Li Chun 立春 is the actual start of a year in traditional astrology.

The first day of the Solar calendar is Li Chun 立春, which is also known as “The Beginning of Spring”. It begins on the 4th or 5th February of the Gregorian calendar 阳历.

“OFFENDING THE TAI SUI” AND HOW TO AVOID IT Your birth year determines your Chinese Astrological animal sign. As the cycle of the Chinese Astrological animal system comes every twelfth year, naturally your animal sign will appear every twelve years at the age of 12, 24, 36 and so on.

When is your Astrological Year/Ben Ming Nian?

A common mistake is to calculate the first day of the Lunar New Year (for year 2017 it is on the 28th January) as the start of the traditional astrological year to determine Chinese Astrological signs because in reality, your Chinese Astrology year begins on the first day of Spring (Li Chun 立春) which lies approximately on the fourth of February.

Therefore, the Rooster year of 2017 shall begin on the first day of Spring which is on the 3rd February 2017 (the time of the first day of Spring is specifically 11.34pm). The year of the Rooster ends on the 4th of February 2018 (at the specific hour of 5.27am).

Tai Sui – what is that?
