The rules of the game
Grainger County’s famous Tomato Wars will ensue Saturday, July 23.
The battles are open to all individuals who can field a team. Groups will be divided into three di erent age groups. Registration begins at 9 a.m. The battles will begin with those age 12 and under at 10 a.m. followed by those 13 to 16 years old, those 17 to 25 years old, 26 to 49 years old and those 50 years old and older, respectively.
Everyone who signs up to play in a timely manner will be able to play. The cost to participate is $5 per team member, or a total of $25 per team. All funds raised will go to Yoke Youth Ministry.
Teams will consist of five members. Those under 18 years old must provide a parent or guardians signature to be able to participate.
Each team must have a name, and must remain at the infield site and be prepared to battle when
their age group/team name is called. Not doing so could result in a forfeit. Trophies will be awarded in each age category.
All participants should wear light colored t-shirts. Players will be provided a fixed amount of well-ripened tomato ammunition. Anyone who attempts to use anything other than the tomato ammunition provided will be disqualified.
All participants should use safety glasses. Otherwise a waiver must be signed recognizing it is the player’s decision not to wear safety glasses during play.
Team members will be considered “dead” when there is evidence of a direct hit on their shirt. Hits elsewhere will be considered “wounding.”
Ammunition will be limited to prevent excessive “wounding.” Each match will last until all players on a team are “dead” or 30 minutes have elapsed.
Disputes will be settled by the referees. All referee decisions are final. When the referees whistle blows, all play must stop. No physical contact is permitted between contestants. Combatants must act in a
respectful manner. Physical violence and excessive use of inappropriate language will not be tolerated and could result in a team member being ejected from the war.
