ABOUT THE PROJECT: The concept behind this project was to provide a space that will mainly cater to the well being of animals that have made the western ghats their home. The project deals with three components; - RESEARCH COMPONENT : Valparai is an area with very little data and studies done on the endemic species and endangered species namely the Nilgiri tahr , Lion-tailed Macaque , Purple frog & Horn bill.

This component will deal with collection of data and coming up with methods to reduce tensions between the animals and humans.

- VETERINARY CENTRE : A space to help rehabilitate animals that become victim to the animal human conflict.

- TOURISM : A controlled tourist environment that creates on opportunity to learn about animals and also creates an awareness around the importance of conservation and need for funding .

WARP - 340 PROVIDING A SOLUTION FOR THE HOUSING CRISIS IN LONDON , UK BEE BREEDERS COMPETITION - RESTOCK , 2020 LONDON , UNITED KINGDOM TEAM

Due to the high demand of housing , real estate has boomed beyond the reach of the layman. This project will help by increasing the amount of housing available through fully utilizing the available land.

WHAT REALLY MAKES IT A HOME? It ’s the traditional green front yard that one can enjoy with a cup of tea, watching the autumn leaves fall. It ’s the traditional backyard that hosts numerous barbecue parties, leaving one with the aromas of smoked steak and veggies.

For the proposed design, this architectural style was abstracted in a way in which the key elements that make up an English house were retained. The key elements were chosen with respect to the usage and experience of the space along with carefully picked wood textures.

STRUCTURAL SYSTEM

ARRIVING AT THE FORM The rotation of 7.5 degrees happens at every two floors . The depth of each unit was kept common(10m) for structural stability.

The rigid structure of segregation based on unit typologies is avoided. Different units are put together for diversity.

The floor plate is divided by the circulation shaft. The 4 typologies are placed together and mirrored along the circulation shaft as the mirroring axis.

By doing this, the front yards and backyards are alternated along this axis hence mitigating monotony seen in long straight corridors.

The 3BHK and 4BHK typologies extend vertically into the immediate floor plate above.

Hence, making way for the other two typologies on the next level.

The Terrace gardens are made to address the public space needs of the residents of Warp 340 whilst also taking advantage of the iconic skyline of London.

Access to the building is provided through means of staircases and elevators unique to each one of the towers which meet each other at different levels of the public spaces.

Pockets of green along pathways which are created to function as community spaces in the middle of the building. This space is flushed with vegetation and mimics the function of the park at the lower floor at a more personal scale.

These unique elements of English housing have been given importance to which provide ample semi-private spaces for each unit, something that is seldom considered during vertical housing establishments.

THE SOCIAL SPACE CREATING A SPACE FOR SOCIAL INTERACTIONS FOR THE USERS OF JAYANAGAR , THE OLDER SEGMENT OF BANGALORE. 7TH SEMESTER - ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN STUDIO BANGALORE , INDIA The goal of this project was to create a space for the people of Jayanagar , for social interactions as well as a commercial hub to provide some income for the general areas upkeep. The design brief was to create a theatre space , a co-working space , a cafeteria and a commercial space .

ARRIVING AT THE PROJECT REQUIREMENTS The site , shown in indigo , is located in a densely populated area in the south west portion of Bangalore. The majority of buildings around the vicinity of the site are residential (shown in yellow) and a few along the main road are commercial (shown in red).

From the urban study conducted in the area , it was concluded a space for interactions, as well as a leisure point would do well in such a place as the amount of open spaces for the public is diminishing in a quick rate. Having estimated our user-group from door-to-door surveys , conducted by groups , we arrived at a viable area statement that would work in this area .

DESIGN CONCEPT: As the main objective of the building was to bring people together , an active building front was created for pedestrians to interact with the building facade . An alternate pathway taking pedestrians through the buildings , intrigue them, and thereby take them through the various spaces of the building. Mutual Shading was used to shade the public , unbuilt spaces. Monotone materials were used to create a minimalistic approach to the design , as well as to create visual intrigue to a viewer , as it is different from it ’s context in this aspect

SARANAM HOUSING A LOW-INCOME HOUSING SOLUTION FOR THE WORKING PEOPLE OF CHICKPETTE , BANGALORE 5TH SEMESTER - ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN STUDIO BANGALORE , INDIA The goal for this particular project was to create a low-income housing building to cater to the people of Chickpete,Bangalore. The site selected was at the heart of the area , and the challenge given to us was , to maximize the amount of area that could be built as per the bye-laws of the area. The area statements for the project were as per the following: -Type -1 (4 people ) - 20 Square metres -Type -2 (4 people ) - 35 Square metres -Type -3 (4 people ) - 45 Square metres -Type -4 (4 people ) - 60 Square metres Given the spatial constraints for the typologies that were given to us , the challenges that i needed to overcome were the social aspects of interaction between the different economic groups , as well as the services required for the spaces.

The site , shown in red in the diagram above was in the proximity to a very crowded junction in Bangalore. From the data collected during our surveys , we chose this site as it was close to the markets , one of the major places our target audience use to go ,to make a living . taking this as a clue , we surveyed the site , to conclude that it will fit into place for our project.

With the traffic data we came to find that the majority of traffic of the pedestrians was through foot , and I used that in my design.

Circulation in the proposed project

DESIGN CONCEPT: The main design principle followed throughout the proposed project was to create visual connections and physical paths to make the space feel more open , while still being efficient in space utilized. A lot of common spaces , like courtyards and plazas have been created to help the user group to take part in communal activities.

While spaces have not been labeled for a particular use , it is multi-functional based on the requirement of the user group. Porous facades help with ventilation throughout the site.

THE WEAVER’S NEST A CHAIR BASED ON THE BIO -MIMICRY OF A WEAVER BIRDS NEST 6TH SEMESTER - INTERIOR DESIGN STUDIO Bangalore , India DESIGN CONCEPT: The concept of this chair was derived after I watched a weaver bird (Ploceus philippinus) go about the intricate process of building its nest .

The cabin has a husk covering held by a steel mesh giving it support . The cabin is suspended from the ground by a steel section covered in wood.

The cabin pivots along one axis giving movement in a controlled manner .

DESIGN DEVELOPMENT: The main objective of this design was to recreate the experience of the weaver bird’s nest to the user group .This was done through suspending a cabin from a loop . This creates a sense of freedom as depicted from the nest. The cabin sways from side to side , also another enjoyable experience , imitating the swaying seen in a weaver birds nest. The material used was cross-weaved husk fibers , giving it a similar finish to whats seen in a weaver birds nest .

The design was developed by me after spending time observing the nest of a weaver bird . The structural system employed , is similar to how a weaver bird entwines twigs to reinforce the nest.

PROFESSIONAL WORK HOUSE 111 - TERRACE ( STUDIO TAAN) Design of a terrace floor of a residential building in Bangalore. The brief of the design was to create a space the clients could use as a gathering and socializing space for the plentiful soiree they hold. We decided to create a sunken slab with grass and a “wabi-sabi” design language throughout the terrace. We used a beaten metal profile on the edges to make it have a better finish. We introduced a pergola dining area for conversations and a few sun-downers.

Picking up a camera back in 2007 , for the first time , I knew it would be something I would love doing . Fast forward to the year 2021 , having won plenty of wildlife photography accolades , the camera has become an appendage of my body. Being an avid wildlife enthusiast, I have traveled far and wide to capture various fauna . Over the years , I have been able to use my love for nature in positive outcomes for my designs . I have also picked up an interest towards rendering and modeling as well as graphic art.
