We’ll wander the remnants of these establishments and bring back to life the stories of these large, and almost forgotten, communities. This popular tour begins at the Western Heritage Center.
Born a Railroad Town Friday, August 5 (10am)
Billings was created in 1882 by the Northern Pacific Railroad. The city was split into two by railroad tracks running through the center of downtown. This tour explores the founding of Billings and explains how the railroad continues to impact us today. This tour begins at the Western Heritage Center.
MetraPark & the Fairgrounds Friday, August 19 (10am)
The county fair has always been a fun family affair. The Yellowstone Fair Association was established in 1892 with events like rodeos, fireworks, displays, and Native American dances. Hear about Sacrifice Cliff and the expansion of the fairgrounds into what it is today. This tour begins at the fairgrounds gate. Call if you need directions.
Grave Side Stories – A Walk Through Mountview Cemetery Friday, August 12 (10am); Friday, September 16 (10am)
Join us for a walk, through Billings’ Mountview Cemetery located on Central Avenue. We’ll look at the original layout of Billings’ first cemetery, hear some of our past citizens stories, and view the historic mausoleum. This popular tour begins at Mountview Cemetery, near Veteran’s area, off of Central Avenue. Call 256-6809 if you need directions.

Morning Bird Stroll 2nd Saturday of every month from 8:30 – 10:00am – Advance registration is required.
A great program for beginning birders! On this monthly birding adventure, we will cover some birding basics, learn some bird calls/songs for ID by ear and work on our description skills to visually ID the species that we see. Come with your own gear or borrow some from us- we have binoculars and guidebooks available to check out. We hope to see you there!
