A short piece about my wife Flora Obiageriaku Aladi

Flora and I have known each other for about 30 years and have been married for 27 of them. Throughout that time, she has consistently shown her love for others, especially her family. She is a very dependable friend, though sometimes her deep commitment to others makes her vulnerable. With her big heart, she’s always willing to help and support anyone in need.

This dedication is reflected in her support for charitable causes and her mentorship of fellow immigrant doctors aspiring to practice medicine in Canada. Even when some of those she helped turned their backs on her after obtaining their licenses, she continued to offer her support. I often encourage her not to be discouraged by such behavior, and she hasn’t let it stop her from assisting those who need her. Despite these challenges, she has been successful in her own medical practice. After all, we never know where blessings come from.

Flora was recognized by the Alberta College of Physicians for her exemplary patient care and her advocacy for the less privileged as they navigate the healthcare system.

Her name, Obiageriaku, means “born into wealth” or “born to enjoy wealth,” and she has truly lived up to that name, both in her taste for fashion and her style.

Life hasn’t always been easy for her—she lost her mother at the age of 13—but through sheer determination, she graduated from medical school while raising two kids. She’s a hard worker by any standard. Sometimes I feel guilty for putting her through those challenges, but in hindsight, I’m glad we made it.

Oby has been a very supportive wife and friend but sometimes I feel she supports the designers (LV, Versace, Chanel, Hermes etc.) more! Her dressing and events always have a touch of class and style, as you have witnessed at her 50th birthday celebration here in Miami. If she likes something, regard for value goes out the window!

A year ago, I suggested she learn to play golf. She agreed but said she needed the right clothing and gear for it. I told her she already had clothes she could wear—after all, it wasn’t a tournament. But no, she insisted she wanted golf attire from Louis Vuitton! I told her to forget it. We are yet to go for that game of golf.

Happy Birthday my dear! May God continue to protect you, bless you with good health, long life and happiness.

Enjoy the party, folks. I hope you’re all having fun in Miami!

Classy, Caring & Unstoppable

“My mom is a strong woman who refuses to take no for an answer. When she’s not caring for her patients with unmatched compassion, she’s the heart of our family, offering endless love, support, and delicious food.

She knows how to enjoy life and put a smile on our faces, but she’s also a perfectionist who strives for excellence in everything she does.

Her high standards even extend to her love for shopping—you’ll get a workout following her as she navigates the aisles, looking for something “classy” enough.

I couldn’t ask for a more amazing mom and role model. Happy 50th birthday! Here’s to many more to come.”

Elegance in Every Detail

“She’s the kind of woman who needs everything to be classy and perfect.

Whether it’s the food, flowers, or cake, it has to be Insta-worthy. If it’s not stylish, it didn’t happen.”

Happy 50th Birthday to one of the greatest creations of this century! My best friend! My forever young Arabian Barbie! You are the most beautiful, smart, hardworking, tenacious, endearing, devoted, and familyoriented person I know, though you can sometimes be very annoying and mischievous... Oby Extra (as I call her).

My darling Flora:

Cheers to the best friend a person could ask for! My only regret is not meeting you sooner so I could have annoyed you longer. I’m grateful you are in my life and wish you all the blessings life can bring. Happy birthday, bestie!

Love you loads! - Ijeoma

Mischief Maker With A Lot of Heart

“Dr. Flora Obiageri Aladi (aka Isikotegbu, Akpowa na Phone) is that rare combination of a caring big sister and a hilarious troublemaker. She’s the type who will check in on you to make sure you’re doing your best, but don’t be fooled—she’s also the one most likely to stir up some mischief just to keep things interesting.

Driven, compassionate, and a touch mischievous, she has a knack for pushing everyone to be their best, even if it means causing a little trouble along the way!”

- Ifedi Odinakaeze (aka RudeBoy na Calgary)

Rare Gem

“There are many people we meet in our lives, but only a very few will make a lasting impression on our minds and hearts. These people will care about your happiness and well-being. They will like you for who you are, and they will support you at all times. They bring joy and laughter each time you are with them. It is these rare people who will always remain important to us as true friends. You have proven yourself, time and again, to be that true friend. I am fortunate to have you as my friend.

On this day, I congratulate you and pray that God will bless you in areas you least expect. May you see many more years in good health, love, joy, and peace.”

of Enjoyment

“I have known Dr. Flora for more than 21 years, and she is the true definition of a good friend— always there to lend a hand. Not only is she stunning with her radiant smile and graceful style, but she’s also incredibly intelligent. I call her the “Minister of Enjoyment” because she knows how to take care of herself and travels to the most beautiful places in the world.

Happy birthday, Dr. Flora! Have a funfilled day.”

Superwoman

“Flora’s car hit mine, breaking my bumper, but I wasn’t upset—cars can be replaced, people can’t. That’s how we became friends. One cold winter evening, Flora left her clinic, dropped her bags in her Range Rover, and unknowingly left it in auto-drive. While grabbing groceries from my wife’s shop, she saw her car rolling towards the business complex.

The craziest part? Flora jumped in front of her Range Rover, playing superwoman, trying to stop it from crashing into the complex! Please, someone tell her never to try that again! When her superwoman powers couldn’t stop the car, she jumped out of the way just as it crashed into another car. And you guessed it—that was my car.

Everyone came outside that evening, including some of her doctors, all looking for the owner of the car. I was attending to customers while the commotion was happening. Seeing a crowd behind my car, I stepped out to investigate the pandemonium. Lo and behold, it was Flora — Herbalist and Dr. Swag—who had caused the chaos. ‘...na our people wey get am,’ said Flora when she saw it was my car.

I saw the damage and told Flora never to play superwoman with cars again, except in her medical practice. Now, I want to take revenge because I’m still upset that she never apologized—though her husband did on her behalf. Someone, tell Flora to buy me a new car!”

Simply Amazing

Flora is the most amazing person I have ever worked with. She is demure, simple, classy, and down-to-earth.

Happy 50th, Flora! You deserve nothing but the best!

Bold Adventurer

“Flora, aka Oko.com, as I fondly call her, is indeed a fierce, sweet, and annoying soul! Oh dear, I could write a whole book about you, but I guess this is not the time. Flora is that friend who will go all out for the ones she loves and protect them like a mama bear. She will literally say, ‘Who is looking for your trouble? Don’t worry, I will finish them! I will taunt them! They didn’t get the memo!’ I will, in turn, start begging her to ignore and let it go, abeg!

You cannot mention Flora without stating how hardworking, smart, and street-smart she is. I call her rouge (agbero). She is the one friend we can head out in -45°C, 20 centimeters of snow to pick up a Hermes bag without having a plan for how to get there if the car breaks down. If I dare to ask, ‘What if?’ her answer is, ‘Babe, we go figure it out, abeg.’

As delicate as she looks, she is one tough cookie! She doesn’t stop until she gets it done, including mowing down anything or anyone she perceives as an obstacle or enemy in her way. A great achiever, a dedicated wife, a doting mother, and a loyal friend.

Flowwww, this is saying a big congratulations to you on making it to this golden jubilee. Cheers to doubling the number in good health and wealth! Love you loads, my okote uwa nile! The original troublemaker, my continue… my enyo partner! My fight buddy, let’s keep rocking! You know our plans to take over that stuff, right? I am still game, babe. Love you!”
