What We Do The Advance Planning Group (APG) provides planning and advisory services for a range of public and private sector clients all around the globe. Guided by strategic thinking and an interactive process, we help clients achieve their goals and objectives and prepare for future change.

Portfolio + Facility Planning Portfolio Planning is a process that considers existing conditions, business drivers, and future requirements for the organization. The process helps clients develop a long-term plan to support operations and informs investment decisions. Facility Planning, including architectural programming, defines the details and requirements for project implementation. Our facility planning team uses the Problem SeekingSM process to categorize and analyze project information. This process includes the following steps: Establish Client/User Goals; Collect, Organize, and Analyze Facts; Uncover and Test Concepts; Determine Needs; and State the Problem.

Major outcomes of the programming process include clearly defined space and adjacency requirements and the associated block and stack diagrams, which form the foundation of design solutions as well as move and relocation strategies.

Strategic Sustainability Long-term Value Driven by Transformational Sustainability + Resilience Global water stress, climate change, and resource constraints are creating complex challenges for public and private sector leaders that require innovative solutions. The business case for action includes growing expectations among citizens, consumers, and investors for higher levels of risk management and sustainability performance as well as helping to achieve United Nations 2030 Sustainable Development goals.

Planning Our planning team applies a systems-based approach that integrates complex natural and man-made systems to achieve social, environmental, and economic sustainability. We provide a framework that examines overlapping, interdependent systems influencing the triple bottom line of a project, organization, or community.

In order to respond to client needs to meet business drivers and market demands, our framework is flexible and can accommodate changes in density and use over time. We are also sensitive to the unique cultural and environmental needs of a site and formulate place-based responses. We leverage technology such as GIS and BIM to create smart tools for decision support.

Urban Design Our urban design team articulates urban form, character, and quality, creating dynamic places for people. We work at various scales – from the suburban town center to the small town and the urban core – with sensitivity to the components which ultimately define these areas. Landscape Architecture The art and science of landscape architecture balances creativity with complex ecological systems. Visual Media Services We offer a comprehensive set of design visualization services for our clients. From a simple 2D illustration to 3D animation composited into live video to interactive online custom software and mobile applications, we work to provide the highest quality and most cost effective solution for your needs. Starting from existing client-provided content or from scratch, we produce high-quality products. Using 3D/4D/5D models, animation, photo-simulation, and infographics, our visualization experts create engaging, compelling imagery that provides a window into the future and allows clients to envision how a project or process will occur over time. Visualization provides an accurate method of examining alternatives at the planning and design stages, when options are most open. Early communication of design alternatives, made possible by design visualization, helps identify, explore, and resolve issues so projects can move forward.
