TO OUR FRIENDS & FAMILY 2020 reiterated that science can save us. In the pandemic darkness of this past year, science was the light. Open-source research and science-driven public health policy lifted us from chaos to hope. Scientists’ voices rose louder than politics and fear. And before the year’s end, a global scientific effort yielded the impossible: multiple COVID-19 vaccines that should have taken a decade to develop. The connected realities of climate change, a growing population, and the associated inequities are increasingly ubiquitous in each of our lives. To overcome these challenges, we must apply this same level of focus, cooperation, and ingenuity as we did with COVID-19. We must promote solutions that minimize our impact on the environment.
Our organization is working on the front lines of these issues to amplify and accelerate our partners’ solutions. As dark as things often seem, we remain inspired by the light of our partners and the innovations they are pursuing. In the pages that follow, we aim to share the stories of our partners, who are our heroes, and the amazing volunteers who support them. They remind us every day to keep fighting and to remain optimistic.
