lack of exercise can lead to obesity, poor muscle tone, heart disease and bone and joint problems (sound familiar,

Not getting enough activity can also lead to emotional problems like boredom barking, anxiety and destructive behavior. “Many of my clients have seen a noticeable difference in their pets after several short weeks of regular exercise.” One such canine was Winston, an English Bulldog. Prior to joining The Happy Dog Walker, Winston was overly energetic to the point where it was a challenge for his owners. Winston was able to channel his energy through regular walks with Christen. Duke, a Rottweiler mix, also benefited from regular walks. He had a weight problem, and through his time with Christen, Duke lost 12 pounds. Unfortunately, Duke was diagnosed with Lupus and recently passed away. Christen misses his friend. “I truly love all of these dogs. I think I enjoy the walking even more than they do.” On a busy day, Christen will cover four or five miles, walking each dog individually, unless the owners request otherwise. The Happy Dog Walker website lists all of the services Christen offers, and the fees. For example, he offers a short walk (25 minutes) or an extended walk (45 minutes), play time
