MARRIAGE BUILDER

n a blended family, one or both spouses bring children with them from a previous marriage or relationship. Half of all families are blended families, and these relationships feature special dynamics that are present from the beginning. It's vital to understand these issues. One of the most significant ones is that people tend to enter a remarriage or blended family with lower trust and higher expectations. This is a difficult combination. Lower trust means having less good will toward a spouse, and more suspicion of motives and actions. This happens when a person enters a new relationship after having had their heart broken.

Divorce rates are higher in blended families because both spouses may be entering the marriage with low trust and high expectations.

In their first relationship, the other person was innocent until proven guilty. But in the new marriage, lowered trust means assuming guilt until proven innocent. Why? Because no one wants to get their heart broken again. Higher expectations result when the failures of someone's past leave them in a place where they refuse to put up with failure from a new spouse. They enter a marriage less forgiving, less gracious, and less welcoming. Divorce rates are higher in blended families because both spouses may be entering the marriage with low trust and high expectations. Marriage is trust. You can't marry and mistrust. In marriage, you are entrusting your life, your future, and 4

w w w. a d o n a i m a g . o r g

even your children to another person. After establishing trust, a couple must disassociate from the past. They need to forgive the wounds and failures of their past relationships and move on to the present. Past difficult experiences often lead to an inner vow. Inner vows are a type of long-term sin. When we go through pain, often we make ourselves promises to comfort ourselves. We say, "No man will ever treat me like that again" or "No woman will ever do that to me." Then we go through the rest of our lives protecting ourselves with that vow. These vows make us unteachable. Inner vows prevent Jesus from being Lord over that area in our lives. Every person makes inner vows when we face emotional pain—but we have to break those vows. Rather than keep control of that part of our lives for ourselves, we have to give that area to Jesus. In the process of getting free from the past, a couple also needs to focus on the future by dreaming new dreams together. That's why Karen and I always suggest that couples have a vision retreat. A husband and wife need to get away and talk about their plans for the future. They need to discuss their desires, their values, even their plans for children. During this retreat, both of you work through the issues in your past. Talk about them. Pray together about them. Ask God to help you forgive them. Then, determine that you will treat each other as innocent until proven guilty. You can't let the scars of your past become a harsh taskmaster in your marriage. Submit your marriage and blended family to God. Rather than letting your scarred emotions be the lord of your marriage, make Jesus Christ the Lord of your marriage. He has promised to heal your hearts—and He will.

herefore, dear friends, since you already know this, be on your guard so that you may not be carried away by the error of lawless men and fall from your secure position. 2 Peter 3:17, NIV The current belief battles going on within evangelical Christianity; make this admonishing by the Apostle Peter more relevant to the purity and health of our faith-walk. It suggests that if [Peter’s] readers were not careful, they could be carried away by the error of lawless men … The verb “carried away” emphasizes a group or corporate movement. False teachers are not satisfied with ambushing one or two, now and then, here and there; they want to sweep large groups of people away from the correct doctrine of Christ. Those who keep company with such people are in danger of being led astray. I don’t need or want to name prominent names or cite recent book titles or the like within the Christian bubble, as I’m sure that one or many have already come to your mind by this point in this editorial. Sadly, false teaching is everywhere these days and only seems to be gaining momentum as we head further into the twenty-first century. It’s alarming, for sure, to hear those who are in pastoral, shepherding or leadership positions mishandle God’s Word or imply that there is suddenly a new “change” in the meaning of scriptural doctrines that trained theologians and Bible scholars have agreed upon for centuries prior. But Truth is supposedly relative in the world where we now live. What’s true for you may not be true for me. So how do we arm ourselves and follow Peter’s instruction to “be on your guard” as 6

w w w. a d o n a i m a g . t v

believers? But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ (2 Peter 3:18). First, there’s grace; unmerited favor from God. How do we grow in that? By reminding ourselves continually of what God did for each and every one of us. If we don’t understand grace, then we will never know who God is, what he stands for and what a right relationship with him looks like. “While we were still sinners, Christ died for us” (Rom. 5:8). When we get that, in turn, our lives will be lived from a place of humility and in testimony of what God has done through us. And then there’s knowledge. We will only grow spiritually and know God as much as we can in this life if we know the Word. And that doesn’t begin and end only with what someone says the Bible says (which isn’t bad in and of itself). But it means reading the Bible for yourself on a continuing basis, so that it will take root in your heart and inform your thinking and your actions. There is no better way to mature in the Lord and know Truth (and be corrected in your thinking, if it’s “stinking”) than to spend time getting to know God through the Word. No one else can have your spiritual relationship for you. And anyone who leads you away from Truth is leading you away from a secure position. So be on your guard. And get in there, dig deep and know His unchanging truth (John 5:39). Are you ready to confront false teaching and see through the devil’s schemes to trick and deceive— even in Christian circles? Always consider the source and always measure what you hear or read against God’s Word (Acts 17:11).

God Has Seen Your Future And It Is Good!

A

t the end of 2004, during one of our services, the Lord told our church this: “I your God have gone ahead of you and I have already been to your future. I have seen it. And I declare that it is good.”

Although this word was given through me to our church, I believe that it is not only for our church, but also for every member of the body of Christ. Isaiah 54:2 “Enlarge the place of your tent, and let them stretch out the curtains of your dwellings; do not spare; lengthen your cords, and strengthen your stakes. I tell you, when God declares your future good, it will be good! It will be filled with many wonderfully good days! So what do you do when the Lord tells you that you are going to have a good future loaded with His blessings? You prepare for it! In other words, before the blessings come, before the increase comes, He wants you to enlarge the 8

w w w. a d o n a i m a g . t v

place of your tent and stretch forth the curtains of your dwellings. For example, if you are believing God for a child, start reading books on babies and preparing the baby’s room. In fact, prepare to have more than one child. Start looking for a bigger place for your family for God says, “Enlarge the place of your tent, and let them stretch out the curtains of your dwellings; do not spare; lengthen your cords, and strengthen your stakes.” Get ready for expansion! My friend, God wants you to get ready, and expect such favor and increase in the days ahead that “you shall expand to the right and to the left, and your descendants will inherit the nations, and make the desolate cities inhabited”. (Isaiah 54:3) Because God has declared your future good, know that you stand on favor ground today. Expect good things to happen to you. Expect to see the favor of God on you and your family. Expect the blessings and increase of the Lord. Expect many good days to show up in your life!

’ve been robbed! That is one of the first revelations I had after I started diligently studying the Word and realized I wasn’t living the life Jesus died to give me. At first it made me mad, but it was the truth I needed to hear to help me begin an amazing transformation to a life I can honestly say I now enjoy.

I

again, we receive the nature of everything God is in seed form. 1 John 3:9 (AMP) says, “God’s seed [His principle of life, the essence of His righteous character] remains [permanently] in him [who is born again—who is reborn from above—spiritually transformed, renewed, and set apart for His purpose]….”

For many years before this, I was a Christian but I wasn’t serious about my walk with God. As a result, I was miserable. I didn’t have any real peace or joy, and I felt guilty most of the time. In fact, if I didn’t feel

Seeds have to be watered and take root before they can produce fruit. And the fruit of having life in Christ is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control (Galatians 5:22-23 NLT). It’s freedom to deal with challenges and overcome them by God’s grace so others will see Christ in you and want what you have.

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. “wrong,” it didn’t seem right.

Thankfully, God showed me through John 10:10 that I didn’t have to be miserable and I could have abundant life in Christ. But I needed to change! I remember asking God to show me what I needed to do to become the person 2 Corinthians 5:17 (AMP) said I should be: “…A new creature [reborn and renewed by the Holy Spirit]; the old things [the previous moral and spiritual condition] have passed away. Behold, new things have come [because spiritual awakening brings a new life].” Have you ever thought, “If I’m so new, why do I act like the ‘old man’?” Well, becoming a “new creature” from the inside out is a process that takes time. When we accept Christ as our Savior and we’re born 10

The key to experiencing this life is identifying the thief, who has come “to steal and kill and destroy” you (John 10:10 NLT).

One of the Biggest Thieves in My Life

In John 10:10, Jesus tells us we have an enemy—the devil—who wants to keep us from God. But when you read the whole chapter, you see that Jesus is talking about the system of religion, which is perpetrated by the devil. Because the last thing the devil wants you to know is how much God loves you and how you can access everything you need to take back what he’s stolen from you through your relationship with Christ. When I realized that God loves me unconditionally and that He has a plan for my life, it helped me understand that He wanted a close, intimate, personal relationship with me. I discovered that the Christian life is not about religion but relationship. Because religion is a thief that keeps us from becoming transformed into the image of Christ.

KINGDOM TRUTH

Nothing is too hard for God Pastor Abraham Obadare

begin by saying God is who you say He is to you and responds the way you trust Him to; so it is as you say it is.

Jeremiah knew that nothing is too hard for God to handle: he verbalizes it in Jer 32:17, “Ah, Lord God! Behold, You have made the heavens and the earth by Your great power and outstretched arm. There is nothing too hard for You”, and God honors his statement. Now when he lodges his complaint to God in 32:24 he states, “Look, the siege mounds! They have come to the city to take it; and the city Believe that God will has been bring His promises to given into the pass, because God is hand of the not a man that He Chaldeans should lie; who fight against it, because of the sword and famine and pestilence. What You have spoken has happened; there You see it!” God responds to him according to the faith expressed in 32:27. God tells him, “Behold, I am the Lord, the God of all flesh. Is there anything too hard for Me?” Further, God says in 32:37, “Behold, I will gather them out of all countries where I have driven them in My anger, in My fury, and in great wrath; I will bring them back to this place, and I will cause them to dwell safely.” Therefore, if you believe that God can gather back unto you all that you have lost, He will, because God does not lie (Num. 23:19). If you believe that He will rejoice over you to do you good (32:41), yes He will, because God’s words do not return to Him empty (Isa. 55:11). 14

w w w. a d o n a i m a g . t v

If you believe that He will answer you when you call, He will (33:3). Don’t give up, keep praying and God will do the impossible. Elijah prayed and the impossible was done (James 5:16-18). If you believe He will bring you health, yes He will (33:6) If you trust God will restore to you the years you have lost, then He will (33:7). It does not matter under what circumstance the loss came or how long ago it happened, Jesus can bring everything back to you (Joel 2:25). Do you believe your terrible sins can be forgiven; sure, God is willing (33:8). I do not know what sin the paralytic committed, but Jesus forgave him (Mat. 9:1-6). This is to say that Jesus is able and willing to forgive your sins now if you believe it. Do you believe that a place that has been called desolate can be inhabited again and full of joy? Yes it is going to happen to you (33:10-11) In Gen 18:1-14, God states that nothing is too hard for Him. He gives a child to a woman who is already ninety years old (Sarah). I know of a woman who gave birth after age 50 and I thought it was the biggest surprise yet, only to hear now that God has given another woman of age 64 the ability to conceive. What can our God not do? Nothing. Believe that God will bring His promises to pass, because God is not a man that He should lie; continue in your prayers, because your prayers will avail for you divine blessings; continue in praise to His holy name, because He never fails; you will see God doing the impossible for you. When His glory is revealed in your life, it will be as if you are dreaming.

The Reason For Thanksgiving Auntie Elsie Email: at elsie@adonaimag.tv Tel: 347 449 5892

MEMORY VERSE, Psalm 136:1 Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good. His love endures forever.

W

hat does Thanksgiving mean to you? I guess you saying, "It means a big dinner." I think I agree with you. Who does not welcome and enjoy a good dinner? I hear Michael, Adepa, Samuel, Aaron and Angel, also say, "Thanksgiving means a day off from school." I guess you are right too. School is not such a charming place that girls and boys are willing to have an occasional holiday. I asked some of the older people what the day means to them. There is a young woman. She is a Secretary. She says, "Thanksgiving means a day away from the office. I am at the office every day except Sunday, and I do appreciate, now and then, a day that is really my own." Jayden is a traveling salesman. What does Thanksgiving mean to you? He says, "It means a day at home. Last year I spent one hundred and sixty-nine nights away from home. I have three children. I should like to see them every day. There are times when many days pass and I do not see them. Thanksgiving is a time week 18

w w w. a d o n a i m a g . t v

I plan to be at home." There are others I could ask. Each has his or her own answer. But Thanksgiving has a special meaning for us. It is the Harvest time. Imagine an apple in your hand. Isn't it a beautiful apple? The color! Who mixed the paints, who handled the brush to give such color to this apple? God! He, in His infinite love and wisdom, has provided, through the unfailing laws of nature, for the growth, sweetness, coloring and beautifying of all the products of the fields. This apple is but one of many kinds of fruits. Praise, then, is the great meaning of Thanksgiving. God, our heavenly Father, sends us every good gift. From His bountiful hand come our daily and gracious mercies. We should praise him every day for all the good things He is doing in our lives.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING
