GIVING STRATEGIES

Why Should I Prepare a Will? Planning for the future can feel like a daunting task, but you want to make sure everything you’ve worked hard for is taken care of in the way you want. Preparing a will is the best way to ensure your heirs and other beneficiaries important to you receive all you intend to leave behind.

Do I need a will? If you own property, are married or have children, you’ll want to prepare a will to ensure your assets are divided the way you wish. Even single adults and those in their 20s and 30s can benefit from making a will using a simple template.

What’s involved with preparing my will? You should always consult an attorney for estate advice. In addition, here are some basic points: • Decide who will inherit your property. • Choose a personal representative to handle your estate. • If your children are minors, choose a guardian and someone to manage their property. As you prepare your will, you may wish to consider this: An estate commitment to Adventure Unlimited perpetuates your bequest into a lifetime of spiritual growth and memories for A/U Ranches and DiscoveryBound participants. It also welcomes you into our Summit Society! Contact Rob Blackwell, Foundation president, at rblackwell@adventureunlimited.org or 888.416.7348 x104 for more information. Thank you!

WHAT IS THE SUMMIT SOCIETY? The Summit Society was established to honor those who have taken the special step of including Adventure Unlimited in their long-term plans through a bequest provision, retirement plan assets, life insurance policy, life income gift or other deferred giving arrangement. If you’ve done this already, please let us know! We’ll send you a CD gift of Madelon Maupin’s Bible Roads series on Matthew as our thank you for your significant and special gift.

Making a Meaningful Estate Commitment An estate commitment is one of the easiest gifts to make and among the most powerful ways to help Adventure Unlimited while reducing the tax burden on your heirs. In fact, approximately 8% of donations to Adventure Unlimited comes from bequests. You simply need the help of an attorney to include language in your will or trust specifying a gift to be made to Adventure Unlimited as part of your estate plan. (See box for sample language.)

Options for making an estate commitment • Gift a percentage of your estate, a specific dollar amount or asset, or a portion from the balance or residue of your estate.

Some beneficiary designation forms require an organization’s Federal Tax Identification Number; Adventure Unlimited’s number is 43-0798771. Learn more at AdventureUnlimited.org/plannedgiving or contact Rob Blackwell (rblackwell@ adventureunlimited.org or 888.416.7348 x104).

• Make a gift that produces income for life such as a charitable gift annuity, remainder trust or lead trust. • Gift a retirement asset, such as an IRA account or other qualified retirement plan like a 401(k) or 403(b) account.

SAMPLE LANGUAGE FOR YOUR WILL OR TRUST “I give, devise and bequeath [$______ or __%] of the rest and residue of my estate to Adventure Unlimited, 5201 S. Quebec Street, Greenwood Village, Colorado, to be placed in [choose option: General Endowment or the Annual Fund].”

“My decision to leave monies to Adventure Unlimited in my directive was simply based on my love of the A/U Ranches and the spiritual inspiration and uplifting of thought that being there encourages and promotes. Since being there in the 1970s as a camper at first, and then as staff, the A/U Ranches have always been dear to my heart. These donations are just a reflection of that love.” – Summit Society member
