Today’s Plan Blesses Tomorrow

Each year, loving bequests from donors support our Annual Fund. This fund, combined with program revenue, pays for Adventure Unlimited’s operating expenses.

So when revenue fell last year due to limitations on inperson programming, bequests played an important role in meeting the shortfall. We also received an additional substantial estate gift in 2020 that we’ve been able to fully invest for future years.

The impact of these bequests on our participants is deep and wide, as is our gratitude. What impact do you want to make?

DONOR PROFILE

Loving Invitations to Long-term Generosity A call Tim Potter received in 1965 has been both a meaningful memory and life-transforming event.

It was from Adventure Unlimited’s founder, Cap Andrews, telling him about an informational slide show that would be shown that night in Sacramento, CA, some 70 miles from where Tim was working on the Oroville Dam.

“Another has been helping to ensure the support of future generations of youth through the promotion of programs like the Summit Society,” he continues. “Sharing and seeing the willingness of others to become members of this long-term support program when they realize its value has also been a very satisfying goal.”

This introduction to Adventure Unlimited spoke to Tim’s passion for bringing meaningful programs to youth. Since that call, Tim served the A/U Field program (now DiscoveryBound) on staff for 17 years and as a volunteer for several years before becoming ranch director at the A/U Ranches. He was also a trustee for 20 years and recently completed a three-year term on the National Alumni Board.

For several years, Tim has been a volunteer ambassador for the Summit Society, communicating to his wide network of friends and family how including Adventure Unlimited in their estate plans has a powerful long-term impact on young people in A/U Ranches and DiscoveryBound programs.

In fact, that includes his own household.

“Witnessing the joy and spiritual growth of youth and families over the past 50+ years has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life,” Tim says.

“When I shared with my wife, Helen, what Adventure Unlimited was accomplishing, she enthusiastically became a member as well, generously providing, like so many others, for the sustainability of the organization’s life-impacting and enriching activities,” he says.

Never one to miss an opportunity to encourage support for the organization he’s spent half a century serving, Tim adds, “It is my hope that others will help secure the future of Adventure Unlimited by becoming a member of the Summit Society.”

The Summit Society was established to honor those who have included Adventure Unlimited in their long-term plans through a bequest provision, retirement plan assets, life insurance policy, life income gift or other deferred giving arrangement. Bequests Meet the Need

By Rob Blackwell, Adventure Unlimited Foundation President After a year that required significant changes in how Adventure Unlimited (like many other businesses) operated, we felt profound gratitude for how our generous community has kept our programs and participants in their giving plans.

For instance, some individuals have inquired about how to set up planned gifts. Others have become Summit Society members by establishing bequests that include Adventure Unlimited.

Still others who are current Summit Society members have been very clear about their support for the organization and have offered to help in any they can. They’ve told me they are Summit Society members because they feel they are a part of the Adventure Unlimited family and care deeply about the organization.

Gratefully, we have received several bequests this year at a critical time when we needed the additional support to meet our budget. These bequests have provided a level of financial stability to keep our staff intact and to continue offering programming to our constituents.

Recent bequests have also enabled us to increase our funding of endowments, which is a part of Adventure Unlimited’s strategic plan to create greater long-term financial sustainability.

And finally, bequests have been received this year with a specific designation to a part of Adventure Unlimited that was deeply meaningful to the donor.

GETTING STARTED: MAKING A BEQUEST You can make a bequest in a number of ways by naming Adventure Unlimited as a beneficiary of these assets (always consult a qualified legal professional or attorney when making plans): • Retirement plan (IRA, 401(k)/403(b), etc.)

• Paid-up life insurance policy or a bank/investment account • Will or trust Bequests can provide general operating support or be designated to something specific like the A/U Ranches, DiscoveryBound or the Adventure Unlimited Endowment.
