MOSAIC FAMILY SERVICES, FOUNDED IN 1993

12225 Greenville Ave., Ste. 800, 214-821-5393, mosaicservices.org

WHO THEY ARE Mosaic Family Services was founded at East Dallas Counseling Center 28 years ago by Walter Nguyen, a former refugee from Vietnam, to assist struggling refugees and immigrants in the Dallas area. Mosaic’s initial focus was on substance abuse, but its services have now broadened to include health, social and victim services to refugees and immigrants. The nonprofit’s main office is located out of the neighborhood and many of its clients reside in Lake Highlands and Vickery Meadow. WHAT THEY DO The nonprofit offers an emergency domestic violence and human trafficking shelter called Mosaic House. Mosaic offers an onsite licensed daycare facility for mothers to feel comfortable leaving their children while meeting with a legal team, attending counseling or going to job interviews. Mosaic has a full-time counselor who offers play therapy for children and comprehensive counseling for survivors. Other services include case management, a legal team, a citizenship program and more. Mosaic staff can speak over 25 languages. HOW TO HELP In June, Mosaic is hosting a drive-in fundraiser. In August, the nonprofit will hold a virtual trivia night. Mosaic’s sponsorship opportunities and tickets can be found online. “We are dedicated to serving survivors of human rights abuses from around the world and within our community. We hope to equip future leaders with the skills to impact their own diverse communities.” — Momtaz Begum, director of development Momtaz Begum. june 2021
