Many Penrite oils have been formulated for the unique Australasian conditions and this philosophy has been captured by the Extra Ten. If the SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers) industry recommends a SAE 10W 40 viscosity grade, Penrite makes a 10W 50 (ie: HPR10) Penrite’s Extra Ten provides the same start-up pumpability as its competitor products but superior wear protection at operating temperatures. For petrol only engines, Enviro GF – 5, is now GM dexos1 licensed. What does this really mean for workshops?

It was an amazing feat…a feat which set a new world record…a feat which proves you should be using Wynn’s oil supplements to reduce friction and wear in your car. On April 15th, 1984, all the oil was drained from the engine of a standard Holden Commodore that had been previously treated with Wynn’s patented Friction Proofing™ oil supplement. The aim was to complete the marathon oil-less journey in 24 hours, without once switching off the Commodore’s engine. Amazingly, both aims were achieved and the car reached Alice Springs right on schedule. Even more amazingly, Wynn’s provided such complete protection that the Commodore’s engine was totally undamaged and has since been driven many thousands of kilometres with no sign of oil-burning or other problems.

Wynn’s does not advocate running any engine without the correct quantity and grade of lubricant. Gulf Western Oil says it has been involved with an ever-increasing number of oil analysis trials over the last few years, with a large majority of new customers changing over to a better product both in performance and overall costs. With monitoring via oil analysis, Gulf Western has managed to increase oil drain intervals with its premium products such as Top Dog XDO and Top Dog Global Plus within the transport, agriculture and earthmoving markets. Upgrades from CI-4 lubricants and lower are required for regulations controlling emissions with EGR (exhaust gas recirculation), DPF (diesel particulate filters), Ad-Blue or SCR (selective catalytic reduction) all requiring API CJ-4 Lubricant specifications. There are a number of possibilities in regard to consumption issues and most are not directly oil-related according to Gulf Western. In the past, detergents were the main cleaning agents in lubricants. Now, far more complex additive pack technologies have come into play which involves non-foaming dispersants that Gulf Western use instead of the older technology. These dispersants are commonly made mainly of calcium and magnesium which vary from blend and brand. Some are superior and completely different to others. This is one of the causes of oil consumption on brand and specification change. This consumption issue will usually clear with a
