Ambaari, the double-decker hop-on and hop-off bus service launched by the Karnataka State Tourism Development Corporation (KSTDC), is a great hit among the crowd who are watching the illuminated streets seated on the vehicle’s roof top.

There is a huge demand for trips beyond 6 pm as the city lights, as part of Dasara festival, are switched on from 7 pm to 10.30 pm (or 11 pm) daily. All those who dread to drive during nights amidst bumper-to-bumper traffic on city roads to see the illumination and those who dare not to walk on pothole-filled roads and on broken footpaths prefer a hassle-free ride in Ambaari.

As per a notice displayed at the KSTDC Office on JLB Road, children above five years are charged full fare, and tickets can be booked online at https://www.kstdc.co/. The evening trips are scheduled at 6:30 pm, 7:45 pm, 9 pm, and 10 pm.

Observations:

1. Significant Price Increase: The steep price hike during the Dasara festival reflects the high demand for city tours to view the illuminated streets. The rooftop ride has seen an increase from Rs. 250 to Rs. 600, marking a substantial 140% rise, while the first-level seats have also gone up to Rs. 350.

2. Festival Influence:The increase in fares is clearly linked to the popularity of the festival, as many people are eager to see the city’s special illumination, making it a premium experience during this period.

3. Hassle-Free Option:Many people are likely opting for this bus ride as a convenient alternative to driving in heavy traffic, making it an appealing choice despite the increased cost.

4. Accessibility for Families:Charging full fare for children above five may make the experience more
