BUGATTI BROUILLARD
The Most Exclusive Hypercar Ever!
Whatmakes a Chiron or any Bugatti look common place? Well, the Brouillard as seen here takes personalization to the next level in terms of developing cars just for the wealthiest car collectors in the whole world. It is the first product out of the Solitaire division which would be involved in developing the rarest of rare cars. It goes beyond even the Bugatti Sur Mesure division and Bugatti here would only make one or two cars a year for its very wealthy top-tier clients. The Brouillard is the first product and looks like a Mistral coupe while the name pays homage to Ettore Bugatti’s beloved horse. Here, the level of detail being lavished and customization goes beyond the traditional Bugatti and sky is indeed the limit here.
The design for the car is extreme and is gorgeous indeed while being layered with some of the traditional Bugatti details but with a more delicate look. There is the C-shape and the horseshoe grille but the exposed carbon plus the low-slung stance being juxtaposed with the Mistral like headlamps is what gives the car the presence which makes jaws drop. The design is flowing though and does not have the sharper styling as seen on the new Tourbillon. Inside, it is a lavish spread of materials being smothered with the typical Bugatti attention to detail. You get embroidered horse motifs in the door panels and seat back rests while the seats themselves are customized according to the owner’s preference.
Plus, it is finished with a unique leather patch layout too. The gear shifter is machined from a single block of aluminum and features a glass insert containing a miniature hand-crafted sculpture of Ettore’s favored horse and this car’s namesake. Underneath these creations, there would be the current Bugatti power-trains and chassis which means there is no complaining with the 1600bhp W16 engine along with the carbon/aluminum chassis. It will be spirited drive for sure but the owner will most probably park it in the living room and admire its lines. What is the price you may ask? It has not been disclosed but we would wager it would run many digits looking at the craftsmanship plus the exclusive status and the lavish engineering being bestowed to create this. For Bugatti, this is a start of even more extreme creations where owners make something tailor made and it does not get more bespoke than this.
RML GT HYPERCAR
Breaks Cover at Salon Privé 2025 with 920hp Power
| By Alina Rosa Leyva
At this year’s Salon Privé, RML Group Ltd, Britain’s acclaimed high-performance automotive engineering specialist, unveiled the first unit of its all-new GT Hypercar (GTH). The debut marks a milestone for the company as it combines four decades of championship-winning motorsport expertise with bespoke refinement tailored for the road.
The GTH, internally known as the P39 project, channels the DNA of Le Mans Hypercar racers such as the Porsche GT1, but with a vision squarely aimed at real-world usability With its sophisticated driver-selected active aero and adaptive damping systems, the GTH is as comfortable devouring lap records on a circuit as it is gliding along open roads. Making its first appearance in “Road Mode,” the launch car is doubly significant. Not only is it the first of 39 production models, but it is also one of just 10 40th Anniversary Special Edition (SE) variants. This rare specification adds exclusive interior detailing and upgrades while bundling both the Performance Pack and Track Pack. Highlights include selectable ride-height adjustment, a rear roll cage, and the removal of rear seats to emphasize track focus. Power has been elevated to a staggering 920hp and over 1000Nm of torque, the result of precision tuning in collaboration with Litchfield Motors.
Visually, the debut car exudes exclusivity. Finished in Storm Purple with a tinted visual carbon roof and bonnet, it sits on oversized gold center-lock wheels with gunmetal brake calipers. Gold hand-painted badging adds a final touch of artistry. Inside, the cabin carries the same bespoke detailing: Crayon stitching accents the retrimmed leather seats, Crayon-colored seatbelts match seamlessly, and body-colored carbon fibre inlays tie the interior to the bold exterior The roll cage is also finished in Storm Purple, completing the unified aesthetic.
“This is a proud day in RML history,” said Michael Mallock, Board Member responsible for the Bespoke Division. “The GT Hypercar was an ambi-
tious project, but it has exceeded even my own expectations both on road and track. I congratulate and thank the entire RML team for making these dream cars a reality.”
Paul Dickinson, CEO of RML Group, echoed the sentiment: “GT Hypercar demonstrates the very best of RML Group. Our ability to produce extraordinary world-beating products and solutions in record time and within budget is unmatched, as proven again here. Congratulations to our team and the first owner.”
The P39 codename itself is symbolic. It represents the 39th project car developed by RML since its inception in 1984. While many of the company’s “P Cars” remain confidential due to OEM collaborations, several notable projects are public—including the Nürburgring Nordschleife record-setting NIO EP9 prototype, which also appears at Salon Privé. That electric hypercar, built under the P31 project, showcased RML’s proprietary VarEVolt battery technology, underscoring the company’s dual mastery of combustion and electrification.
Founded by racing driver and engineer Ray Mallock, RML Group has spent more than 40 years engineering touring cars, GT racers, supercars, and advanced EV platforms. Today, operating out of its state-of-the-art facility in Wellingborough, the company continues to deliver design, development, and limited-series manufacturing to OEMs and discerning private clients—all under its enduring philosophy of Engineering Excellence.
The RML GT Hypercar is more than just a celebration of the company’s past achievements; it’s a bold statement of where performance engineering and bespoke craftsmanship can go next. With only 39 examples slated for production, its rarity ensures that each one becomes a rolling piece of history.
CALIFORNIA
CORVETTE CONCEPT
Points to the Future for this Sports Car
Our beloved sports car icons must evolve, and this new delectable concept from GM Studios gives a hint as to how the Corvette could look in the years to come. This futuristic concept looks like a spaceship but points at the Corvette of the sci-fi age, while it comes with an electric power-train.
“Our Advanced Design teams are dedicated to shaping the future, driving innovation, and exploring what’s possible,” said Bryan Nesbitt, vice president of global design. “The California Corvette concept is another example of forward-thinking design. We invited multiple GM studios to envision Corvette-inspired hypercars — the first of which was revealed by our UK studio in March. The California team has now delivered a complementary study that honors Corvette’s legendary performance, while infusing it with their own distinctive vision.”
Designed by the studio in Pasadena, as part of a global design project, the concept reeks of a futuristic vibe while also having a SoCal flavor. The California Corvette concept re-imagines this moniker as a hypercar with wide wheels, a tapered and narrow cockpit, along a single-piece front-hinged canopy. You can remove the upper shell and make it like a track car, but the front-end and the rear have a menacing look while also somehow adding some Corvette design details in them as well, including the central spine.
There is a lot of aerodynamics at play here too, with the edgy styling designed to maximize grip. There is no rear wing as the massive diffuser is enough, and the same thought process is in the interior, which is a minimalist affair. It is a racing simulator with an augmented-reality head-up display plus fixed seats to the carbon structure. It is raw and hardcore, but the interior does not physically exist, while you need to see it via a VR headset!
This concept is not intended for production but teases an all-electric future and shows which way the Corvette can go. Right now, it may be at its peak with the way it has been designed, but in the future, we can expect an all-electric iteration or an extreme supercar like this. The Corvette brand has potential, and GM is exploring this. For now, we are excited to see what the Corvette will turn out to be in the future, even if the thought of an electric ‘Vette could upset the loyal fan-base that this car has!
MERCEDES-AMG Redefining Electric Endurance at
| By Alina Rosa Leyva
Mercedes-AMG has once again proven its dominance in performance innovation. The CONCEPT AMG GT XX has stunned the automotive world after covering 40,075 kilometers in under eight days on the legendary Nardò test track in Italy. Averaging 300 km/h for nearly a week and a half, the prototype broke 25 endurance records, including the longest distance ever driven by an electric vehicle in 24 hours—a feat it repeated fourteen times in succession.
RECORD-BREAKING PERFORMANCE
Two GT XX prototypes shared the punishing laps, showcasing the brand’s ability to sustain extreme performance over long distances. In a journey dubbed “around the world in eight days,” the cars demonstrated not only speed but also the kind of consistency rarely seen in electric endurance testing.
This milestone continues Mercedes-Benz’s historic record-breaking tradition, harking back to the C111 experimental program of the 1970s and 1980s. Then, diesel and petrol innovations set new benchmarks; today, fully electric technology takes the spotlight.
NEXT-GENERATION POWERTRAIN
The GT XX is powered by three axial flux motors and a direct-cooled high-performance battery, innovations that will enter production next year on the AMG.EA architecture. Thanks to its Central Coolant Hub (CCH)—a compact system regulating the thermal balance of battery, motors, and electronics—the prototype delivered consistent performance without the de-rating common in most EVs.
Complementing this is a passive underbody cooling plate and advanced aerodynamics, ensuring high efficiency even under relentless speed. With a drag coefficient of
0.19 Cd, the GT XX cuts through the air with stability and efficiency comparable to a 90-kilogram weight saving.
LIGHTNING-FAST CHARGING
Sustained speed required equally fast pit stops. Partnering with Alpitronic, Mercedes-AMG built a temporary High-Power Charging Hub at Nardò, capable of delivering up to 850 kW—double the output of today’s fastest public chargers. Using a prototype CCS cable designed for 1000 amps, the GT XX recharged rapidly, maximizing track time and minimizing downtime.
FORMULA
1® INSPIRED INTELLIGENCE
Borrowing expertise from its Formula 1® program, AMG engineers optimized every aspect of performance through software. The Battery Management System (BMS) and Predictive Performance Manager (PPM) kept cells within optimal ranges while offering real-time driving strategies. At 300 km/h, the cars recuperated energy during deceleration and seamlessly returned to top speed after pit stops, mimicking a finely tuned racing cycle.
FUTURISTIC COCKPIT
The interior blends motorsport ergonomics
GT XX
with groundbreaking innovation. Custom 3D-printed seat pads ensured perfect driver fit, while biotechnology-based materials reinforced AMG’s sustainability goals. A highlight was the augmented reality racing helmet, which projected data like speed, charge levels, and lap cues directly into the driver’s line of sight—an innovation developed with ETH Zurich start-up Aegis Rider Helmets.
PARTNERS IN INNOVATION
Supporting the mission were global leaders: Michelin developed the Pilot Sport 5 Energy tires, engineered for grip, efficiency, and durability at extreme speeds.
Microsoft Azure powered MB.log, the cloud system monitoring live vehicle performance. Signify delivered intelligent lighting systems for visibility and safety on track.
THE FUTURE OF AMG PERFORMANCE
For Markus Schäfer, Mercedes-Benz CTO, the GT XX is a continuation of over a century of innovation:
“Now, with the CONCEPT AMG GT XX, we are redefining what’s possible in the age of electric drive.”
Michael Schiebe, CEO of Mercedes-AMG GmbH, emphasized real-world impact:
“Many of the GT XX’s innovations will enter production as early as next year, bringing customers a new dimension of sustained electric power.”
The GT XX is not just a record-breaker—it’s a blueprint for the next era of high-performance electric mobility. By combining aerospace-level aerodynamics, Formula 1® software, and next-generation battery technology, Mercedes-AMG is proving that the future of electric driving will be as thrilling as it is sustainable.

ST. AGNI & MODA OPERANTI
Creating a Capsule for the Season Ahead
WhenByron Bay minimalism meets New York edge, the result is a capsule collection that feels both grounded and striking. This September, Australian studio St. Agni joins forces with Moda Operandi for an exclusive eight-piece wardrobe designed for the shift into fall.
The collaboration draws from Bauhaus principles, balancing clean geometry with utility. The palette is sharp and cool, graphite layered with icy blue-gray, giving each piece a modernist precision. Streamlined tailoring sits alongside bold, simple shapes, creating a uniform that feels purposeful yet effortless.
“Our inspiration came from the Bauhaus school and its vision of bringing art into everyday life,” says Lara Fells, St. Agni’s Co-Founder and Creative Director. “We wanted to create clothing that was functional and minimal, yet deeply considered.”
Among the standouts are a puff leather jacket and long-line parka, outerwear with presence but designed to be lived in. A new degradé print, inspired by the shimmer of a city skyline, moves across silks in shades of graphite and steel blue, a subtle play of light and shadow.
For Moda Operandi, the partnership reflects its ongoing dialogue with St. Agni. “This is the ideal early fall capsule,” says Marc Rofsky, Moda Operandi’s Buying Director. “It has an urban sensibility, a sense of returning to the rhythm of city life after summer. The pieces are designed to be styled and restyled, mixed and matched into something entirely personal.”
It is a collaboration years in the making. Moda Operandi has long championed St. Agni’s refined approach, and the brand’s rise on the global stage makes this capsule a natural progression. The collection is not about excess, but about precision: versatile clothes that adapt to a modern life while carrying an elegance that endures.
The St. Agni x Moda Operandi capsule launches September 4, following a private VIP preview on September 2, available exclusively through modaoperandi.com.

Ayurvedic strategies have worked for 5000 years. Ayurveda means the knowledge of life.
“In my 30s, I definitely noticed a change in my skin. That’s when I started to ask questions like, ‘What did people before me do? Our adaptogenic-powered Ayurvedic-inspired treatments turn routine into ritual. And a luxurious experience. Not a chore.

L’AGENCE
Sets Fall 2025 in Motion with “Romantic Voyage”
Los Angeles-based fashion house L’AGENCE has built its reputation on blending laid-back California style with Parisian polish. Known for sharp tailoring, denim that has achieved cult status, and a loyal celebrity following, the label continues to grow internationally with boutiques and showrooms in New York, Paris, and Seoul.
For Fall 2025, L’AGENCE staged its collection inside one of New York’s most iconic travel landmarks, Grand Central Station. Presented under the title “Romantic Voyage,” the show brought together vintage sophistication and modern luxury inside Vanderbilt Hall. The fall collection is decadent in its silhouettes, materials, detailing, and color palette. The palette leaned deep and moody, with port, carafe brown, and midnight anchoring signature paisley, leopard, and floral prints. The collection balanced masculine and feminine influences, from structured three-piece suits to bra tops and corset detailing.
“Fall 2025 is about adventure. It is an homage to the restless, ever-changing spirit,” said Fashion Director Tara Rudes-Dann. “Both a menswear influence and a feminine vibe are present. Wherever she goes, we want her to feel confident and powerful.”
The brand’s expanding global presence was highlighted with a clock-tower motif that paid tribute to Los Angeles, New York, Paris, and Seoul. That international perspective carried through to the details, from filigree-rimmed buttons to tapestry-inspired fabrics and embroidered trim.
Outerwear was given extra attention, with
puffers in varying weights and lengths, custom Italian sherpas, and water-resistant windbreakers. Denim, the brand’s anchor, remains central with cult-favorite skinnies joined by a new barrel-leg cut.
“She is on the move, and we evolve with her,” said Co-Founder and Chairman Jeff Rudes.
For L’AGENCE, Fall 2025 is less about trend-chasing than about creating a wardrobe that travels well across climates and occasions. Romantic yet practical, it reflects the brand’s ability to make the classic feel fresh again.
maison crivelli’s CUIR INFRAROUGE
Brings Raspberry Into The Leather Game
| BY FELICITY CARTER
PHOTOS PROVIDED BY THE BRAND
Maison Crivelli is rolling out Cuir InfraRouge, a unisex extrait de parfum created with perfumer Jordi Fernandez, launching worldwide this month after a limited Selfridges debut last year. This latest entry in the Olfactory Shocks collection is built around the combination of supple leather and a vibrant raspberry accord, inspired by founder Thibaud Crivelli’s memory of drinking a raspberry cocktail at an electronic music festival. The result? Well, it’s a fragrance that’s playful and dark, neon-bright yet traditional.
Cuir InfraRouge opens with raspberry, bergamot, mandarin, and bitter orange before settling into a suede leather heart blended with orris, cinnamon, and cedarwood. The drydown is warmer and moodier, layering oud with
vanilla and tonka bean for long-lasting depth. And at 32%, this vegan extrait is designed to make a statement.
While Maison Crivelli presents it as unisex, Cuir InfraRouge also taps into a lineage of leather fragrances long associated with men’s perfumery. Leather has always carried an air of confidence and sophistication, and here it is reimagined with a bright raspberry twist that makes the fragrance feel unexpected and comtemporary.
Other Maison Crivelli Scents Men Already Love
Maison Crivelli doesn’t label its perfumes by gender, but several creations have become favorites among men. Oud Maracujá is a daring oud brightened with passion fruit and the Iris
Malikhân offers a fresh, woody spin on the scent. For those drawn to smoky and resinous notes, Papyrus Moléculaire delivers a dry edge perfect for incense fans, while Santal Volcanique omits spicy sandalwood, pepper, and coffee notes. Another favourite is the Ambre Chromatique, which layers a rich amber with a smoky depth for a strong and enduring evening statement.
Cuir InfraRouge slots into this lineup as the house’s leather-focused option, balancing depth and sensuality with an unexpected fruity flash. Packaged in the house’s terracotta bottles with anthracite grey boxes, Cuir InfraRouge will retail at £205 for 50ml and be stocked at leading retailers.
How to Get a Sculpted, Lifted Look at Home
If your skincare goals include firmer skin, smoother contours, and a more lifted look— without leaving your house, you’ll want to get familiar with the SkinCeuticals Lifting Facial featuring the new A.G.E. Interrupter Ultra Serum.
This isn’t just another serum-in-the-lineup situation. Backed by over 15 years of glycation research and three patents, the A.G.E. Interrupter Ultra Serum was designed to tackle the kind of aging that happens when collagen breaks down and sugar molecules start messing with your skin’s structure (aka glycation). Think forehead lines, sagging cheeks, softening jawlines—this serum is formulated to go after all of it.
It’s already a go-to in pro facial treatments, but it’s also been crafted for home use. The full A.G.E. Lifting Facial routine can slot right into your weekly skincare ritual, and it pairs nicely with in-clinic treatments like ultrasound if that’s part of your regimen. Here’s how to do it, step by step:
| BY FELICITY CARTER
Step 1: Apply the NEW A.G.E. Interrupter Ultra Serum
Start with freshly cleansed skin. Use upward strokes and light pressure to apply the serum evenly across your face. This helps absorption and kicks off the lifting process.
Step 2: Target the Eyes with A.G.E. Advanced Eye + Lifting Massage
While the serum is settling in, apply A.G.E. Advanced Eye to the under-eye area. Glide from the inner corners outward, then sweep above the brow, lifting through the arch. Keep your movements slow and controlled—it’s about precision, not speed.
Step 3: Press in A.G.E. Interrupter Advanced Warm the product between your palms, then press it into your face, focusing on the cheeks and forehead. Follow up with upward strokes to boost circulation and push those actives deeper.
Step 4: Try an Intra-oral Massage
Yes, it sounds intense—but it works. Slip on gloves and place your thumbs inside your cheeks, with your fingers supporting from the outside. Gently knead the muscles, especially around the jaw and nasolabial folds. It’s weirdly satisfying.
Step 5: Do a Little Facial Tapping
Remove the gloves and use your fingertips to lightly tap or pinch all over your face. This wakes up the skin, helps lymphatic drainage, and encourages better absorption of all the good stuff.
Step 6: Finish with a Gentle Sweep
Wrap it all up with a slow, outward sweep from the center of your face. It’s the final step to smooth everything out and lock in that lifted, fresh finish.
9 Pieces Worth Trying Now
September is that sweet spot between late-summer ease and full-blown fall mode. Tuckernuck’s latest roundup nails the vibe, mixing heritage classics with just-right seasonal upgrades. Here’s what stood out — and why they matter.
The Suede Mini | Call it suede season’s answer to a classic denim skirt. The caramel tone makes it surprisingly versatile, while the texture gives your outfit instant fall credibility. Pair it with knee-high boots for a 70s nod or swap in heels for a sleek night look. It’s the kind of piece you’ll wear on repeat without even trying.
The Fall Floral | Dark florals hit peak relevance in September. This sheath is body-skimming without being fussy, so it transitions easily from desk to cocktail hour. The print feels vintage, but the shape is clean and modern.
The Peasant Blouse | Not your standard white top. The embroidered lace adds just enough romance without going full prairie, and it’s exactly the kind of upgrade that makes old denim feel new. Half-tuck it for daytime or layer it under a blazer to balance out something more tailored.
The Essential Tote | Espresso suede is the kind of quiet luxury that works hard without shouting. Big enough to actually carry your life, polished enough to elevate jeans and sweaters. If you buy one bag this season, this is the smart move.
The Plaid Skirt | This isn’t schoolgirl plaid. Think power-dressing but softened with pleats. The check pattern leans menswear, which makes it perfect with a sharp loafer or even a slouchy knit for contrast. It’s basically the fall version of a wear-with-anything slip skirt.
The Chino Dress | Utility fabrics don’t usually lean feminine, but this dress pulls it off. The silhouette keeps it polished, so you can wear it on a weekday and not feel underdressed. Add boots and a trench and it’s fall energy.
The Cable Knit Crewneck | The boyfriend sweater, refined. Charcoal is the neutral of the moment, less harsh than black, coolor than beige. Oversized but structured enough to look intentional, it’s the sweater that saves you on mornings you don’t want to think too hard.
The Wool Coat | Your fall uniform starts here. The creamy car coat softens the edge of chocolate knits and cropped denim. It’s less “outerwear as necessity” and more “outerwear as outfit,” which is exactly the point once the temperature drops. 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9
The Loafer | They’ve cycled back into fashion headlines, but loafers never really left. This season they’re less preppy, more effortless. Wear them with socks and skirts for that street-style nod, or keep it simple with trousers. They’ll anchor everything.
The new RM 33-03 Automatic is Richard Mille’s latest take on the round case. Following the RM 33-02, it adds more technical detail while keeping the ergonomic ease of the earlier model. The result? Well, it’s a round watch with clear echoes of the brand’s tonneau lines.
Movement
The RMXP3 caliber drives the watch, a skeletonized automatic movement just 3.28mm thick. Its off-center platinum micro rotor winds in both directions on ceramic bearings, maximizing efficiency while staying slim. The movement rests on a titanium baseplate treated with Titalyt for hardness and stability, with black PVD-coated bridges adding both rigidity and contrast.
A semi-instantaneous date sits at 5 o’clock, with a small seconds at 6 o’clock, a rare feature for Richard Mille. Applied red gold numerals are mounted on titanium rails above the caliber, heightening the three-dimensional effect of the open-worked design.
“The idea is to accentuate the volumes within the caliber. The empty and full spaces created by the high degree of skeletonization also set up a play of shadow and light,” says Cécile Guenat, Creation and Development Director at Richard Mille.
Case and variations
Two versions are available: one in full grade 5 titanium, the other in Carbon TPT with a 5N red gold caseband. Both measure 41.7mm in diameter and 9.7mm in thickness, dimensions that make the watch slim and versatile on the wrist. The strap follows the case lines with cutouts at 6 and 12 o’clock, extending the visual flow.
With the RM 33-03 Automatic, Richard Mille continues its focus on advanced materials, precise engineering and contemporary watchmaking design – known signatures of the brand.
GHD Launches Rehab Range for heat-activated Hair Repair
| BY ELAINE PILLEY
GHD is back with a new range of haircare products, and it›s a set of heat-activated leavein treatments that work with styling tools to strengthen, smooth and thicken hair.
Apply to wet hair, then dry or style as normal, as the heat activates the formulas to smooth the cuticles, fill gaps and hold in moisture. The line includes Damaged Hair Repairer for breakage, Dry Hair Nourisher for frizz, Fine Hair Thickener for volume, and Split End Sealer that protects for up to 10 washes, that come in handy when summer takes its toll on your hair.
On the range, Dafydd Thomas, GHD’s Global Director of Education, says, “Each version of GHD rehab is a heat-activated leave-in treatment, an easy step between washing and drying a client’s hair, and styling it beautifully with GHD tools. The heat of the styling tool activates the formulation, allowing it to penetrate even further into the hair while sealing the cuticle. It’s super easy for clients to treat their hair at home – just apply after washing, before drying and styling. No fuss, no waiting time, just incredible, salon-worthy results.”
These products have been designed to fit easily into everyday routines at home, and consumer tests have shown that most users saw softer, stronger, healthier hair after use.
TOMMY HILFIGER
puts Prep on the Racetrack for Fall 2025
Tommy Hilfiger is taking preppy style off campus and onto the track this fall. The brand’s new campaign, The Hilfiger Racing Club, re-imagines classic American prep through the lens of luxury motorsport nostalgia. The result is less about tradition for tradition’s sake and more about shaking it up with energy, color, and a touch of speed.
Fronting the campaign are actor Nicholas Hoult and supermodel Claudia Schiffer, a duo that hits both fresh star power and timeless fashion icon status. Shot by Glen Luchford, the imagery captures them in a world of vintage cars and track-side ease,

embodying Hilfiger’s knack for pairing heritage with reinvention. Hoult, a trained race driver with a love for motorsport, leans into the camaraderie of the scene, while Schiffer channels sleek glamour with a preppy twist.
“Re-imagining prep has been at the heart of my creative vision for 40 years,” Hilfiger says. “From the beginning, I’ve blended classic American style with vibrant cultural influences, and I’m excited to continue that legacy of gatecrashing tradition.”
The clothes match the mood. Prep codes are pulled apart and put back together in new ways: tartan shirting layered under rugbys, Oxfords paired with crest sweatshirts, pleated skirts worn with relaxed denim and the American Icon bag. Outerwear gets a rework too, with barn jackets updated in water-repel-
lent finishes and a standout trench cut from responsible wool. It’s familiar, but made to feel less buttoned-up and more alive.
This campaign also marks the first chapter of You’re Invited, No RSVP Required, a new series of style statements from Hilfiger that emphasize defiance, freedom, and individuality. It’s a continuation of the brand’s long-running habit of pushing prep into unexpected spaces, from hip-hop stages to the Formula 1 paddock, and now, the racetrack.
Hoult sums it up saying, “There’s tradition, but it’s full of life and a sense of fun. It reflects the classic American prep style Tommy’s known for — timeless and effortlessly cool.”
The Fall 2025 collection is available now on tommy.com, in Tommy Hilfiger stores worldwide, and through select partners.
YOKO LONDON’S ZYYP COLLECTION Pearls Without Rules
| BY FELICITY CARTER
There’s a certain thrill in discovering jewelry that refuses to play by tradition. Yoko London’s Zyyp Collection does exactly that. It takes the elegance of pearls, infuses them with diamonds and gold, and then bends the rules with a quiet audacity.
The collection’s signature is its zipper-inspired mechanism, an ingenious detail that allows each piece to shift and reshape. One necklace can skim the collarbone with subtle restraint, then extend into a sweeping line that commands attention at night. It’s movement
translated into luxury, sculptural, fluid, and endlessly adaptable.
This new chapter of Zyyp, introduced under Yoko London’s New Icons campaign, broadens the collection with designs that feel fresh and striking. Sleek short forms balance against dramatic long-line creations, while diamond-rich statement pieces sit alongside minimalist accents. The effect is a world of possibilities: jewelry that feels as fearless as it does refined. Michael Hakimian, CEO of Yoko London, frames it simply: “Zyyp was born from the idea
of re-imagining the everyday action of movement into a luxury experience. It’s jewelry that adapts to the wearer, fearless, functional, and truly unique.”
In essence, Zyyp is not just about decoration, it’s about transformation. Each piece becomes an emblem of individuality, designed to move with the rhythm of a modern life.
The Zyyp Collection is now available at Yoko London’s Sloane Street flagship, through select stockists, and at yokolondon.com.
LANCOME introduces LA VIE EST BELLE VANILLA NUDE A Delicious
New Chapter in Scent

Lancôme Introduces La Vie Est Belle Vanille Nude: A Delicious New Chapter in Scent
Lancôme has launched its first musky vanilla fragrance, La Vie Est Belle Vanille Nude, described as a celebration of sensuality and self-connection. The new Eau de Parfum blends indulgence with intimacy, inviting wearers to embrace life’s pleasures and “embark on a love affair with yourself.”
Crafted by legendary French perfumers Dominique Ropion and Anne Flipo, the fragrance layers glazed Bourbon vanilla from Madagascar with luminous jasmine sourced from Lancôme’s Domaine de la Rose in Grasse. A base of creamy white musk and sandalwood gives the composition its lasting warmth.
Perfumer Anne Flipo explains that its character “creates an intimate connection between the fragrance and the skin. It reveals a more sensory
vision. The sillage is carnal, enveloping, and voluptuous, the texture is creamy.”
Her collaborator Dominique Ropion calls it “a soft yet deeply sensual ode to intimacy,” noting that “the powdery elegance of orris blends with the radiant jasmine from the Lancôme’s Domaine de la Rose in Grasse, adding brightness and velvety depth.”
Inspired by French pâtisserie, the scent has been compared to a crème pâtissière, designed to extend happiness with every note. More than a perfume, Lancôme positions it as a skin scent with exceptional longevity, delivering up to five hours of intensity that carries easily from day to evening.
La Vie Est Belle Vanille Nude reflects a gourmand vision of modern femininity, at once delicate, decadent, and deeply personal.
AT HOME WITH MELANIE CALDER RUSSO
Principal Designer and Owner of Calder Design Group, Melanie Calder Russo gives us a sneak peek into her Long Island home, which she shares with her husband, their two children, and a Shih Tzu named Coco Chanel.
Melanie, please tell us a bit about yourself.
I am a married mother of two, currently living on Long Island, but deeply connected to New York City, where I was born, raised, and where my design office remains. I studied journalism at NYU with the dream of one day joining the editorial world of Vogue. After graduation, however, my path led me in a different but natural direction—into my family’s interior design business, following in my father’s footsteps. I quickly discovered that the creativity and inspiration I once envisioned for fashion translated seamlessly into interiors. For more than twenty years, I have been fortunate to pursue my true passion: creating spaces that are as stylish as they are livable, and that reflect the individuality and spirit of those who inhabit them.
| BY HELÉNE RAMACKERS
Did you have an influence in your youth that shaped your career path?
My father was without question the biggest influence on my career path. He started his interior design business in the early 1970s, and as a little girl I loved tagging along with him to job sites. I was fascinated watching spaces evolve under his care, but one project at UN Plaza is etched in my memory. He had hired a painter to faux-finish the doors so they looked upholstered and tufted, and the effect was so realistic it felt like magic. I couldn’t believe how something so ordinary could be transformed into something so special. I returned to that apartment with him many times, and I’ll never forget the day of the final installation—seeing my father personally hand-deliver and fluff the pillows, making sure every detail was perfect. Watching that apartment come to life from raw space to a beautifully finished home made me so proud of him, and it was the first time I truly understood the impact of his work—and why it was so meaningful.
Please tell us more about your home. I live on the South Shore of Long Island, just a few minutes from Robert Moses Beach, which has become such a natural
extension of our lifestyle. We purchased our home ten years ago after moving from Brooklyn, and it’s a four-bedroom, twoand-a-half-bath, two-story house that we’ve slowly shaped into a reflection of how we live. The first transformation we took on was the backyard. Summer and outdoor living are at the heart of our family life, so we created a retreat complete with a pool, a wraparound Ipe deck, and a spacious cabana outfitted with a full kitchen and wood-burning pizza oven—the perfect spot for gathering with friends and family. More recently, we added a pool house with a lounge for the kids and a gym, giving the space even more versatility. Next on my list is a full kitchen renovation, which I’m both excited and a little indecisive about—there are so many directions I could take it!
You are the Principal/Owner of Calder Design Group. Did you opt to do your home’s own interior design? Yes, I absolutely design my own home. My husband is a contractor by trade, which makes for the perfect partnership—I dream it up, and he brings it to life. For the most part, he’s wonderfully open to my ideas, and if there’s ever something he’s not completely sold on, we work through
it together until we find a solution that makes us both happy. It’s a true collaboration, and I think that balance is what makes our home feel so personal and loved.
How would you best describe your design style?
I’d say my style is a thoughtful mix of classic and contemporary, with plenty of room for personality. I’m drawn to interesting lines, layered textures, and, of course, a good dose of color. At home, I like to keep my walls crisp white—it’s the perfect backdrop and gives me the freedom to play. If I decide to reupholster a chair in a bold fabric or swap in vibrant pillows, I know everything will still feel cohesive. I also have a soft spot for mid-century pieces; they add that touch of character and timeless cool that keeps a space from ever feeling too serious. For me, design should always feel stylish, but never predictable.
Where / what / who inspires your design style?
As a designer, I’m always on the lookout for inspiration—it’s everywhere if you know how to see it. I love popping into hotels, whether in New York City or abroad, just to take in the lobbies, bars, and restaurants—they’re like runways for interiors. Fashion is a huge influence, too. I approach a room much like I would an outfit: layering textures, mixing patterns, playing with color, and sometimes taking a bold risk that makes the space pop. It’s all about creating a look that feels effortlessly pulled together, yet full of personality.
How do you keep things fresh and new in terms of decorating?
I love keeping my spaces feeling fresh and lively with little updates that make a big impact. Switching out pillows, vases, or decorative accents is an easy way to give a room a whole new vibe. In the bedroom, I often refresh the bedding—sometimes it’s a pop of color, sometimes a new pattern—and suddenly the whole space feels renewed. It’s a fun way to experiment, mix things up, and keep your home feeling dynamic without doing a full renovation.
Is there a specific color you are drawn to in interior design?
I’m drawn to color in all its forms—I love a bold, dramatic statement or just a little pop against a crisp black-and-white backdrop. That said, I always like to balance it with something natural, like wood or a warm neutral tone. It’s
that touch of realism that grounds a room and keeps it feeling livable. When you’re experimenting with color, it’s easy for a space to feel too whimsical, so adding a natural element keeps it stylish yet comfortable—perfect for real life.
Do you believe in repurposing?
Absolutely—I’m a big believer in repurposing! Many of the pieces in my home have stories to tell, whether they’re family heirlooms I’ve given a new life, vintage treasures I’ve scored along the way, or items from earlier chapters of my life. I love how these pieces add character and personality, often sparking conversation with guests. With a little creativity and care, even the oldest finds can feel fresh, modern, and totally your own—bringing a sense of history and heart to every room.
Do you have any special heirloom pieces? Some of my favorite heirloom and vintage pieces have incredible stories. There’s a vintage Art Deco cocktail table from my parents’ first pre-war apartment on Fifth Avenue, and a pair of vintage mid-century lounge chairs that bring timeless charm to my home. I also found a stainless steel bar cart at a flea market and updated it with black-and-white veined marble shelves for a modern twist. One of my absolute favorites is a vintage wood dining table with brass inlay that my husband rescued from a job site—it was slated for the trash! Years later, we were thrilled to see it featured on the cover of Architectural Digest in a photoshoot. These pieces are not just functional—they carry history, character, and a little bit of magic.
Which part of your home is you favorite?
In the warmer months, my backyard is truly heaven on earth. If I’m not lounging by the pool, you’ll find me in the cabana, laptop in hand, catching up on work while feeling like I’m on a perpetual vacation. On those dreary East Coast winter days, my favorite spot shifts indoors to the living room. It’s filled with warmth, color, and cozy corners—perfect for curling up with a book or snuggling with family.
In which part of your home do you spend the most time?
Being Italian and an avid cook, I spend most of my time in the kitchen! I absolutely love cooking, and in the summer, you’ll usually find me whipping up meals outside in the cabana. It’s also one of the reasons my kitchen renova-
tion has been delayed for so long—I honestly don’t know how I’d survive without a functional kitchen while it’s being remodeled!
May I please ask who you share your home with?
As an expert in your field, were / are you open to design suggestions from them, especially your child(ren)?
I share my home with my husband of 18 years and our two children, Sophia (14) and Anthony (11), along with our spirited five-year-old Shih Tzu, Coco Chanel. My kids love being part of the design process. For her thirteenth birthday, Sophia completely redesigned her room, creating her own floor plans and mood boards. Now Anthony is eager for his own bedroom revamp, and I recently took him shopping to start bringing his vision to life. It’s such a joy to see them express their creativity and put their own personal stamp on their spaces.
Do you have any designers that inspire you?
I draw inspiration from both personal and professional influences. Naturally, my father, Nicholas Calder, has always been my biggest design hero. Beyond that, I’m inspired by the bold creativity of Kelly Wearstler, the timeless elegance of William Haines, the theatrical flair of Tony Duquette, and the sophisticated use of color and pattern by David Hicks. Their work reminds me to take risks, mix textures, and always let personality shine through in a space.
Parting thoughts?
“Design is like creating the perfect outfit for a home—layering textures, mixing patterns, adding bold pops of color, and sprinkling in personality so every space feels stylish, lively, and completely your own.”

THE BOWERS & WILKINS PX7 S3 pairs refined design with uncompromised sound
| BY FELICITY CARTER
Bowers & Wilkins has long been associated with high-fidelity sound and considered craftsmanship. Founded in the UK in 1966, the brand has earned its place in some of the world’s most renowned recording studios and living rooms. Alongside its technical credentials, it has built a cultural presence through interesting collaborations, cue McLaren and campaigns fronted by the likes of David Beckham.
The Px7 S3 is its most advanced wireless headphone to date. Drawing on decades of acoustic research, it offers a cleaner, more natural sound and a design that feels lighter, more refined and purposefully understated. Inside are newly re-engineered 40mm drivers powered by a dedicated headphone amplifier. The result is sound with depth and space, abundant in detail and free from exaggeration. Every part of the audio chain has been tuned with precision, from the physical angle of the drivers to the materials used in the suspension system; whether you are listening over USB-C or using high-resolution wireless formats like aptX Lossless, the sound remains
consistent for joyful listening.
As for the noise cancellation, it’s been elevated too. Now there are eight microphones that work together to reduce external sound without flattening the listening experience. Voice clarity during calls is also noticeably improved through smart processing and subtle microphone placement.
Design has always been central to Bowers & Wilkins as a brand, and it’s no surprise then, that the Px7 S3 continues this ethos. It is slimmer and more sculpted than its predecessor, with softer memory foam ear cups and a headband that sits closer to the head. The materials feel considered and luxurious, designed to complement your environment. Plus, there are a few shades to choose from: Anthracite Black, Indigo Blue and Canvas White.
Battery life reaches up to 30 hours with noise canceling active. A quick 15 minute charge provides an additional seven hours of listening. Physical buttons have been redesigned to feel more intuitive and tactile, allowing for full control without relying on the
app. When it comes to their associated tech, the companion app offers custom EQ settings along with access to True Sound mode, the brand’s own tuning developed at its acoustic research center in Southwater.
Try the Px7 S3 and the clarity is instantly apparent. The sound is poised and expressive, revealing detail without ever feeling overstated. Its design follows the same approach, it’s refined, comfortable and carefully judged. This is a headphone for those who value the finer details, in both how their music sounds and how their technology is designed.
SARAH AKBARY
Creating Spaces That Elevate Daily Life
| BY HEL É NE RAMACKERS
With her personal connection with her clients, Sarah Akbary fashions interiors which are timeless, elegant and functional. She spoke with Upscale Living magazine about what it takes to run a full-service interior design firm, and shaping an environment that supports the way her clients live.
Sarah, please tell us a bit about yourself. I grew up in California, born in San Diego and raised in Los Angeles. As the oldest of three girls, I naturally took on responsibility early, helping my mom and caring for my younger sisters. From a very young age, I loved hosting and creating order, always drawn to making things beautiful. Even when I played with Barbies, I wasn’t interested in the dolls themselves, I spent all my time setting up their homes, closets, and furniture.
In college, I initially studied medicine, drawn to math and science, but I quickly realized that while I excelled, my true passion was design. Every apartment I lived in became my canvas, always on a budget, but layered with creativity and warmth. Friends constantly asked me for advice, and I began to recognize design could be more than a hobby.
I eventually enrolled in UCLA’s Interior Architecture program, taught by brilliant architects and mentors, and graduated in two years. Soon after, I began working at a boutique firm specializing in high-end residential projects. That experience gave
me the foundation to manage large-scale homes at the highest level of design and confirmed that this was the world I wanted to be part of.
Did you have an influence in your youth that shaped your career path?
Yes. My mother was my greatest influence. She has always had an incredible eye for detail, style, and organization. Whether she was setting a table, pulling together an outfit, or making our home feel warm and inviting, she did everything with elegance and intention. She inspired me in countless ways, and I found myself wanting to emulate her. Her natural sense of style and her ability to create beauty in everyday life had a profound impact on me and still shapes how I design today.
When and why did you start your firm, Sarah Akbary Interiors?
After training at the boutique firm, I gained valuable experience designing high-end residential projects. But when the recession hit around 2009–2010, the firm downsized, and like so many others, I
was let go. It was a difficult time, but also a defining one.
Clients I had worked with began referring me, and I soon had projects of my own. That’s how Sarah Akbary Interiors began. It wasn’t the easiest time to launch a business, but I’ve always had an entrepreneurial spirit and a clear vision for the kind of practice I wanted to create. Once I stepped out on my own, I never looked back. Building my firm gave me the freedom to design thoughtfully, personally, and at the scale I knew I was meant to.
What does a day in the life as the founder of a full-service interior design firm entail?
No two days are alike. My mornings usually start with a long list of emails, some from vendors or contractors I’ve been waiting on, others with follow-ups that need immediate attention. There are often early site calls with questions, no matter how detailed the plans are. That’s just part of the process. Once I’m in the office, I review ideas and updates with my team. We prepare presentation boards, pull materials, and make sure

the studio is ready for client meetings. Even when a week feels neatly planned, things shift, meetings move, schedules change. It keeps the work dynamic, and that unpredictability is part of what I love about design.
Please talk us through the process of designing amazing homes for your clients.
It all begins with listening. We sit down with clients and ask about their daily routines, their favorite things, and even what they absolutely dislike. Those “don’ts” are often the most revealing. Many bring us photos of spaces they love, often from our own portfolio, and we’ll break down what exactly draws them in, for example was it the lighting, the palette, the balance of materials?
We also discuss budget early, so expectations align with possibilities. From there, the creativity unfolds. Personally, I love sourcing natural stone, finding the perfect slab for a kitchen, bath, or even a custom piece of furniture often sets the tone for the entire palette.
We always begin with furniture and detailed floor plans to establish flow and function. Space planning is essential because a home must work beautifully before it can look beautiful. From there, we move into the details: kitchens, bathrooms, cabinetry all of which I love designing. Those conversations get very personal, but that’s how we create spaces that elevate daily life. My goal is always to help clients feel more organized and supported, with homes that truly enhance their lifestyle.
How hands-on are you with each project?
I’m very hands-on. Clients hire me for my vision, and they expect to see me throughout the process. My team handles logistics and coordination, but I do the designing, and I’m always present for meetings, installations, and major milestones.
Being directly involved allows me to listen to clients, interpret their feedback, and ensure the design reflects their vision. Installation days are some of my favorite moments, I love seeing the months of work come together. Perhaps one day I’ll step back from site visits, but when it comes to working with clients, I can’t imagine being anything but fully engaged.
Your design spaces with a contemporary sensibility, blending clean lines, natural light, and thoughtful details to create environments that feel both welcoming and sophisticated. Please talk us through that process. Everything starts with a strong floor plan. Scale is essential, pieces must be proportionate, so the room feels balanced and easy to move through. I design with the architecture in mind, especially how natural light enters a space, because light sets the mood for everything.
I’m naturally drawn to clean silhouettes and timeless pieces that form a solid foundation. On top of that, I layer textures, materials, and details to create warmth and refinement. A muted palette often grounds the design, because it allows for flexibility over time. In bathrooms, marble often

takes center stage, while in kitchens and living spaces, I focus on classic, enduring materials enriched with texture. The goal is always a space that feels sophisticated but also inviting and livable.
How often do you introduce pops of color?
I bring in color intentionally, most often through art. Artwork adds depth, soul, and energy to a space, and can transform a neutral foundation with vibrancy. I also love using accessories, books, and especially flowers fresh arrangements instantly bring life and color to a room.
By starting with a timeless, neutral base and adding color through art and accessories, clients can keep their homes feeling fresh and dynamic without major changes.
Your philosophy is that a well-designed home is one that supports your daily rhythm and instills a sense of peace. Please explain.
For me, design goes far beyond creating something visually pleasing, it’s about shaping an environment that genuinely supports the way you live. A home should flow with your natural rhythms, not work against them. When design is tailored to your daily life, it makes even the smallest routines feel effortless and meaningful. That might mean making sure your morning ritual is supported, whether it’s enjoying coffee in bed with the right lighting and perfectly sized nightstands, or having a kitchen designed so appliances are hidden but easy to access, keeping counter-tops clear. For families, it might mean creating mudrooms or storage solutions that keep the chaos of daily life organized and contained, so the main living areas feel calm and inviting.
I also think a well-designed home creates a sense of peace by eliminating friction. When everything has a place, when the lighting feels right, when circulation is natural, you’re not fighting your environment. Instead, the house works with you. That sense of harmony allows you to relax, recharge, and be more present.
One of my favorite examples of this was a project in Calabasas. The clients had originally used their front room as a formal living room, but as their lifestyle evolved, they realized it wasn’t serving them. We transformed it into a dining room, complete with a custom-built table that could expand for entertaining. What had once been a rarely used space became the heart of their home, a place where family dinners, celebrations, and daily life could unfold naturally. That shift in design completely changed how they used their house and gave them a space that supported their rhythm.
Ultimately, a home is our backdrop for everything, rest, work, play, gathering, solitude. When it’s designed intentionally, it has the power to elevate every aspect of life. To me, true luxury isn’t just a beautiful room; it’s walking into your home and feeling instantly at ease, knowing it was designed for you, your rhythm, and the life you want to live.
How can people create a fresh look without breaking the bank?
The key is balance. Invest in quality foundation pieces, sofas, beds, dining tables, that will last. Then mix them with more affordable finds to create layers. A high-low approach
PHOTO COURTESY OF SARAH AKBAY INTERIORS
works beautifully when done thoughtfully. I actually think a space feels more interesting when it isn’t filled exclusively with expensive items. A mix of quality, mid-range, and fun, affordable pieces gives a home personality. There’s so much good design out there at every price point, and with the right eye, you can create a fresh, elevated look without overspending.
Do you believe in re-purposing?
Absolutely, I love re-purposing. Taking an existing piece, painting or reupholstering it, and turning it into something new is both fun and affordable. It adds character while extending the life of a piece. I also love incorporating vintage finds, unique accessories, old brass or stone objects, and vintage books that feel rich and layered. These details are what make a space feel soulful and personal. Re-purposing and vintage pieces add history and individuality, which I think every home needs.
What sets your firm apart from others?
I believe it’s the combination of vision and intimacy. My designs are timeless, elegant, and functional, but equally important is the personal connection I build with clients. I spend time truly understanding how they live, so their home doesn’t just look beautiful, it supports their lifestyle in meaningful ways. That level of personalization sets my work apart. My goal is never just to design a pretty space, but to create a home that elevates the quality of life for the people living in it.
Exciting projects on the horizon?
Yes! There are some wonderful projects underway. I’m in the early stages of a beautiful ground-up home in Arizona, nestled into Red Rock Mountain. It’s an incredible site, and the clients are very special, so I’m excited to see it unfold.
I also have a unique project in Florida, a ranchstyle home that will be truly spectacular. I can’t share too much yet, but it’s something I’m very inspired by. Both are projects that will allow me to explore new ideas while staying true to my design philosophy, and I can’t wait to share more in the future.

SHIVIKO KRUGER
An Immersion in Nature, Luxury and African Heritage
| BY HELÉNE RAMACKERS
In a quiet corner of South Africa’s world famous Kruger National Park sits a brand new contemporary property. The ultra luxurious Shiviko Kruger is situated overlooking the southwestern part of Kruger, with sweeping views over the surrounding bushveld and the perennial Sabie River.
With the owner’s adoration for the bush, the decision to fashion a dwelling which resonated with his vision for building something extraordinary was not taken lightly – it had to be a different offering from your normal safari lodge, and a place that would make a difference in the community. He enlisted the expertise of Bloc Architects for the architecture, and the proficiency of Akara Design Studio for the interior design, which culminated in luxury meets nature, with an African twist.
The specific site where Shiviko Kruger is positioned is a rare gem – Elephant Point is located near Kruger National Park, which has unparalleled access to wildlife and natural beauty. Guests will truly feel the raw pulse of nature, and that energy shaped the entire approach for Bloc Architects.
“The client wanted to create an ultra-luxury game lodge that offered an immersive, soul-stirring experience in the African bush,” Ryan Harborth from Bloc Architects tells me. “A retreat that feels both intimate and expansive. The emphasis was on seamless integration with the surrounding wilderness, with cutting-edge comfort, and a design narrative that celebrates African textures and tones while providing modern sophistication.”
“When we first visited the site in July 2022,” says Chayneeka Jayawardena, Creative Director and Founder of Akara Design Studio, “the client was clear about wanting something different. They didn’t want a typical lodge interior – no animal prints, no wildlife photography. The lodge already sits in the bush overlooking the park, so nature and animals are inherently part of the experience. From an interior perspective, the brief was to create unique,
fresh and timeless spaces. The client had a brilliant idea of showcasing South Africa’s cultural groups and celebrating them in their individuality.”
Each villa tells its own story - Ekasi Villa pays homage to Soweto, a township located in Johannesburg, South Africa; Shaka Villa is inspired by the Nguni tribes (Zulu, Xhosa, Swati & Ndebele); Pula Villa celebrates the Sotho and Tswana tribes, and Thobela Villa draws from Tsonga, Pedi and Venda influences. For Chayneeka, each space needed to be rooted in identity while keeping the interiors calm, which was a challenge at first – wanting to tell these cultural stories in a way that felt authentic but still current. The results speak for themselves –the interiors turned out calm and inviting, without being overly themed or busy.
My daughter and I are staying in the homey Ekasi Villa, and following a road transfer from Skukuza Airport by field guide Piet in the Shiviko Kruger branded Toyota 4x4 game viewer, we arrive at the clubhouse. We are warmly received by the hospitable staff – General managers Michael and Anica, host Phindi, butler Silence and private chef Jessica. Before taking a walk through the homestead, we are treated to a hand-washing ceremony, where Phindi pours warm water onto my hands from a jug over a golden basin. Silence is waiting at the next basin with a towelette for me to dry my hands, and barman Skhumbuso is ready with our granadilla iced tea welcome drinks.
Making our way down the sloping walkway towards the entrance of the clubhouse, a striking sculpture comes into view. Sized at a height of 13ft, 6ft in width, and 8ft in depth and crafted out of steel, ‘Twigs’ towers above the pool and the adjacent
landscape. Speaking directly to the family’s legacy, it was commissioned by the owner and created by South African artist Regardt van der Meulen. Carrying deep meaning about legacy, heritage, identity and continuity, the figure is depicted in motion, walking purposefully forward into the future.
Emerging from its back are branches and tree roots – a powerful reminder of the people and histories that have shaped us. These roots symbolize the past – the ancestors, mentors and loved ones who once walked with us and whose influence is till part of who we are. As the figure steps forward, it suggests progress and growth, but always with an awareness of what grounds us. Each step plants new roots – foundations for a living, evolving legacy that honors tradition while shaping the future. ‘Twigs’ embodies the essence of Shiviko Kruger – through the balance of forward movement and rootedness – a place that treasures heritage and culture while creating a powerful story for generations to come.
Connected to nature via its natural surroundings, the clubhouse is a great space where guests can relax in its comfortable, warm, and inviting indoor and outdoor spaces. Tying it back to the landscape, the interior team brought in hints of olive green, a tone straight from the immediate vegetation. Focusing on entertainment and recreation - there is a soundproof cinema, a gym & sauna, a pool and an upstairs bar. The pool area has different zones for guests to soak up the sun on a lounger, or recline in the shade under the canopy, where your butler will serve your drink of choice. In the evening, the sunken boma is the perfect place to take in the sunset, while regaling
the day’s happenings with family or friends. Large concrete pavers lead up to the rooftop bar, where the barman will present you with your preferred tipple, or mix the perfect cocktail for you. It’s a gathering place for sport enthusiasts who can watch the game on the big screen while seated in the lounge area, vying for their team to score. The simplicity of the bar doesn’t detract from the natural beauty of the surroundings, it was intentionally designed with clean lines to let the views be the focus.
While constructing the Villas at Shiviko Kruger, environmental sensitivity was at the core of Bloc Architect’s approach from the outset. Prior to any design work, they conducted a thorough mapping of the site’s natural contours and vegetation to ensure minimal disruption. The team prioritized
locally sourced materials and worked to integrate the architecture into the landscape rather than imposing upon it. “One of the key strategies was the use of planted roofs,” Ryan says, “which allowed the buildings to visually merge with the surrounding grasslands. This not only softened the scale of the double-story structures, but also helped regulate internal temperatures thanks to the natural insulation provided by the vegetation. Additionally, large doors slide away into wall cavities, allowing the interiors to breathe with the bush, resulting in architecture that lives in harmony with its environment, rather than competing with it.”
Keeping the interior canvas clean and in line with the architecture, light grey tones were chosen by Akara Design Studio to tie in with the concrete feature walls that run through-
out the lodge. Using a pandomo effect in the en-suite bathrooms, it added a beautiful sense of movement and consistency, while certain feature walls were finished with textured paint to bring in extra depth. Striking tiles with natural patterns were placed in the bathrooms, and engineered quartz stone finishes were used for the vanities to add a sense of class and tranquility.
Being accommodated in Ekasi Villa, it feels like stepping back into the culture, with the first sight being that of the Orlando Towers, an iconic Soweto landmark, as a hanging custom chain piece in the front entrance. There are many references to Sowetan characteristics, with my daughter staying in the ‘soccer room’ and my room named ‘music room’. Specially commissioned artworks adorn the walls –vinyl records and their covers from the music
that was born out of Soweto, adding a historic feel to the space.
The subtle use of technology is an advantage to guests staying at Shiviko Kruger – open the curtains with a touch of a button, or when you need to navigate how to switch off the bathroom light when you’re already snug in your bed, the ‘All Off’ switch is in the panel of your nightstand. It’s so understated that it doesn’t disrupt the serenity of the surroundings. Smart systems manage energy and water usage, and the integration of home automation responds to the time of day for lighting, temperature and shading. All of this is tucked behind a very natural aesthetic — it’s luxury you feel, not see.
The wonderful fragrance of freshly baked goodies fill the Villa, coupled with the rich aroma of coffee. Chef Jessica has started
cooking our breakfast, and butler Silence is at hand to serve it to us in the downstairs dining room. With Shiviko Kruger’s ethos that each guest crafts their own itinerary, the freedom of doing things at your own pace is priceless. My daughter and I are distracted by the sound of a bird serenading at the side of our Villa. Upon closer inspection, it’s a female scarlet-chested sunbird. She is drinking the nectar from a Paintbrush Lily, clearly enjoying the sweet taste.
“We also encourage guests to explore the magic beyond Kruger National Park,” Michael and Anica disclose. “The wildlife is magnificent in the park, coupled with the magic of misty sunrises. Going beyond the norm, Shiviko Kruger transports guests in the comfort of our very own air conditioned Mercedes V-Class to someplace different. The Panora-
ma Route is a unique offering with dramatic landscapes, waterfalls, and a varied take on the usual safari. Safaris in Kruger are iconic, but to be able to experience this incredible area outside of the park will never disappoint.”
Sitting out on our veranda, I realize one hardly has to leave the luxury of the lodge – to my right, a waterbuck is grazing, and to my left, a male scarlet-chested sunbird is perched on a flower. Not too far in the distance, a kudu is walking in the grass, feeding on the foliage. Which goes to show, Shiviko Kruger is the perfect place to savor all the luxuries nature has to offer.

We asked Chayneeka Jayawardena, Creative Director and Founder of Akara Design Studio to assist Upscale Living magazine readers in creating the comfortable lounge at Ekasi Villa for their own homes.
Whenheritage craftsmanship collides with unapologetic style, the result is something golfers won’t soon forget.
On August 28, 2025, Cleveland Golf and SWAG Golf unveiled the Cleveland Golf x SWAG RTZ Wedge—a limited-edition release that redefines what it means to play with swagger on the course.
This marks a historic first for both brands: Cleveland Golf, long admired for its tour-proven wedges, has opened its design platform to an outside partner, while SWAG steps into new territory with its debut collaboration on custom wedges. The result is a collection that feels fresh, daring, and designed for a new generation of players who want equipment that reflects not just their game—but their personality.
A COLLABORATION THAT BREAKS TRADITION
For years, Cleveland Golf has set the benchmark in short-game performance, while SWAG built a cult following through bold aesthetics and limited-edition drops. By combining forces, the two brands are answering a clear demand from younger players: golf gear that performs as well as it expresses individuality.
“Today’s golfers want gear that’s an extension of who they are, not just what they play,” says Chris Kircher, Vice President of Marketing at Cleveland Golf. “When you find a partner who gets it, that’s when

things get exciting.”
The Cleveland Golf x SWAG RTZ Wedge is more than equipment—it’s a statement piece.
SIX SKINS, ONE ATTITUDE
Each wedge is offered in six distinct designs, dubbed “skins,” all featuring SWAG’s unmistakable Mount Rushmore crew in shades. These bold graphics sit against Cleveland’s sleek Black Satin finish with metallic gold paint fill—turning every club into both a conversation starter and a performance tool. In a clever twist, each design corresponds to a U.S. currency denomination—$1, $5, $10, $20, $50, and $100—making the wedge feel like a literal stack of cash in your hands. Whether you add it to your bag or display it proudly, the RTZ wedge is as collectible as it is playable.
BUILT WITH PREMIUM COMPONENTS
Of course, bold design is only half the story. The RTZ wedge is engineered to perform at the highest level. It features: True Temper Dynamic Gold Tour Issue S400 shaft, Golf Pride MCC Black grip, Custom black-andgold ferrule, Lofts and grinds ranging from 50° to 60° (MID).
As Sean Ferrell, Vice President of Marketing at SWAG, puts it: “Cleveland delivers the tour-proven wedge, and we add the personality. It’s a perfect blend of performance and style—built to play, designed to turn heads.”
LIMITED TO 1,550 UNITS WORLDWIDE
Exclusivity is part of the appeal. Only 1,550 wedges will be released globally, making this collaboration one of the most coveted drops in golf this year. Available through SWAG’s website, Cleveland Golf’s site, and select retailers including Golf Galaxy, PGA TOUR Superstore, and Club Champion, the wedges are expected to sell out quickly. The price? A fittingly playful $222.22—a
nod to SWAG’s penchant for bold, unexpected details.
WHY IT MATTERS
This collaboration isn’t just about a limited-edition release; it’s a signal of where golf culture is heading. For a sport deeply rooted in tradition, the Cleveland x SWAG RTZ Wedge demonstrates that performance and creativity no longer live in separate worlds. Younger golfers—many inspired by sneaker culture and the energy of limited drops—are demanding gear that reflects style, personality, and exclusivity.
For Cleveland Golf, the partnership proves its willingness to evolve while maintaining performance credibility. For SWAG, it’s a milestone moment—its first collaboration, and one that cements its place as a brand shaping the future of golf culture.
FINAL THOUGHTS
The Cleveland Golf x SWAG RTZ Wedge is more than just a club—it’s a collectible work of art with the DNA of tour-proven performance. By blending Cleveland’s craftsmanship with SWAG’s rebellious aesthetic, this collaboration hits a sweet spot rarely seen in golf equipment.
Whether it’s swinging out of a greenside bunker or sitting proudly in your display case, the RTZ Wedge is built to play hard and look good doing it.
Available now, but only for those fast enough to secure one—because in true SWAG fashion, once it’s gone, it’s gone. For more information, visit swag.golf or Cleveland Golf.

CHICHELE PRESIDENTIAL
| BY HEL É NE RAMACKERS
The former personal getaway for the late Kenneth Kaunda, Zambia’s first President, has undergone the most astounding transformation, putting it firmly in the ultra-luxury safari lodge category.
Having stayed at my fair share of safari lodges over the years, I’m not often at a loss for words. Arriving at Chichele Presidential on a Saturday afternoon, words fail me as the feeling of stepping back in Zambian history, coupled with the overwhelming sense of nostalgia is quite emotional. Collected at Mfuwe International airport by Lodge manager Fred, it’s like seeing an old friend again as I met him during my stay at Puku Ridge in 2023. Driving through South Luangwa National Park, we spot wildlife along the way and in just more than 60 minutes, I arrive at Chichele Presidential to song and dance by the hospitable staff.
Lodge anchor Mirriam is at hand to show me to my table for brunch which is set up overlooking the croquet lawns and the beautiful views. She tells me that the buffalo love coming to this piece of greenery for a feed as it probably tastes very nice. Butler Jacob serves some water in the pure crystal Chichele Presidential glasses and presents today’s menu, which consists of ciabatta rolls, eggs benedict, mezze of the day, Chichele Café bream fishcakes and ices of the day. I opt for the lamb kebabs with chimichurri and shoestring fries, deliciously prepared by sous chef Elijah and his team and vanilla bean ice cream for dessert.
Before sitting down to eat, Mirriam accompanies me around the main area where there is a winter and summer lounge, with the latter having framed photographs of Kenneth Kaunda, paying homage to this much loved and respected head of state. Jacob is busy in the bar area whipping up a decaf latte for me and across from where he is crafting the perfect beverage is the boma where barbecues are made. On the opposite side, guests can enjoy meals in the formal dining room, where a life-size oil on canvas painting of Kenneth Kaunda has been placed alongside the piano, which evidences his love for music. In the one corner, two brown leather chairs have been cordoned off, another nod to Kenneth Kaunda as these were his favorite seats to recline in, which are on long-term loan by the Kaunda family as a gesture of goodwill. I see someone walking towards me - it’s Michel who is the General Manager for both Puku Ridge and Chichele Presidential. Our paths have crossed on various occasions through the years at lodges where he used to work. Seeing a familiar face makes the stay even more special, and Michel joins me on safari and for dinner one evening, paving the way for an experience that would be a memorable one Chichele Presidential joined the Chiawa Safaris portfolio in April 2025, complementing Old Mondoro, Chiawa Camp and Puku Ridge perfectly. Chiawa Safaris owners Grant and Lynsey Cumings worked hand in hand with the owners and the design and architect team to develop Chichele into the impressive product it is today. “We are elated with the result of this ambitious project that has been seven years in the making,” Grant and Lynsey say. “The vision and commitment of Chichele Safaris combined with expertise, passion and the spirit of cooperation in all aspects has culminated into something really extraordinary. We are humbled that the Kaunda Family feel we have honored Dr Kaunda appro-
priately, and we as Chiawa Safaris endeavor to uphold the history and esteem that is tangible at Chichele Presidential.”
Tasked with the new lodge was South African hospitality design firm Fox Browne Creative, with owners Debra Fox and Chris Browne heading up the project. “The brief from our client was to re-imagine Chichele Presidential as a contemporary luxury safari destination while honoring its legacy as Zambia’s only Presidential Lodge,” Debra and Chris tell me. “The lodge needed to retain its historical spirit while offering a modern, refined safari experience. The client emphasized preserving the lodge’s rich history while introducing bold, contemporary elements. The new owners wanted to keep as much of the original lodge’s spirit as possible.”
Situated in Zambia’s South Luangwa National Park, Chichele Presidential is set at the top of a hill with sweeping views of the valley where you might see large herds of buffaloes in the distance or encounter some on the way to or from your Vista suite as the camp is not fenced, so wildlife can appear at any given moment. Remaining respectful to the environment, Fox Browne let the consideration for the landscape guide every decision by reusing original building platforms and current foundations of the entire main guest areas to minimize impact. The architecture, done by Fox Browne Creative in partnership with Jack Alexander, was carefully shaped to sit within the contours of the hilltop, rather than dominate with locally sourced materials used wherever possible, thus avoiding unnecessary new build by working within the lodge’s existing footprint.
I am staying in Vista Suite number 7, which is a short walk from the main area. Guests can also make use of the golf cart, and your housekeeper (mine is Clement) will collect or drop you at a pre-arranged time. With only ten Vista suites, the sense of exclusivity is very real and as Mirriam unlocks the large black metal front door, I quietly gasp, hoping no-one has noticed. Procuring and producing as much as possible with regional artisans, Fox Browne reused and repurposed whatever furnishings they could from the old lodge, both for environmental reasons and to maintain respect for the property’s heritage.
“The palette for the interiors was inspired by Zambia itself,” Deb-
ra and Chris disclose. “Chichele means salt in the local Chewa language, so we used off-whites drawn from salt, rich ebony tones from the charred timber site, and copper accents given Zambia’s rich copper industry. The clay color was motivated by the earth and the deep hue of the soil in the Luangwa valley. A country well-known for their craft of weaving, we employed a number of Zambian artisans who produced woven elements such as carpets, furniture panels, textiles, bespoke light fittings incorporating natural textures and mid-century details to reflect a refined contemporary safari aesthetic.”
My suite has all the creature comforts I could possibly want, and then some. To my left, there is an entrance hall with two pairs of gumboots should I need my housekeeper to clean my shoes, a bag if I want to pop my jacket or camera into it, a net for catching frogs that might have gotten lost (there was one - they are harmless and super cute), and two yoga mats. Walking into the suite space, to my right there is a bar area with Nespresso machine and milk frother, a variety of teas, beverages and snacks. On the left hand side is the lounge and bedroom, which is an incredibly light and airy space comprising of a couch where you can diarize what you’ve seen and heard on safari in the leather-bound Sights and Sounds book or sit back and relax while paging through Timeless – Images from the Luangwa Valley by Patrick Bentley. Behind the couch is a map of South Luangwa National Park and there is a writing desk with chair should you wish to pen something. The piece de resistance is undoubtedly the bedroom, with super soft white bedding and a dreamy mosquito net which envelops the super King-sized bed at night. Positioned in the middle of the pillows, a specially made cushion with a leopard embroidered on it in black takes pride of place.
Beyond the bar is the most exquisite bathroom, with a shower, freestanding bath, double vanities and a flush loo. The details in the bathroom are eye-catching – the black and white drawing behind the bath, a set of twelve watercolor paintings of birds endemic to South Luangwa framed on the wall where the loo is, and the lights above the bath. This is not all! Unlocking the door to the outside deck, there is an alfresco shower, two loungers, an umbrella, a pool, a table with chairs and another seating area. Slide the stacking doors open to enjoy the very best of Africa at Chichele Presidential, while being nurtured in nature.
Succeeding a spread of delectable treats at High Tea, I’m delighted to learn that Lams will be my guide as he also drove me on safari when I stayed at Puku Ridge in 2023. He is joined by spotter Ackson on our afternoon safari, who assists in identifying tracks and finding wildlife. We had hardly left the lodge when Lams gets notified that there is a leopard in a tree. As we approach the sighting, she vacates her vantage point and scurries into the bushes. All is not lost as we find three different leopards on our drive! Back at Chichele Presidential, it’s time for dinner, with shared starters and my main course of choice being slow roasted pulled lamb shank with soft polenta, zucchini, baby carrots, lemon parsley gremolata and microgreens. Dessert is the yummy vanilla crème caramel with crispy sesame phyllo. Retiring
for the night, I indulge in a cleansing shower with the fragrant Terres d’Afrique products before climbing into my very comfortable bed.
Following a great night’s sleep, pre-game drive breakfast is served in the dining area, with freshly baked pastries, granola, yogurt and fresh seasonal fruit. Heading out on safari, we encounter zebra drinking water from a source not too far from the lodge, waterbuck grazing, buffalo feeding and we find four leopards again. It’s clear why South Luangwa National Park is referred to as The Valley of the leopard. A lovely coffee stop has been set up in the bush, with refreshments and snacks. Driving back to the lodge, Lams has to stop for a family of elephants crossing the road as they are feeding off marula fruit and the little one seems really intrigued by these round pods which he can pick up with his trunk. Brunch is served overlooking the plains, and today I’m dining on a tasty gourmet burger
with fries. The day has heated up enough to take a dip in my pool, subsequent to which High Tea is enjoyed, followed by the afternoon safari. A big herd of buffalo is out on the plains, and we find a relaxed female leopard after dark.
Safaris in South Luangwa National Park are truly bucket list stuff, and seeing different prides of lions – the Mfuwe pride and the Chichele pride are what draws visitors to the park. The lion dynamics are fascinating and sitting at a safe and respectful distance from them is a photographer’s dream. With no small cubs in the pride, the sub-adults are playful, sometimes much to the annoyance of the adults.
A species only found in Zambia’s South Luangwa National Park is the statuesque Thornicroft’s Giraffe. Seeing them out in the open feeding on ebony trees or spine combretum is magical, especially when there are youngsters about. Their coats are different to other giraffe,
with a unique pattern of large irregular shaped brown or black patches separated by white or yellow bands that make them stand out.
Frequenting the plains are herds of zebra, and not only are they gorgeous, they are very photogenic. Their black and white stripes are like a human’s fingerprint, so they are all different with variations in patterns. To see one in the golden morning light in prime condition is fantastic, especially when he’s calm and appears to ‘pose’ for the camera. After spending a few nights at Chichele Presidential, I’m reminded of what it’s like to be truly cared for, and no effort is spared to make you feel like part of the family. The reinvention of this spectacular property is bound to become a favorite escape in Zambia, connecting guests deeply to the extraordinary landscape of the South Luangwa valley, melding history, culture and nature.

AIRLINK’S EMBRAER E195-E2
Elevating Your Travel Experience with its new addition
| BY HELÉNE RAMACKERS
Inthe 33 years since its inception, Airlink started from humble beginnings to being Southern Africa’s premier leading full-service airline today. Little did retired CEO and Managing Director Rodger Foster know that his vision would culminate in an airline so extraordinary, it has grown in leaps and bounds with an expanding fleet serving the most incredible countries in Southern Africa.
Finalizing a lease agreement with Azorra that will see the Johannesburg-headquartered airline acquire 10 new Embraer E195-E2, Airlink further elevates the travel experience with these fuel-saving twin-engine passenger aircraft. Supplying the newly-built aircraft is Fort Lauderdale-based lease, finance and asset management firm Azorra, further augmenting Airlink’s current 68-strong fleet.
The sleek and sophisticated Embraers have formed part of the Airlink fleet since 2001. With spacious interiors in a two-by-two cabin layout, passengers can be assured that they have room to maneuver in the absence of a middle seat. The largest aircraft in the E-Jet E-2 family, the E195 E-2 has been designed to maximize returns and efficiency
on high-frequency routes. With its highest-aspect ratio wings, 4th generation full fly-by-wire, combined with other aerodynamic improvements, the E195-E2 achieves -29% lower fuel consumption compared to the previous generation E-jets.
Deliveries of the 10 E195-E2s from Embraer’s facilities in Brazil, will begin later this year and be completed in 2027. The new aircraft, which will seat up to 136 passengers in a two-by-two cabin layout, will provide Airlink with additional capacity to enhance its competitiveness on high-density routes and their additional range will create opportunities to open new routes to serve more destinations across sub-Sahara Africa. Airlink CEO, de Villiers Engelbrecht, says: “It is an exciting and daunting moment for Airlink. Exciting because it heralds the next phase of Airlink’s development and growth as the leading regional airline in Southern Africa and now possibly beyond. Daunting, as there is a lot to do in the weeks ahead before the first aircraft enters service, hopefully in December this year, but I have no doubt that the Airlink team will deliver, as they always do.”
John Evans, CEO at Azorra, says: “This is an
exciting step forward in our partnership with Airlink. The addition of the E195-E2 to their fleet highlights our shared commitment to operational efficiency, sustainable growth, and increased capacity and service. We’re proud to work alongside Embraer and Pratt & Whitney to bring next-generation aircraft to Airlink, supporting enhanced connectivity across Africa.”
Arjan Meijer, President and CEO Embraer Commercial Aviation, says: “We are proud to deepen our long-standing partnership with Airlink as it takes this next step into the future with the E195-E2. This aircraft is the most efficient single-aisle jet in its class and perfectly suited to support Airlink’s ambitious growth plans across Southern Africa. We look forward to seeing the E2 in Airlink’s livery, delivering unmatched performance, comfort, and sustainability.”
With its expansive route network of more than 45 destinations in 15 African countries, and St Helena Island, Airlink will further cement their reputation of being the best regional airline in Southern Africa. Enjoying The Freedom Of the African Skies has just become even more appealing, and is done with class and panache the Airlink way.

CARLISLE BAY
ANTIGUA, CARIBBEAN
Antigua’s premier resort, Carlisle Bay, has launched a multi-million-dollar renovation project, with all phases expected to be completed by November 2027. A five-star resort and proud member of The Leading Hotels of the World, Carlisle Bay will unveil the first phase of its transformation this year. The full evolution encompassing guest suites, public areas, dining venues, and enhancements to its signature spa, will unfold over the next three years, aligned with the resort’s annual seasonal closure periods.
Leading this project is acclaimed London based designer Miminat Shodeinde of Miminat Designs. Honoring Antigua’s rich cultural heritage and natural beauty, the team merged the resort’s essence with a refreshed, modern design that embraces its central concept of laid-back luxury. Shodeinde’s design style centers itself
around respecting context and the diversity of influences and inspiration. This has informed her vision of Caribbean excellence to utilize bespoke furniture, locally sourced artwork, and a carefully curated palette of color and tactile materials that reflect the island’s stunning beaches, calm waters, and lush, untouched rainforests.
Each area of the resort is designed with a unique narrative that contributes to a cohesive ambiance throughout while staying true to the resort’s authentic spirit. The first phase of the renovation will focus on 55% of the resort’s 87 spacious suites, with a full refurbishment of the Ocean, Bay, and Garden Suites—all located directly on the bay. These suites will undergo renovations during the resort’s annual closure period and will be ready to welcome guests when the resort reopens in October 2025.
Designed to capture the golden warmth of the Caribbean sun paired with timeless elegance, the Garden, Ocean, and Bay Suites will reflect a new chapter for the resort. “I loved learning about the region’s traditions and heritage, which became central to our design concept,” says Shodeinde.
“We aimed to balance modernity with respect for local customs, preserving traditional pitched roofs and verandas while incorporating handcarved furniture, intricate textiles, and locally sourced artwork. Collaborating with artisans allowed us to create unique pieces that reflect Antigua’s vibrant creative scene. It was rewarding to connect with the community and produce distinctive art for each suite. Alongside the island’s beauty, the incredible people and staff truly bring the destination to life.”

VISTA OSTUNI
PUGLIA, ITALY
Set within a meticulously restored 14th-century stone palazzo in the heart of Puglia’s iconic White City, and open to guests all year round, Vista Ostuni features 28 elegant, spacious rooms and suites that boast a refined expression of Apulian hospitality in one of Italy’s most captivating regions.
Originally built as a convent and later converted into a tobacco-processing factory, the historic palazzo has been brought back to life through a sensitive and visionary restoration by renowned architect Roberto Murgia of Milan’s RMA Studio. More than 6,000 square meters of historic interiors have been preserved and re-imagined – from its grand entrance and lofty ceilings to an unexpected cloister bathed in light from a glass ceiling above.
The culinary experience, led by Michelin-starred chef Andrea Berton, is thoughtfully curated to celebrate Puglia’s
rich culinary traditions and exceptional local flavors. Berton al Vista, the signature fine dining restaurant, showcases the region’s high quality locally sourced ingredients while Bianca Bistrot offers a lively, all-day garden-pool setting, serving breakfast through to aperitivo and dinner.
Guests can retire to the tranquil Chiostro Bar or head to the scenic Infinity rooftop bar, where a lush hanging garden of plants and aromatic herbs effuses Mediterranean scents. Both spaces are designed for relaxed conversation and cocktails, set against the inspiring backdrop of the Apulian countryside.
The three-hectare garden at Vista Ostuni, designed by landscape architect Erik Dhont, is a celebration of the Apulian Mediterranean landscape, where native and ornamental plants blend seamlessly. Guests arrive through a courtyard framed by ancient
olive and carob trees, palms, and citrus, centered around a traditional fountain.
Secluded green corners with dry-stone walls and organic benches offer a quiet retreat, while flowering slopes and wild herbs thrive naturally.
The private suite gardens provide shaded intimacy, and a belvedere terrace opens onto sweeping Ocean views. More than a single garden, this is a living, breathing expression of the Apulian countryside.
“Ostuni represents our boldest and most meaningful project to date,” said Luigi Passera, CEO of Vista. “Vista was founded on the belief that luxury can thrive beyond Italy’s typical destinations. We are proud to introduce global travelers to a lesser-known gem, with world-class hospitality.”
Willard InterContinental Washington, D.C., part of IHG Hotels & Resorts’ luxury and lifestyle portfolio, is pleased to unveil a re-imagined collection of 335 restored accommodations, including 69 suites and 14 distinctive signature suites. Led by Parker-Torres Design, the project draws inspiration from the hotel’s rich legacy as a backdrop to several pivotal moments in American history.
A landmark since 1818, this restoration honors the legacy of Willard InterContinental while introducing a refreshed and immersive guest experience where history comes alive. The restored signature suites pay tribute to historic figures, several of whom are pioneering women whose legacies continue to inspire. Many of these individuals were not only guests but also witnessed or participated in defining moments within the hotel that helped shape the nation’s
cultural narrative. Each signature suite reflects the spirit of its namesake, with design elements and custom murals inspired by their stories and contributions. Drawing on the idea of “Theatrical Potential,” a phrase coined by Mark Twain to describe the hotel’s ambiance in the early 1900s, the enhanced aesthetic emphasizes drama, depth, and individuality.
Guests will find crystal chandeliers, intricate crown moldings, jewel tones, elegant draperies, hardwood flooring, and custom wool rugs preserving the hotel’s historic character, all complemented by refined modern accents. These include commissioned abstract paintings, custom furnishings that juxtapose timeless, stately pieces, and updated technology.
Guest rooms have been thoughtfully re-imagined through a pied-à-terre concept, offering luxurious retreats that
retain the comfort and familiarity of a private residence in the heart of Washington, D.C. Architectural details and elevated finishes are paired with a fresh neutral palette accented by soft blue tones, creating a serene and welcoming atmosphere.
“Willard InterContinental Washington, D.C. is an American institution that has stood at the forefront of history for more than 200 years. It is our hope that this thoughtful, years-long restoration pays homage to the extraordinary individuals who have shaped the nation, whose spirits echo through our halls and continue to shape the modern-day guest experience,” said Markus Platzer, General Manager of Willard InterContinental Washington, D.C. “We look forward to delivering extraordinary experiences for the next 200 years and beyond.”

THE ALLURE OF THE ALGARVE
| BY ADAM JACOT DE BONOID
“Viajou na maionese” is a Portuguese saying for “to travel in the mayonnaise” and means to live in a dream world. Indeed imagine stretches of golden beach for miles on end. Imagine having an affinity with nature on this the very last south-western extremity of Europe called the Algarve (Arabic for the ‘western part’ of Al-Andalus). Though not technically part of the Mediterranean, it shares the terracotta-tiled roofs, olive trees, figs and ceramics, the fishermen and their nets, the palms and the pines. We think of the Algarve for her year-round mild-to-hot weather, her secluded lagoon bays, her golf courses, her Arabic traits and her boats bobbing in their marinas.
Portugal has caught up hugely in my lifetime from her 3rd world qualities of the 1970s. Some things however defy the test of time. Elderly ladies still decorate the churches. Their other halves meanwhile sit on shaded benches in open squares, beneath lovely lilac Jacaranda trees, putting the world to rights or playing dominos on wobbly tables in cafes. Beyond the beaches the Algarve is also a cradle of creativity. Artisans craft ceramics adorned with traditional motifs, while hand-woven baskets and lace made in quiet villages reflect skills passed down through generations. I loved the ornate baroque church facades. Here, at the church of St Anthony in Lagos, I found ‘talha dourada’ (gilded woodcarving) which is used to make altars shine with gold. This particular one was outstanding: a masterpiece by the master himself: Custodio Mezquita.
How do you lose 600 calories in 30 minutes while lying down? Sounded too good to me so I booked myself into Longevity Health and Wellness Hotel (www.longevityalvor.com/en). Perched and secluded it overlooks the bay of Alvor, a village with boutique shops well worth a rummage. The hotel has a lovely organic shape: sloping, curvaceous and reminiscent of New York’s Guggenheim Museum or Rome’s Castel St Angelo while its progressive vibe felt part-Scandinavian, part-Swiss. They have opened another in Cascais outside Lisbon.
Longevity Alvor is for adults only, perfect for solo travelers as well as couples, and chiefly attracts Brits and Germans. It’s a bright and fresh space that’s simple to navigate. My room (one of 70 whose rates start at €116) was modern and minimalist and offered the lovely outdoors escape of a balcony. Its calm cluttered simplicity was conducive to the purpose of my visit. I loved Pure Café on the rooftop. It’s informal and its advantageous height afforded a perfect panoramic view of the sunset, the sea, Alvor and her neighboring fields. It all felt very zen, spacious and airy through its floor-to-ceiling windows like being on some mammoth luxurious yacht with her endless decking. The small but fairly-priced portions were good for my longevity as I tucked into my colorful salad of prawns, quinoa, bean sprouts and red cabbage.
Soon I was experiencing an Iyashi Dôme. It’s a Japanese concept, where I was to sweat out my ‘heavy metals’ from the infra-red of the treatment. Though warm in my cocoon it wasn’t remotely claustrophobic but extremely relaxing. This health and wellness hotel offers a comprehensive range of treatments including osteopathy and nutritional consultations. But within this super smart, super clean set-up I felt an engagingly easy and breezy vibe. There’s a yoga dome and a stateof-the-art spa whose treatments are unquestionably first rate. Longevity’s mantra is “Achieve a healthier and happier you whilst relaxing in the warmth of the Portuguese sunshine”. It did, for me, exactly what it declared.
I took a five-minute drive down to the beach at Praia da Torralta. What a fabulously long stretch of a sandy strand it was! In and amongst the meadows of wild flowers blowing in the breeze I found myself at Sea Deck (www.pestana.com/en/hotel/pestana-alvor-south-beach), a beach restaurant whose exterior is all about the sea and the decking from which also to watch the sun’s descent. Within the floor-to-ceiling glass and beneath the airy fans a waiter in his signature red and white T-shirt served me a generous helping from Chef Carlos’s kitchen. Sometimes you can’t beat grilled fish and salad! How wonderful then to walk it off on the six-kilometer walkway along the nature reserve and back along the beach.
Food in the Algarve is not merely sustenance, it’s a storytelling medium. The Atlantic is the region’s generous pantry: offering octopus, sardines, clams and sea bass that find their way into dishes like cataplana de marisco, a rich seafood stew traditionally cooked in a clam-shaped copper pot. Further inland, the flavors shift. The air smells of wild herbs, grilled meats, and piri-piri chicken sizzling over open flames. Almonds, figs, and caro: ingredients rooted in Moorish tradition, appear in desserts like doce fino and bolo de alfarroba and charmed me with their rustic sweetness. My favorite course is sea bass, filleted and simply grilled with those incomparably red-ripe tomatoes and crunchy cucumbers. It needs a drizzle of fruity olive oil from the Alentejo, local sea salt and a crisp white Douro wine then to be utterly magical. There you have it: the culinary soul of Portugal, laid bare on a plate, in all its gloriously delicious simplicity.
I really relished my next stay at PortoBay Falesia (www.portobay.com/en). The location is Olhos d’Água, meaning ‘eyes of water’. It’s famous for being “where the sea weeps” as strangely freshwater not saltwater bubbles up out of the sand at the sea end of the rocks. It looks almost as though the sea itself has eyes streaming with tears. It’s a 4* hotel and soon to have sister hotel Portobay Blue Ocean as her neighbor. Yes I could have just stretched out on the sun lounger
but preferred an adventure. The landscaped grounds had plenty of room with their palms, exotic plants and banana fronds. There were lots of romantic nooks and crannies; spectacular vantage points with impressive views. Such a dramatic drop down to the Atlantic and the many miles of coastline several hundred feet below. Cezanne would have been in his element with the zigzagged, striated landscape of the ochre-colored sandstone cliffs, the bluest of sea and skies and the skudding seagulls monitoring all from above. Not to mention the lush, sharp green pines presenting their proud, erect leaves so static and spread like the Seren-geti; so full of vibrancy and aroma.
The 310 rooms and suites (from E214 a night) have neutral tones with wicker lampshades and come with balconies and sheets that were fabulously cool to touch. All was bountiful and abundant in the spacious foyer with its gorgeous, gigantic gourds leading out onto a floral garden and mown lawn. Outside both birdsong and a breeze wafted over my spa treatment conducted by masseuse Rogeria Mariana whose magic touch I highly recommend. I then dined at Madeira Restaurant whose abundant buffet supper meant I could arrive in my own time to suit my own rhythm. Also at Il Basilico, the hotel’s Italian restaurant, I sat outside, at a lovely spot under the pine tree of the cliffs and sea watching the fishing boats punctuating the horizon out late at night. Alfresco dining and so romantic.
The next day I descended the wooden steps to the 5 mile-long sandy Falésia Beach to have lunch at Maré at Pine Cliffs Resort (www.pinecliffs.com/en/dining/ mare-at-pine-cliffs/). It offered me all I could want from a seaside restaurant. Such a gem of a place with its ambiance and sea breeze as it presides over the performing waves. Children made sandcastles before me and covered their parents in the sand. Maré offers a diverse menu featuring seafood and fresh fish along with vibrant salads, wraps and light dishes. The helpings are generous and fairly-priced and I loved it so much I went back the next day. Who doesn’t love a long, lazy summer lunch.
One of the Algarve’s greatest joys is its embrace of slow living. There’s an unspoken philosophy here that life is to be savored, not rushed. The Algarve doesn’t just welcome me; it absorbs me. It teaches me to listen to the wind and to live more fully in the moment. In a world that often races forward, the Algarve gently pulls me back: to the sea, to the earth and to the joy of simply being. I must go back whenever but soon.

DUNIA BARU
Blending Adventure and Exclusivity
| BY HEL É NE RAMACKERS
Dunia Baru, a seven-cabin, 51-meter luxury superyacht, offers an unparalleled blend of adventure and exclusivity, taking guests on private journeys through Indonesia’s remote and breathtaking archipelagos.
Whether exploring the turquoise waters of Raja Ampat, encountering Komodo dragons in their natural habitat, or diving with hammerheads, whale sharks and manta rays in the vibrant coral reefs of the Coral Triangle, every voyage is tailored for an unforgettable experience. With expert guides, bespoke itineraries, and world-class service, guests are immersed in the region’s rich marine life, untouched landscapes, and unique cultural heritage—all whilst enjoying the utmost comfort and privacy on board.
Dunia Baru, meaning ‘New World’ in Indonesian, is inspired by the traditional phinisi, an indigenous Indonesian sailing vessel that has been a symbol of the country›s seafaring history for centuries. Phinisis, now UNESCO recognized, were traditionally used to carry commodities along the Spice Routes, with Dunia Baru
designed to preserve this historic craftsmanship while seamlessly blending modern maritime innovations.
To bring this vision to life, American naval architect Michael Kasten led the yacht’s design, while the renowned Konjo Boat Builders of Ara, South Sulawesi, spent over eight years constructing the vessel. The Konjo shipwrights are masters of their craft, building phinisis by eye without detailed blueprints. Dunia Baru is primarily built from Ulin, an exceptionally durable and rare ironwood native to Indonesia. This slow-growing wood was once widely used in boatbuilding but is now endangered, making Dunia Baru one of the last vessels to be constructed using this material.
Every detail has been meticulously crafted, from the hand-carved ironwood steering wheel to the custom-made hinges created by master craftsman Jamaluddin, who remains part of the yacht’s crew today. Outfitted with sails from Thailand, rigging from the United Kingdom, and an American Boat and Yacht Council-compliant engine, Dunia Baru set sail
in 2014, embodying beauty and seaworthiness as it navigates the remote South Asian waters.
Sailing through the Coral Triangle, guests are immersed in one of the world’s greatest and largely untouched marine wilderness, home to nearly 2,000 species of fish and over 600 species of coral. In these waters, manta rays, sea turtles and hammerhead sharks flourish, with marine experts and dive instructors on board to help guests discover this extraordinary ecosystem. Snorkeling alongside whale sharks in Cenderawasih Bay, spotting dolphins from the deck, and witnessing Komodo dragons in their natural habitat are just a few of the unforgettable experiences incorporated into Dunia Baru’s bespoke itineraries.
For thrill seekers, jet skis, wake-boarding, and a custom-built water-slide provide endless excitement, while paddle-boarding and kayaking offer a more tranquil way to explore hidden lagoons and mangrove forests. Personalized experiences curated by the crew such as beach-side picnics and nighttime crocodile watching further elevate these unforgettable voyages.
While Dunia Baru can be chartered for longer journeys to the likes of Thailand and Myanmar, Dunia Baru spends most of her time sailing through the calm waters of Indonesia and Papua New Guinea. Bespoke itineraries, for a minimum of five nights, are created for each voyage, prioritizing wildlife, cultural communities or diving sites depending on the preferences of those onboard. From May to September, the yacht travels through the southern islands of Indonesia, including Komodo National Park, Alor and Flores. Between October and November, Dunia Baru continues east, exploring South Maluku, the Banda Spice Islands and the Forgotten Islands. When seasons begin to change in November, Dunia Baru heads northeast towards Papua New Guinea where it remains for the next six months, cruising through Raja Ampat, Cendrawasih Bay and Kaimana.
As the only BKI Classed (the only national classification agency in Indonesia) wooden vessel operating in Indonesian waters, Dunia Baru sits firmly in a class of her own. Carrying up to fourteen guests, the expansive vessel boasts seven spacious en-suite cabins, an open-plan lounge and dining area, and wrap around teakwood decks with panoramic ocean views. A private chef prepares gourmet meals using fresh, locally sourced ingredients, with menus tailored to guests› preferences, including fresh seafood, Indonesian specialties, and international flavors. The Teppanyaki grill offers unique interactive dining experiences, while the open-air cinema provides entertainment under the stars. A dedicated crew of eighteen, many of whom have been on board since inception, include chefs, yoga instructors, diving experts, massage therapists and nannies, ensuring seamless service, personalized itineraries, and expert guidance throughout the journey. Dunia Baru actively supports marine conservation efforts, partners with local education programs and is passionate provider of humanitarian aid. Over the years, Dunia Baru has delivered emergency aid after the 2018 Lombok earthquake, helped remote villages in Raja Ampat gain access to healthcare, established a learning center for the local Sauwandarek community and continues to support Black Coral Research in their ocean biodiversity studies. Dunia Baru actively invites guests to join these initiatives, whether it be contributing to existing projects, learning about marine conservation or engaging with local villages during their charters. https://www.duniabaru.com/
HEESEN’S ORION
Flawless Performance
| BY HEL É NE RAMACKERS
Heesen Yachts is delighted to announce the delivery of the 50-meter hybrid superyacht YN 20750, now christened ORION. This milestone marks the Dutch shipyard’s third delivery in 2025, highlighting a busy and successful year thus far. Fresh from intensive sea trials in the North Sea, ORION exceeded every expectation, showcasing flawless performance and reaffirming Heesen’s reputation for precision engineering.
ORION represents Heesen’s commitment to innovation and environmental responsibility within the superyacht industry. As the third vessel in the shipyard’s advanced 50-meter Fast Displacement Hull Form (FDHF) aluminum series equipped with hybrid propulsion, she represents the next generation of responsible luxury. With silent cruising up to 10 knots, reduced fuel consumption, and lower emissions, ORION resets the standard for eco-conscious yachting. ORION is the result of a close col-
laboration between Heesen, the owner’s team and Cristiano Gatto, who created a bespoke selection of loose furniture to tailor the yacht to match the owners vision and lifestyle.
The yacht’s sleek, contemporary interior was penned by Cristiano Gatto and his team who, alongside Heesen’s engineers and craftspeople, created the perfect luxurious canvas for owners to express their creativity. The interior showcases unparalleled Dutch quality craftsmanship, featuring over 37 different materials, including exquisite Italian marble, high-gloss woods, and woven leather.
“The delivery of ORION is a moment of great pride for everyone at Heesen,” comments Ruud van der Stroom. “This yacht perfectly encapsulates our DNA: precision Dutch engineering, innovative hybrid technology, and the ability to deliver a high-quality product through dedicated collaboration with owners, designers and our team of experts.”
At her core, ORION is a technological pow-
erhouse. Constructed from lightweight aluminum and the ultra-efficient Fast Displacement Hull Form devised by van Oossanen and engineered by Heesen’s in-house team of engineers, she is powered by two MTU 12V 2000 M61 (IMO III) engines. This enables a top speed of 16.3 knots and boasts an impressive transatlantic range of 3,750 nautical miles at 12 knots, consuming a mere 98 liters per hour excluding hotel load. In hybrid mode at 10 knots, this drops to just 45 liters per hour.
With a shallow draft of just 2.15 meters, ORION is perfectly equipped to navigate diverse cruising grounds, from the crystal-clear waters of the Bahamas to the Mediterranean.
Peter van der Zanden, Head of Engineering at Heesen Yachts, states, “Our expertise in lightweight aluminum construction, combined with the efficiency of the Fast Displacement Hull Form and the advanced hybrid propulsion system make ORION an exceptional yacht. This synergy doesn’t just result in
reduced environmental impact and enhanced longevity for the yacht’s components; it delivers an unparalleled experience for the owners – quiet, efficient, and versatile cruising, allowing them to explore diverse destinations with ease and comfort. ORION is a perfect example of Heesen’s commitment to marrying performance, efficiency, and luxury.”
The exterior design, a hallmark of Frank Laupman of Omega Architects, features a striking vertical bow and expansive floor-to-ceiling windows that flood the interiors with natural light. Inside, the 499 GT interior volume accommodates twelve guests in six staterooms, including
a main deck owner’s stateroom and a full-beam VIP suite. “The delivery of ORION marks an incredibly proud milestone, made possible through outstanding collaboration between the owner, the team at Ocean Independence, and Heesen,” Anton Foord, broker for ORION. “As we look ahead, it’s exciting to envision the enjoyment she will bring to her owner and guests. And entering the charter market this summer, she offers an exceptional experience defined by performance, elegance, and technical innovation.”
The delivery of ORION reinforces Heesen’s position at the forefront of the superyacht market, demonstrating the shipyard’s capability to
build complex, high-performance hybrid yachts with exceptional quality and design, delivered on schedule. ORION will join Ocean Independence’s charter fleet and will be available for select clients to enjoy the luxury of a silent cruise in an unparalleled Northern European-quality superyacht.
Sbe Introduces a Mediterranean-Japanese Fusion Destination, Envisioned by Rockwell Group and Led by World-Class Chefs Dani García and Katsuya Uechi.
Sam Nazarian’s sbe recently debuted two celebrated dining experiences, Casa Dani and Katsuya to the heart of Westfield Century City. A partnership steeped in innovation and artistry, the expansive 17,000-square-foot venue unites Mediterranean soul with Japanese precision in a design-forward space crafted by the acclaimed David Rockwell and Rockwell Group.
Helmed by three-Michelin-starred Chef Dani García and a newly imagined Katsuya Century City by sushi maestro Chef Katsuya Uechi, the expansive 17,000-square-foot venue unites Mediterranean soul with Japanese precision in a design-forward space. Together, the two concepts offer guests a journey from Southern Spain to Tokyo.
MEDITERRANEAN WARMTH AT CASA DANI
Translating to “Dani’s House,” Casa Dani offers more than just a meal, it is an invitation into the world, and home, of Chef Dani García. This debut adds a new flavor to the West Coast’s coastal sensibilities while channeling the relaxed sophistication.
Evoking the stylish neighborhoods of Andalu-
sia , the space is anchored by an open kitchen and a curved green tile fireplace. The dining room blends neutral-toned leather banquettes, handcrafted ceramics, lush greenery and a terrace with panoramic views.
García’s cuisine is comforting yet elevated, traditional yet bold. From classic paellas to inventive dishes like oxtail brioche with bull sauce, truffled onion tortilla, and tomato tartare, each plate is an expression of personal storytelling. A curated seafood shelf showcases branzino, snapper, and chilled shellfish, underscoring the restaurant’s deep connection to the sea. For a quietly luxurious close to an unforgettable meal, the burnt Basque cheesecake with earthy goat’s cheese is a must.
A NEW ERA FOR KATSUYA
Just steps away, the iconic Katsuya Century City reintroduces itself with a modernist sensibility and a fresh culinary direction. This marks the fourth Los Angeles outpost for Chef Katsuya Uechi, whose influence on Japanese-Californian cuisine has spanned nearly two decades. The newly designed space is minimalist yet bold, with a natural wood post-and-beam ceiling, ribbed columns, and sculptural metal
pendant lights that lend a sense of drama and elegance. A monochrome palette keeps the focus on the artistry of the food. Katsuya’s new menu reaffirms its reputation as a sushi destination of the highest order. Highlights include toro tartare with Oscietra caviar, A5 wagyu tataki with truffle snow, and time-honored favorites like spicy tuna on crispy rice, baked crab hand rolls, and the ever-iconic yellowtail jalapeño.
A GARDEN BETWEEN WORLDS
For those caught between Mediterranean and Japanese cravings, the open-air Garden offers the best of both. Overlooking Santa Monica Boulevard, the shared terrace features an interwoven menu of small bites and cocktails from both kitchens. A perfect setting for breezy afternoons, golden-hour gatherings, or unforgettable nights.

ASCEND PRIME STEAK +SUSHI
| BY TRACY ELLEN BEARD
After interviewing Chef Brandon Muehl—culinary director and creative force behind Ascend Prime Steak & Sushi for nearly six years—my husband Steve and I stayed for dinner. I had heard so much about the high-volume precision and artful blending of steakhouse staples with sushi elegance, all perched on the 31st floor with sweeping views of Mount Rainier and Puget Sound. Now, I had the pleasure of tasting that vision come to life.
We started with cocktails—each one a piece of mixology theater. I sipped the 1921 cocktail, a jewel-toned elixir of Empress gin, blood orange, honey rose syrup, lemon, and cardamom. It was floral and citrusy, with a whisper of spice at the finish. Steve opted for the Washington, a smooth, brooding blend of Woodinville port
cask whiskey, jammy vermouth, bourbon cherry syrup, and antique bitters.
The amuse-bouche arrived next: a foie gras bavarois, crowned with a nasturtium leaf and airy foam. Silky, rich, and delicately floral, it set the tone for the layers of surprise still to come.
Our first course, the Spicy Tuna & Prosciutto Roll, was a brilliant interplay of textures and flavors. The spicy mix packed heat from shichimi togarashi—Japan’s version of a seven-spice blend—balanced by creamy avocado and tomato relish. Delicate sheets of prosciutto, bottarga (cured fish roe), and bubu arare topped the roll, and tiny toasted rice crackers added a satisfying crunch. Each bite produced a perfect harmony of spicy, savory, and unexpectedly cohesive.
For the second course, we cleansed our palates
with the Baby Beet Salad, a visually stunning arrangement of intense, purple-toned beets, shiso sorbet (a refreshing Japanese mint), horseradish espuma, pickled shallots, and pistachio in various forms—crumble and praline. Compressed green apple strips and a tuile added crunch and brightness. It was playful yet refined.
Next came what our server called their “most composed dish”—Seared Sonoma Foie Gras. It was an architectural marvel: tiny toasted walnut waffles layered with seared foie, caramelized Asian pear, and dollops of yuzu meringue. Beneath it all, black sesame paint and a drizzle of huckleberry red wine gastrique, along with maple bourbon foie gras jus, added depth and tang. Paired with a glass of D’Oliveira Boal 2001 Madeira, the sweet-savory richness
danced with every sip. The Madeira, aged for over two decades and bottled just last year, had a delicious complexity that lingered long after the foie was gone.
As the lights dimmed and the city glittered below us, our entrées arrived accompanied by a generous pour of Marsannay “La Charme Aux Prêtres” Domaine Bruno Clair 2022—a refined Burgundy with elegant spice and a silky texture from old vines. The wine was young, but structured, with just enough oak to complement the depth of our dishes.
The Alder + Fruit Wood Grilled King Salmon was a perfectly cooked fillet, topped with black garlic and celery root purées, finished with mint pesto, pickled red onion, and a shichimi togarashi-charred lemon. It was earthy, herbaceous, and kissed with smoke.
The Filet Mignon, wet-aged for 28 days, was
spectacular, but we also shared an eight-ounce New York A5 Wagyu, which truly melted like butter on the tongue.
For sides, we could not resist the Mashed Yukon and Purple Sweet Potato Duo—a subtly sweet and savory blend that was like eating a creamy cloud. The Crab Mac and Cheese with Edamame added richness and a touch of green brightness to balance.
Then came dessert—two, actually. First, the Magic Mushroom: a whimsical tribute to the Pacific Northwest and a nod to Super Mario Bros. The cap was a cherry Rainier mousse, and the stem was a white chocolate bourbon. Around it, espresso and matcha crumbles, dark chocolate base, mocha pot de crème, and candied honey meringue “mushrooms” brought the fantasy to life.
The Skyfall was equally dazzling. Goat cheese
panna cotta disks, white chocolate, shiso pastry cream, and macerated berries, paired with miso chocolate sauce, created a multilayered flavor profile—tangy, earthy, sweet, and umami all at once.
By the end of the evening, we felt utterly content. Chef Muehl’s ability to execute a high-volume, fine-dining menu with such exacting detail is nothing short of astonishing. The staff was knowledgeable and gracious, the wine pairings intentional, and the flavors imaginative yet grounded.
Dining at Ascend Prime is not just about the food or the view; it is about the experience, where precision meets creativity, and every plate reflects passion and discipline.
The Regal Martini Spritz
Cocktail
As team partner of the Scuderia Ferrari HP Formula One Team, Chivas Regal knows a thing or two about style and performance, and as the whisky house says, “Accelerating into a new era in sports culture, our multi–year partnership celebrates shared legacies of craft, innovation and luxury. An icon of whisky meets an icon of racing.”
Enter The Regal Martini Spritz. Fruity, short and strong, it takes the classic Peach Martini and gives it a regal twist. Built on the depth of Chivas Regal 18, lifted with peach liqueur, and refreshed with a scoop of lemon sorbet, this version gets its sparkle from a champagne top up. The result is peachy, chilled, and just indulgent enough, the ultimate way to start a light in with style.
Ingredients
• 15 ml Chivas Regal 18
• 15 ml Peach Liqueur
• 1 scoop Lemon Sorbet
• Top with Champagne
Method
1.Add Chivas Regal 18, peach liqueur, and a scoop of lemon sorbet into a chilled martini glass.
2.Stir gently to let the sorbet soften and mingle with the spirits.
3.Top with champagne for a regal spritz finish.
4.Serve immediately with the sorbet melting into the fizz.
Chivas Regal 18 brings rich depth with notes of dark chocolate and dried fruit while peach liqueur keeps things bright and juicy. Lemon sorbet adds a refreshing, slightly tart twist that is smoothed out once the champagne hits – it’s a perfect tipple for when someone wants the glamour of a champagne martini with a fun and fruity sidekick.
CHEF LUKE KOLPIN
Shaping a Culinary Legacy at The Lodge at St. Edward Park
FINDING BALANCE BEYOND PERFECTION
Stepping into the role of Executive Chef at Cedar + Elm inside The Lodge at St. Edward Park was both a leap and a necessity for Chef Luke Kolpin. After years in Michelin-starred kitchens, including a formative period at Copenhagen’s world-renowned Noma, Kolpin knew he wanted to build something different—a program rooted in excellence, but also balance.
“This is my first executive chef role, and it’s quite an undertaking,” Kolpin explains. “We’re running breakfast, lunch, dinner, brunch, banquets—seven days a week. It’s a lodge, so the scope is broad. But that’s exactly why I wanted it. After years in kitchens where perfection was the only standard, I needed to find a healthier relationship with food and leadership. This role allows me to build a team, put trust in others, and create a program that can run even when I’m not in the room.”
A NEW PHILOSOPHY OF LEADERSHIP
Kolpin admits that this kind of transition has been both challenging and deeply rewarding. “I’ve learned a lot about myself here. At Noma and places like that, you can become obsessive. If I wanted a future where I could open my own place and have a life outside the kitchen, I needed to learn how to lead differently. It’s about building a team, not trying to do everything yourself. Kitchens are like relationships—you rely on one another, you communicate, and you grow together.”
COLLABORATION AT THE CORE
Kolpin’s philosophy is evident in how he structures collaboration throughout the culinary program at The Lodge at St. Edward Park. When Kolpin first arrived, much of the dinner staff had left, so he built the menu gradually, based on the strengths and interests of the cooks who remained. “I ask for input where it makes sense. For example, I’ll talk with the protein cooks about what they want to work with, or I’ll give direction to Rachel, one of our chefs who’s more pastry-driven, and let her run with it. Recently, she developed a dessert featuring the first Washington cherries of the season. That kind of initiative makes the menu stronger.”
Still, Kolpin strikes a balance between freedom and structure. “I can’t just hand the whole menu over to the team, or it turns into chaos. However, when people feel a sense of ownership over a dish or technique, they become more invested in it. Sometimes, the team might contribute ten percent, while in other months, the contribution might be higher. It depends on what the program needs.”
MANAGING SCALE WITHOUT LOSING SOUL
The program itself is large-scale, often stretching his team’s capacity. On a recent Saturday, they plated for nearly 200 banquet guests across multiple rooms, while also serving 50 diners in the restaurant and attending to bar guests. “It takes a lot of staff to pull that off,” he says, “but that’s the reality of a lodge like this—there’s always more going on than just the dining room.”
FROM SEATTLE KITCHENS TO COPENHAGEN’S NOMA Kolpin’s journey to this point was anything but conventional. He did not start cooking until he was nineteen. Encouraged by a best friend, he enrolled at Seattle Central’s culinary program—a choice he admits was practical as much as passionate. “It wasn’t a fancy school, but it was accessible. And honestly, a week before, cooking hadn’t even crossed my mind.”
What followed was a steady climb through Seattle kitchens—McCormick & Schmick’s, a year at Canlis, and helping to open a small bistro— before Kolpin made the leap to Europe. “I got a copy of the Noma cookbook, and it was a revelation. They were using ingredients from the Northwest, but in ways I’d never seen before. I sent an email to the head chef, applied for an internship, and when I was accepted, I told everyone it was a job trial. I needed that pressure. I quit my job, moved to Copenhagen, and pushed myself as hard as I could.”
LESSONS FROM THE WORLD’S BEST
The gamble paid off. At Noma, Kolpin immersed himself in one of the world’s most influential kitchens, and the lessons he carried back were not just about technique but also about philosophy. “I tell my cooks it’s
okay to be inspired by others, but give homage. Don’t just copy—transform it, make it your own, and acknowledge where it came from. Most great music, art, and even food borrow from somewhere. What matters is honesty and joy in the process.”
NO ROMANTIC CULINARY BEGINNING
Unlike many chefs, Kolpin does not have a romantic childhood story of cooking alongside grandparents or mastering family recipes. “I mostly made boxed macaroni and cheese,” he laughs. “But I’d get bored with it and start experimenting—adding sausage or trying new things my mom picked up at the store. That was probably my earliest version of creativity in the kitchen.”
A MOTHER’S CHALLENGE AND A MEATLOAF LEGACY
Kolpin admits that he was a picky eater until his mother issued a challenge when he was about ten years old. “She told me, ‘From now on, you have to try everything I put in front of you. If you don’t like it, I’ll never make it again.’ I thought I’d be eating mac and cheese and pizza for life. But the joke was on me—I liked everything.” That moment, paired with the persistence of a mother who worked long hours as a charge nurse and still cooked every night, opened his palate and taught him the value of curiosity.
When pressed about a favorite childhood dish, Kolpin does not hesitate. “My mom’s meatloaf. My sisters hated it, which may have made me love it even more. I always wanted the crispy end pieces. She made it for birthdays, and after I came back from Copenhagen, she skipped her own anniversary dinner to make meatloaf for me. That’s still the most special thing she cooks.”
FIVE INGREDIENTS, INFINITE POSSIBILITIES
As for what he would do with just five ingredients today, Kolpin’s answer reflects both his training and his philosophy. “I’d choose mushrooms and seaweed—they’re sustainable, versatile, and full of flavor. Then, a fishlike salmon or steelhead. The last two would depend on the day, but those three—mushrooms, seaweed, and fish—are where I’d start.”
COOKING FOR FLAVOR, NOT PERFECTION
At Cedar + Elm and throughout the culinary program at St. Edward in the Park, every dish celebrates bold flavors, seasonal abundance, and the joy of sharing food. Here, it’s less about chasing perfection and more about crafting meals that satisfy, inspire, and linger on the palate long after the last bite. The kitchen thrives on collaboration, creativity, and a passion for taste—ensuring that every dining experience is as memorable as it is delicious.

Motorcycles have always been about freedom: freedom from the shackles of gravity, wind resistance, distance, and time. Conceived in the nineteenth century, the motorcycle was born into a world where the fastest way a human could travel alone was on the back of another living creature. On a motorcycle, there is just the rider and a bare-boned power plant blaring in violent combustion, streaking down a dusty road with only the redolent scents of burning petroleum and the wind on one’s face. There’s an undeniable fascination with motorcycles: Their speed, design, legendary riders, and coolness factor are all part of the magnetism. Motorcycles: The Impossible Collection is a compendium of the 100 most exceptional bikes of the twentieth and early twenty-first centuries, from the rare to the renowned. | Published by Assouline.
