The Community Centre is a place where sea products (produced by local community) can be commercialized. The centre is a hub for members of fisherman’s association to meet and organized events and activities that can improve fishing industry via modern technology and commercialize their products. The centre shall be provided with commercial facilities (retail outlets), cafe, community hall, workshop and public event space (exhibition or exposition). The emphasis is on local community activities, entrepreneurship and commercialization of sea products.
The project called upon solving a future issue which might not has happened yet and thus “flexibility” and “adaptability” should be the main theme of the housing design. However, the design should include basic and fundamental spaces that makes a house, a home. Students must also take into consideration the authority requirements and guidelines and provide whatever necessary to adhere to the local development needs.

Dubbed as the ‘Novus Vita’, this project is an extension of the ‘World Tour Urban Street Innovation Project’, except in a larger scale with more urban connectivity. Majoring in innovative program, this facility will provide hands on experience of the companies’ innovative product with simulations zone and workshops for the public. The spaces provide in this facility play a bifold character of indoor and outdoor interrelation, hence promoting an innovative urban pocket experience for the crowd. Its architectural expression is an anecdote - an innovative narration of the companies at glance, unlike any others innovative centre.
This bungalow project comprises two assignments, AAR605 Digital Drawing and AAR610 Working Drawing. It serves as the students’ initial exposure to computer-aided design (CAD) tools instead of traditional manual drawing methods. The project aims to assess their proficiency and experience in utilizing modern design software like Autodesk AutoCAD, SketchUp, and Lumion while designing a two-storey residential unit. Through this undertaking, students can showcase their abilities in embracing new technologies and applying them creatively in architectural design.

Fisherman’s Community Centre
Underappreciation of Nature is one of the significant losses of humankind. This case is due to Nature being one of the catalysts for the livability of human beings since the Dawn of Time. Nature provides oxygen via photosynthesis, food for consumption; cure for ailments and diseases; serene views and many more. Mother Nature is unappreciated in a way that we tend to ignore the benefits and the effect of destroying Mother Nature. For example, deforestation is inevitable in the name of development.
In the case of our site at Mangrove Port, Pasir Penambang, Kuala Selangor, there are lots of wild herbs and shrubs growing adjacent to the wetlands of the mangrove. For example, ‘Jeruju Hitam’ and ‘Pecah Kaca’. However, only a small portion of the local community utilizes the herbs to cure some ailments and to be given to some visitors that request the herbs. Other than that, the potential of the site is not fully tapped.

The Story
The fisherman’s community in Kuala Selangor has produced many sea products through domestic small- medium industry or commonly known as ‘cottage industry’ and these products are supported by both Lembaga Kemajuan Ikan Malaysia (LKIM) under the Ministry of Agriculture & Food Industries and Persatuan Nelayan Kebangsaan (NEKMAT).
The post Pandemic scenario has seen the increase of order made via online and delivery is done by FoodPanda, GrabFood rider or other methods of similar nature. By having the centre, the products can be produced at one station, thus the collection for delivery is made much more efficient and consume less time.

Alam Community Centre focuses on three main approaches toward the community which are Alleviate Economy, Appreciate Nature and Activate Community. Alleviate Economy allow the community of Pasir Penambang to flourish with the introduction of new businesses such as Herb Market and Herb Processing. On top of that, Appreciate Nature allows the local community and tourists to explore deeper into the mangrove wetlands and gain more knowledge about the benefits of the wild herbs growing around the site. Other than that, Activate Community may improve the local community’s physical and mental wellbeing via activities that can be held at Astaka Alam.

Construction
Astaka Alam Fisherman’s Community Centre is built using mostly steel framing systems. This is due to the flexibility and adaptablility of steel material to be suited with the industriallook design. This building also uses reinforced concrete slab foundation because of the natural condition of the soil type which is marshy (wetlands).

Living in the Future?
Thesustainability of human life in the future is under threat as our consumption of resources outpaces the planet’s capacity for regeneration. The reliance on non-renewable energy sources for electricity generation contributes to the escalating problem of greenhouse gas emissions, intensifying the impact of climate change. Furthermore, industrial waste is contaminating and degrading water sources, posing a grave risk to both human well-being and ecological balance. All of these are the risk factors that could cause unhealthy environment and food and water scarcity.
The ageing community and disconnected neighborhoods significantly impact the quality of life. Retired individuals and abandoned elderly parents face housing and financial challenges. Modern society’s lack of personal connections due to social media hinders community support. Addressing these issues is crucial to foster a vibrant and inclusive neighborhood, enhancing the well-being of individuals of all ages.

Site Synthesis
1. The building configuration is predetermined based on the site axis.
2. The back of the house area is repurposed to accommodate a parking lot and vehicular circulation. Meanwhile, the main building has been shifted closer to the proposed green area.
3. The site’s frontage, which is the junction of Persiaran Perusahaan, will feature a green area. Additionally, the use of a funnel structure enhances the building’s sense of hierarchy and makes it a prominent landmark.
4. To promote natural ventilation, openings are strategically placed at the North and South sides to capture prevailing winds year-round. Furthermore, the installation of a green roof contributes to achieving thermal comfort within the buildings.

The Ground Floor
In the diagram on the left side, the ground level is designated for mixed-use commercial spaces rather than residential units. These commercial areas cater to the community’s needs and include facilities such as a kindergarten, laundromat, and convenience store. The decision to keep residential units off the ground level is due to the site’s susceptibility to flash floods, ensuring the safety and functionality of the space in such conditions.
The Upper Levels (1st-5th floor)
The high-rise housing units are distributed across the upper levels. Spanning from the second floor to the fifth floor, a linking bridge serves as a connection between the north and south wings of the building. These connecting bridges are designed to offer community spaces, including a community dining area, a pool, a gymnasium, and a playground for children. These communal facilities aim to foster a sense of community and provide residents with shared spaces for socializing, relaxation, and recreational activities.
The Verticality
The section below illustrates the building’s layout and residents’ movements. Each wing is equipped with a central set of stairs and elevators to facilitate easy access to different levels. Moreover, at the heart of the building, there is a prominent funnel structure that acts as both a landmark and a rainwater collector, contributing to the building’s sustainable strategy. This design not only adds an aesthetic focal point but also enhances the building’s eco-friendly features by harnessing rainwater for various purposes, further promoting sustainable practices within the community.
