MEET JANET HALPER

Janet Halper was born in Detroit, MI. It was there that she met her husband, Allen. When they married they moved to Oak Park where they created many memories. Janet was a school teacher for most of her life. She primarily taught English and Math. She loves writing and poetry and is very good at it! Janet is most proud of her husband, family, and her teaching career. She says, “I’m very lucky to have lived (and am still living!) such a good life.” She introduces herself to the community!

“Hello, hello, hello!"

My name is Janet Halper and my husband, Allen, and I have been living here at All Seasons for a very short time. It was a very difficult decision for us to sell our condo, pack up our belongings, leave our warm and friendly neighborhood of 28 years, but we had no choice. I had developed an incurable muscle disease and Allen was tending to fall more often. So we made the move to All Seasons.

It could not have been to a better place. The broad smiles and the friendly greetings we have received since Day One have been major reasons for our easy and smooth settling-in. Thank you, all! A few years ago, the Friends of the West Bloomfield Library asked me to write a column every few months highlighting their volunteers. It was a pleasure to do, and I met many interesting folks. While in the process of meeting Alan, our Executive Director, I mentioned how special it was for me to meet so many warm and interesting folks who contributed their time and energy to our local library. After living here at All Seasons for just four months, I have felt that same warmth and congeniality that I did interviewing the Library volunteers. So, if any residents here would like to sit down with me and share their histories, it would be my pleasure to continue to highlight the interesting stories that make up who we are (you get to read and edit the draft!). Sincerely, Janet Halper, Room 250
