Ensure to keep record and track of your little wins in line with your objectives. This will enable you to evaluate the strides you have made and celebrate your steps towards reaching your resolutions.

Tip 4: Get a buddy

Rope in a friend, colleague, spouse or family relation with similar goals so that you motivate each other towards what it is you each want to achieve This is your number 1 fan. Do pick the right partner though, one who will encourage you as opposed to discouraging you

Voi region is occupied by two communities. Each of the two communities wanted to be involved in the project by providing labour Adrian

Kenya had to ensure that each community was given equal opportunity in the hiring of workers

To smoothen this process, Adrian Kenya engaged the elders from the two communities, who then identified the beneficiaries. This approach

also gives some guarantee on the honesty and dependability of the selected casual workers. Once the workers were identified, the next steps involved engaging them in accordance with the labour laws and also ensuring they are medically fit

NECESSIT Y SAFET Y AS A

According to the UN Global Compact, each year an estimated 2.78million workers die from occupational accidents and work related accidents. Unsafe working conditions arise from underlying causes such as insufficent knowledge and resources on safety, unsustainable business practices, governance gaps and a lack of a culture of prevention. Overall, safety is an investment for the future, safety should be our way of life at all times.

Conversation By:

Chief Operating O cer, Adrian Kenya

1. Why focus on safety?

“Morally speaking, no one wants to get hurt, and no one is happy that someone else is hurt. When you are involved in accident, you spend money. It has an economic impact to an individual and the business in equal measure. Since safety is also guided by law, non-compliance will attract punishment in terms of fines, imprisonment or a business may be shut-down by regulatory bodies.

My role in the business is to ensure collaborative efforts to ensure business alignment for operational excellence. As a member of the Safety committee,

safety is central to our business operations and requires all stakeholders to work in tandem.

2. What does Health and Safety mean to you as an individual?

To me, Health and Safety is something that is close and dear to my heart As a person, I value life As a mother, I have brought life into this world and the thought of losing a life would be a nightmare.

Every day as I come to work , I must ensure that wherever I am working from is safe When I

look at the staff in the organization, I also value thei r life and that is one of the commitments to ensure that

they also feel safe coming to work and returning home safe

Each life is precious and means a lot to those we have left at home and to those who we interact with in the community. Health and safety to me means life.“

1 3

3.What is the importance of Health and Safety to Adrian?

HSE is important in both monetary and non-monetary aspects. I will start with the nonmonetary which entails the life of the employee who comes to you

At Adrian, this means valuing the life of the members of staff, the people who report to the organization as well as the different site and giving them the benefit of comfort that when they leave their house to come to work , they have a safe environment to work from.

On the other hand, Health and safety has a monetary aspect which affects our profitability. Doing things the right way improves productivity among the staff, reduces the cost of operations as well as reduces work-related injuries and fatalities. All this affects output as well as costs overall.

4.Why does Adrian prioritize safety in its operations?

Health and safety standards are preset in our industry and are part of the regulation and compliance aspects that need to be undertaken by any business. For Adrian, it is serious, it means doing things the right way as an organization and once we do things the right way, it translates to more productivity in our employees. We strive to create a safe environment so Adrian employees have comfort coming to work and giving their all knowing that no injuries, no fatalities might come around.

Health and Safety compliance is also a requirement by ISO 45001 to embrace health and safety in the workplace We have a commitment as an organization to our employees in ensuring that they are safe Once we have that comfort, they can give in more to the work.

If an organization like Adrian does not abide to the safety standards, it means increased workplace injuries, loss of

person in business and any other related injuries that may come because of noncompliance to health and safety For us, it is important because we value our staff and the business we do

5.What is the implication of safety noncompliance to the company?

One of them is as I have mentioned, is increased workplace injuries and fatalities and God forbid if that would happen because that would call for even cancellation of contracts we have running with our customers. The other thing is the reduced productivity of our staff and that will translate to reduced profitability for the business. Increased staff turnover because nobody would want to come to work in an environment where they are not safe. If the environment is not conducive for our staff, then all the cons mentioned are likely to occur

Adrian take up Safety as a core value?

We have taken safety seriously as an organization and for us to be able to make it part of our day-to-day business, the best way to go about it was to include it as one of our core values. This makes it part of the day-to-day way of life even with our employees both within the organization and out in the field. To uphold safety, we need to ask ourselves the following questions: How do we carry out our work when we are out there in the sites. What is the procedure of starting projects when on site, The answers to these questions give us the reason to always want to do things the right way and once that is embedded in our culture as Adrian Kenya then it means that we will avoid, and we will reduce any injuries that might come along whether there is supervision or not

y

It calls also for commitment from the management on the same since it is top down and if the management is not committed, if their behaviors state otherwise then it beats the logic of including it as a value. But for us since everybody is now committed, it is an inclusive process whereby even our employees have input in the way we run our day to day and what the expectation is of safety Are they their brother ’s keeper, for all these things, communication has been done and they are able now to pick up those areas and any hazards that may risk the way they operate. It is a value

now, so everyone knows that this is the Adrian way of life Being in the engineering field, Safety is a key factor in running the operations of the business.

7.What is your call to action to industry stakeholders in committing to safety of their people?

Safety is an expensive process. It entails life and loss of life is more important than anything else including the profitability that will come along if you keep on losing the people who are working for you due to injuries and accidents.

that they can also know what it means and entails to the organization and once that is done, the results will show themselves. From reduced injuries, breakages that happen on the road and all the dreadful things that happen if you do not comply with safety rules and regulations. It is important as a business to all comply to the OSH act of 2007 whereby the employee is tasked with ensuring that safety is upheld in the organization by ensuring that safety equipment like PPE’s is

Our commitment is to ensure that business is run in a safe and efficient manner

Safety is a core value and a way of life. We strive build a positive safety culture where all our stakeholders follow safety guidelines in their everyday actions.

Trees help clean the air we breathe, filter the water we drink , and provide habitat to over 80% of the world's terrestrial biodiversity. Diversity in nature equates to resilience. Planting billions of trees across the world is one of the biggest and cheapest ways of taking CO2 out of the atmosphere to tackle the climate crisis.

Planted Trees a charming story about the virtues of environmental stewardship and tireless service—both of which are very important. However, it is also a vision of the good things that happen when we care for the world around us, and take what was barren and make it green. I am a mentor, arborist and family man. I value my family, the work i do on a day to day and duty to society. I am driven by the change and impact I have for future generations to come. I coach people in different walks of life particularly the youth. I believe they should be guided by us to make their learning journey smoother. My passion is horticulture. I mostly focus on arboriculture because that’s where I feel the biggest gap is and also trees have a huge impact on climate change. Trees extract carbon dioxide directly from the atmosphere. As odd as it sounds I also communicate with these trees to cater to their needs. This has granted me great success in my tree planting journey. I believe in bringing value in whatever role I play.

energy is one

make up the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development

Achieving this by 2030 means investing in clean energy sources such as solar, wind and thermal. Adopting cost-effective standards for a wider range of technologies could also reduce the global electricity consumption by buildings and industry by 14 percent

The Center for Climate and Energy Solutions (C2ES) estimates that electricity produced by solar power will rise to 48% of renewable energy An organization going green benefits not only the environment but also the company’s own growth. Going green is a change and increasingly a necessity for organizations to progressively complement their energy requirements by introducing solar energy into its energy mix. And this is in line with alignment to SDG 7:

Affordable

and Clean Energy

This year we had the honor of working with the Kenya Pipeline Company The organization intends to explore renewable energy to progressively complement its energy requirements by introducing solar energy into its energy mix.

Kenya Pipeline Company Limited (KPC) is a Kenyan state corporation that has the responsibility of transporting, storing, and delivering petroleum products to the

consumers of Kenya by its pipeline system and oil depot network. The organization operates a pipeline system for transportation of refined petroleum products from Mombasa to Nairobi and western Kenya towns of Nakuru, Kisumu and Eldoret Working closely with the National Oil Corporation of Kenya, KPC operates 5 storage and distribution depots for conventional petroleum products, located in Eldoret, Kisumu, Mombasa, Nairobi and Nakuru

This project is set to produce 225kwp at the KPC (Kenya Pipeline Company) HQ The Adrian team was tasked to Design, supply, install, test, and commissioning of a solar power plant

This project will reduce the Kenya Pipeline company electricity costs overall and adopt cleaner energy for the organization's activities. As works for the Solar PV plant

continue, we cannot wait to share the difference that adopting solar energy will have had on the organization. We urge more organizations to consider adopting solar energy solutions in their organizations.

Adrian Kenya is in the development and delivery of end-to-end solar PV solutions in Africa. We are proud for the opportunity to undertake a project to design, supply, install and commission a solar PV plant for our client, Kenya Pipeline Company We leverage on our capacity to realize short turnaround time (TAT) and low levelized cost of energy (LCOE)

MENTORSHIP Mindset Fosters A Learning

Conversation By:

Peter Njoroge joined Adrian in Dec 2017 as an Intern in Finance department. He is currently in Finance Treasury department working as a Treasury Officer Treasury involves the management of money and financial risks in a business. Its priority is to ensure the business has the money it needs to manage its day-to-day business obligations, while also helping develop its long term financial strategy and policies.

Peter Njoroge Wangari Kamweru - Interviewer

1. How were you able to move from the positioned you joined as to where you are now?

I believe it has to do with my willingness to learn and be humble That ’s the key to anyone’s success. However as far as my field is concerned being keen to detail is

essential. Dealing with numbers requires a close eye. I am also a team player with exceptional interpersonal skills which allows me to relate well with everyone. I take full responsibility of my career growth and have every intention of climbing the corporate ladder

2. What goals you set for yourself this year and how do you plan on meeting them?

I have a few but I would say I am looking forward to advancing my career by taking an extra course or two, learning the roles and functions of other departments extensively and gaining valuable industry knowledge and experience. Finally I intend on serving as a role model within the organization and society as a whole

3. What is your proudest moment at the company over the past year?

Definitely when we achieved our overall revenue target last year

4. What is your ambition at Adrian Kenya/where do you see yourself in 5-10 years?

I am looking for the next challenge to improve and develop my finance skills set in order to be an expert and agile in all finance related fields. My ultimate goal in five years time is to master my position and advance into a managerial role within my department. I also intend on putting the young people under my wing and mentoring them in order to become finance gurus. The youth are our future and we should strive to pass down our skills and wisdom to them because one day they will take over from us.

5.

What would you tell someone starting out at Adrian in terms of career growth?

I will mirror my earlier comments and say learning is the key to ones carrier growth. Learning should be a continuous process throughout your life and is the road to improvement. I will also say developing the right attitude towards your job is important An individual’s attitude dictates a lot about their productivity and overall happiness at the work place Lastly, I would also advise new employees to be flexible, adaptive and collaborative. No pain no gain, the journey is not for the faint hearted.

6. If you had to name one person who inspires you, who would it be?

Mr Benard Njoroge the Managing Director here at Adrian. He is a go getter, risk taker, visionary and daring leader. Nothing seems impossible with him. His passion for entrepreneurship is on another level.

7. What would you do if you won the lottery?

I would invest first and foremost to keep the money flowing probably in real estate and cryptocurrency. Buy some shares in 20 fortune 500 companies. Then proceed to buy a mansion in a leafy suburb preferably in Nairobi, Johannesburg or Mombasa while driving around in a Mercedes-Benz Glc coupe 300d 4matic 2020 . Travel around the world for a while making pit stops in France, Maldives, Singapore and Italy. Maybe join politics as well. It would be interesting.

8. What is the scariest thing you have done for fun?

I would definitely say camping in a game reserve at night in Maasai mara or that one time I went zip lining

If the digital economy was a living , breathing thing , the data centre would undoubtedly fulfil the role of its nervous system. Every time a user stimulates a device or app, news of this action invariably passes to a data centre to bring about a timely and appropriate response

What is a data center?

Data centers form the backbone of thousands of businesses and hundreds of governments –hosting critical operational and proprietary assets in a highly secure, centralised, and increasingly virtualised environment. There are well over 7.2 million data centers in the world as of now. This number does not seem that big when you realise that our planet generates over 2.5 million terabytes of data every day –and that is only going to grow exponentially as 5G, IoT, Industry 4.0, etc. take over.

What is a data center?

A data center is typically a physical facility or location that organisations use to house their core business applications, information, and data. Data centers facilitate the centralisation of an enterprise’s IT infrastructure and enable the storage, processing , dissemination, and maintenance of data, applications, workloads, and critical equipment on physical or virtual servers. Consequently, data centers are highly secure and controlled environments that play a vital role in business continuity

WHY IS INSURANCE SO CRUCIAL?

At some point in our lives, all of us aspire to financial freedom , and when it comes to achieving it, we frequently think that having money is sufficient

to maintain financial stability. But if you approach life realistically, you will realize that general insurance plans are just as crucial to protecting your possessions as saving money; they are necessary to achieve financial freedom.

savings to have are

Some individuals, however, think that they do not need insurance coverage because they have sufficient savings to replace their assets in the event of an accident. But imagine yourself in a position where you must spend everything you have ever saved to pay for medical expenses or a car that needs repair and the funds are not available

Having an insurance policy is essential since it ensures you are financially secure to face any type of challenge in life, and this is why insurance is considered an important part of financial planning tools in the business. At Entreplat insurance brokers, we assist our clients in choosing the right insurance policies at affordable prices and settle claims when they arise. Here are the Main Reasons Why Having Insurance is Necessary:

1. Financial Stability

No matter how much you are earning or how much you have saved; your financial position can be dented by an unexpected event at a moment Without insurance, it will be extremely costly for businesses to bounce back after a major loss of inventory

Natural hazards, accidents, theft, or burglary can affect the financial status of a business or a family With Insurance compensating a large part of the losses businesses and families can bounce back rather easily

disability, and even death- you save yourself and your family from tension and stress. With insurance in place, any financial stress will be taken care of, and you can focus on your recovery

2. Protection for You and Your Family

2. Protection for You and Your Family is and emergency.

Family is the most important asset that you have and your family also depends on you for financial support This is why it is important to make sure that you and your family are completely secure to face any emergency. None of us can see the future or predetermine future risks. Any unforeseen tragedy can leave you physically, mentally, and financially strained. So, if you have insurance to take care of the outcomes of such tragedies as illness, injury or permanent

3.

The contract of insurance works on the 'principle of transfer of financial risk from the insured to the insurer'. As an insured, you pay premiums to receive compensation from the insurer, in case of the occurrence of an unforeseen

event So, having insurance reduces the financial burden on your shoulders and helps in managing cash flow uncertainty, and provides payment for covered losses when they occur Therefore,

Insurance facilitates loans to individuals and organizations by guaranteeing that the lender will be paid if the collateral for the loan is destroyed or damaged by an insured event This reduces the lender's uncertainty of default by the party borrowing funds.
